Live Thread: Cavs @ Magic
2019-10-23Well this seems like a mistake.
Cavs are starting Sexton and Garland tonight in the backcourt
— Austin Carr (@MrCavalier34) October 23, 2019
As I’ve noted, Garland doesn’t seem like he’s played enough minutes to start yet, and easing up his minutes count seems to make sense for a guy who is just coming off a minutes restriction. Still, you knew it was going to happen eventually. I hope this means he’s healthy, and I hope that lasts.
Love, TT, and Cedi round out the starters for Cleveland, while Orlando will roll out Nic Vucevic, Aaron Gordon, Jonathan Isaac, Evan Fournier (don’t google that), and D.J. Augustin. I suppose if you’re going to roll out a small back-court, Augustin is a good guy to try it against, but expect Fournier to get a lot of post-ups.
On paper, the Cavs have a fighting chance in this one, as a healthy Kevin Love is this game’s most talented player. But Orlando’s depth, especially at the wing, seems problematic. Terrence Ross, Al-Farouq Aminu, Wesley Iwindu, and Khem Birch bring size off the bench at the wing, while Markelle Fultz and Michael Carter Williams are bigger guards. Add a heaping helping of sweet shooting Mo Bamba who went 9-18 from three in the preseason, and this team will give the Cleveland some problems. Taking care of the ball, rebounding, and shooting will be key for Cleveland. Nance, Love, and TT need to play with some fire in the belly.
Prediction, Cavs lose a close one when Mo Bamba blocks a shot late. 119-117, Magic, but I’m hoping for a fun one.
MORANT ALTHOUGH HAVING 14 PTS –ALSO HAD 7 T.O.’S ——-CULVER 4 PTS ——-JUST SAYING —ONLY 1 GAME
JAMES PRETTY MUCH AGREE WITH ALL THAT YOU ARE SAYING —EXCEPT I THINK GARLAND NEEDS TO START—YES THEIR WILL BE GROWING PAINS BUT AT LEAST HE WILL BE GROWING —( ONLY TIME I WOULDN’T START IS IF IT REALLY STARTS TO AFFECT HIS CONFIDENCE / HEALTH )—HEY NOBODY EXPECTS US TO WIN MORE THAN 20–25 GAMES —EVERYONE KNEW THAT WE ARE ” IN THE PROCESS ” RIGHT NOW —–BUT A HUGE YES ON MORE SHOTS FOR LOVE / MORE TIME FOR KNIGHT
I know I tend towards a homer view, and know I likely have too much hope for Cedi, but after thinking about this game again I keep coming back to the idea of using Cedi better. He missed two big open threes that hurt the Cavs comeback attempt, but those were his only real misses. His other two missed shots consisted of a blocked transition layup after a poorly timed JC pass that left him no other options and a missed 32+ foot shot at the end of the shot clock which he managed to hit rim and allow Love’s… Read more »
Another loss I saw tonight: looks like Cavs are keeping “Be The Fight”…
Hey Simmo, if I remember correctly you are out of the Cleveland area and that’s why you’d need League Pass to watch the Cavs, right?
Assuming I’m right, e-mail me at Ryanjyankee@gmail.com
I have an idea on how I might be able to help you, though I don’t want to post about it here in an open comment board.
I am hell & gone from the 216, now reside in the 08 (I’ll let you sleuth the location ha ha). I can usually find the games somewhere on the web, but reliability is typically poor and getting harder. Colour me interested and looking to subscribe to your ideas. Will msg you.

First game overreactions:
The game is too fast and athletic for Love. He is a useful piece when surrounded by good players, but is obviously not an All Star player anymore. A guy like Mo Bamba makes him look petty
Garland Offense was better than expected. Step back J looked nice. Hope his handle will allow to him manipulate Defenses and create.
Sexton is fine. 3-8 from three. Looked bigger for sure
Nance and TT were solid. Cedi played within himself
Clarkson and Porter were brutal. But who else can take those shots?
Low expectations make for easy viewing
I think for Love, Orlando’s size and athleticism is just not a good match up for him, it’s a special case since their front court is literally full of 7 footers. Pretty much agree with the rest… especially low expectations lol!!!
kendrick nunn watch.. 22min.. 20 pts.. +27.. UNDRAFTED 24 yr old rook..1st “real” game.. i guess the 40 he dropped in preseason was absolutely misleading..the dude is :showing” me.. i am waiting (and will be patient) to be shown something of note by the homeys
final stats for kendrick nunn.. 26min.. 24 pts.. +29.. not bad for a 1st nba game..
