2019-07-19I babble a bit about the Lakers and Rockets in this week’s From Distance. For more Cavaliers talk and a trip around the East, be sure to listen to the pod with Nate, Tom, and EG.
Man, summer is great… and boring.

Wizards gonna Wiz…
But Sashi is good at collecting assets which is exactly what they should be doing.
Still find it irritating that Sashi doesn’t get proper credit for the Browns’s rebuilding
He accumulated assets well. Dunno how good his draft track record was. Dorsey basically hasn’t missed yet. I am pretty high on some of the dudes he got this year too. Greedy Williams seems like a steal and may start sooner rather than later.
CAVS SHOWING INTEREST IN B MCLEMORE —-OPINIONS ? —-
Pass. Don’t think he is an nba player.
Sure… always had a soft spot for him… let him duke it out with Sauce.
He stinks, but if he’s cheap, why not. Maybe he’ll have a hot half season and can be traded for a crappy draft pick…
Pass. Another guard who cannot play D and who is too small to play the 3. Just what we need.
No!
I’d rather have thornwell at this point
I saw that he was getting looked at… definitely more interested in him too!
he simply can’t grasp NBA defense. It is a shame.
About 2 years too late, but I will take it.
YES THERE IS A BASKETBALL “GOD ” !!!!!——AM SURE EVIL IS TAKING THIS HARD / HANG IN THERE EVIL : )
Our long regional nightmare is over.

Championship pedigree!
Defensive-minded! Moving between two of the worst defensive teams in the league.
Yep, he’s the guy to turn things around for the Wizards!
A great day…for Washington!
LONGO IS STILL ON OUR STAFF……………….GOOD GOD !!………………………….” MORE BEER PLEASE ” AND PLEASE WIZARDS HIRE THIS DEFENSIVE GURU
As for the Lakers, I think their depth is pretty good:
Starters: Bradley, Green, Bron, Davis, Boogie.
Main bench: Rondo, KCP, Kuzma, McGee
Deep bench: Caruso, Cook, Daniels, THT, Dudley
Main weakness is a backup SF. They do not have one. THT is a rookie. Green can slide over. If they can land someone in the buyout market (Iggy), should be in good shape.
Depends on if Bradley, Rondo, KCP are any good. That isn’t guaranteed. They have all been not very good of late. Cousins isn’t guaranteed to be good either. They have lots of guys that are either borderline nba players or guys that used to be good, but that may be negative contributors now. They don’t have a ton of guys that are plus contributors on both sides of the ball at this point in their careers. In other words they have guys that have been “names,” at on point in their career, but who may be trash now. On paper… Read more »
I am not high at all on the Lakers. This is a very poorly constructed team again this season. They are still very light on shooting as the only player with any gravity is Green. Maybe Cook too, but he is atrocious on D. Rondo, KCP, Bradley, Cousins, even Kuzma are bad to decent, on their best days, shooters. Also, their defense is going to be bad, unless Lebron tries semi hard. Good luck with that. With the West so open and with little incentive to tank with the new lottery odds, it is not crazy at all to picture… Read more »
Yeah, agree with all of this. Lebron and AD, if healthy, will be great, almost everyone else on that roster is a big ol’ question mark. And if Lebron and AD aren’t pretty much healthy, that team may miss the playoffs. And the countdown for Kidd taking over started weeks ago.

Oh yessssssssssssssssssssssssss…
Please let this be true.
Good god. So he is still actually on our staff……
Wizards would be fools not to hire him. Even with their depleted roster, Longo’s schemes will have them in the fight for a 3 seed in the East…
That picture is hilarious.
that photoshop job might be the absolute Zenith of my career at CTB

Now they just need to sign J.R.
Good pickup. That team could always use more shooting. Gotta hope Giannis gets a jump shot soon.
Yep. Korver can play limited minutes and has great defensive cover when he does play. And can extend a bit come summer if they need shot-making. Really rooting for the Bucks or Jazz this year. Or Denver.

Any thoughts on taking a swing at Kostas Antetokounmpo? The Greek Freaks younger bros. was just waived by the Mavs. He’s 6’10 and a PF, but could be a potential low risk – high reward grab.
Good observations on the Lakers, but I still think you’re too high on them, Ben. I get the caveat ‘if healthy’, but I see that as extremely unlikely, even if we assume that Lebron at 35 will stay healthy. I don’t remember a season when AD didn’t miss a bunch of games to niggling injuries, and that team will be hot garbage if/ when Lebron or AD miss time. (Boogie, whatever…I have never liked him much even before the injuries, he’s better than Javale, anyway…) The Lakers have a bunch of name guys who are pretty much done. It’s funny… Read more »
Man, you are probably right. I rather forgot about the Jason Kidd nonsense. He is a terrible coach and will make it though for Vogel to have any authority.
Maybe I should walk it all back. haha.
I have a hard time figuring out the Lakers. I can’t shake the feeling that the roster is too thin for AD or LeBron to coast this season. Like MikeO said, if one of those two misses 20 games (that’s gotta be a 50/50 shot right?) they could find themselves on the playoff bubble. Nobody is gonna want to see them in the playoffs though. For all the criticisms (mostly earned) that the Cavs got for their LeBron rosters, the teams almost always made sense. Our GMs seemed to understand that the most effective lineup in sports is LeBron on… Read more »
If absolutely everything goes right regarding their health and them being rested enough for the playoffs, they will be right there as a top 4 contender. With LBJ at age 35, a guy like Davis who has had injuries, and possibly a thin bench, it is a pretty big if.
If cousins comes back to close to what he was, that would go a long way to taking some of the load off in the regular season. Another big if.
I predict the Cavs will eventually trade Sexton and Garland will get the keys to the franchise, or at least the starting PG position.
We’ll have to see how much Sexton improves and whether Garland is really good enough to take it. But possibly having to trade one of them was always the risk part of the gamble with taking Garland.