I want to be fair to you specifically Buck and admit my prediction of the Cavs winning this one was wrong. I like to believe they showed you some interesting glimpses of potential for the future in this game (between the fridgid offensive cold stretches), but at the end of the day I was still wrong and they lost. Turnabout is fair play. Honestly though, I am curious what you took away from Game One about this incarnation of the Cavs? If your answer is still “they are terrible” I can’t blame you, I asked…but I am honestly curious about… Read more »
grizzlies score 3pt in q4 with 5m left in game..that is cold
Love needs more than 10 shots and only 1 3PTA.
Knight should play over Clarkson AND Delly.
Garland should not be starting yet, though he is a better passer than Sexton right now.
Only two of our starters attempted a FT (Love & Sexton).
Porter is really, really, raw. He should not be getting anything but garbage minutes, but when you obly have 2 wings……
These wolves cannot hunt for shite.
Sexton and Garland were fine. Delly and Cedi and Clarkson were awful. Need more shots from Garland.
How can you argue Cedi was awful? He had two missed open threes and a couple of mistakes, but in the aggregate he was one of the most effective and efficient shooters/players while being only Cav with a positive +/-.
Man, the Sixers have a lot of talent, but they are so sloppy, all the time. I know it’s the first game, but it’s the same crap we’ve seen for two years. I think that, more than anything else, will bar them from the Finals.
1 GAME IN —81 MORE TO GO –( UNLESS WE MAKE PLAYOFFS —SARCASM )—–DIDN’T WATCH THE GAME / WILL WATCH REPLAY TONIGHT / TOMORROW ——DIDN’T GET BLOWN OUT / STAYED COMPETITIVE —-IS KNIGHT HURT —IF NOT WHY DIDN’T HE PLAY ——WHEN IS HENSON DUE BACK —-LOVE NEEDS MORE TOUCHES / SHOTS ……GARLAND 1ST REAL GAME IN ABOUT A YEAR / THINK HE WILL BE ALRIGHT …………ALL WE CAN HOPE IS THE YOUNG PLAYERS DEVELOP AND ALSO THE COACH AND THE PING PONG BALL FALLS IN OUR FAVOR NEXT SPRING …….. ” MORE BEER PLEASE “
Id say we got blown out – just the final score didn’t look it
hornets pj washington.. #12 in draft.. 38m.. 27 pts.. 7/11 on 3s.. now that is a manly rook performance
Wow Washington hitting 64% on 3s for the season. Zion hasn’t even made a bucket. These GMs are clowns. Thanks for the update Cols.
not :”cols” bro.. i am not a troll.. born n bread in CLE.. just sharing my thoughts.. why so sensitive, bro.. was that not a “manly” 1st game rook performance? you would prefer what you just watched?
we should try to get along.. i love natalie merchant..
Buck is not Cols nor is he a troll. He’s just grumpy and quick to get mad at his favorite team (I imagine you would agree with my description Buck?) As much as I will butt heads with Buck there is a significant difference between him and a Troll in thay he does actually want to be happy and supportive of the team…He’s just grumpy and quick to get frustrated. But again, he’s shown that he seems to want to be proven wrong and forced to admit it… So while I am often frustrated and at odds with Buck and… Read more »
Well my homer optomism failed me, but there were several things I was happy to see despite being wrong.
Cedi redeemed his two misses. Cavs need wings. Sexton needs to keep working on his decision making.
Clarkson 2-12, Porter 0-6, Delly 2-6 off the bench. Sexton 5-15, Garland 3-9.
Upside, Garland 5 assists, Cedi and TT efficient on offense… ton of rebounds for KLOVE, TT, and Nance against a huge front court.
At least they competed. It is going to be hard to win with this roster
Wow Sexton had a wide open 3.
Cavs look so much better when KLove is getting lots of touches.
Cedi 3 again!!!!
Six point game. Hmmm.
A few late punches when the opponent isn’t looking
Cedi 3!
Nice ball movement Sexton 3!
Nice flip love!
Goodnight orlando
We’re basically watching college sophomores play against full grown men. All we can hope is that kpj and garland develop like Sexton did. In a couple years we’re competitive.
If only the NBA had a minor league
Yup, none of them can legally drink lol
TT weaaaak
TT airballs from 20 and this one is over.
Fultz killing them.
Sexton takes a dumb shot.
Nice hustle tt, damn Sexton blocked on a open 3.
Garland has to realize he can literally get that 20 footer any time he wants.
That was my big reservation with him. Hope he learns by halfway point of season.
He should NOT be starting.
Garland was not ready to start
