Podcap: Cleveland 113, Washington 100 (Or, Too Much Fun)
2019-11-09This one was so much fun. Cleveland came out strong, built a 21 point lead in the second, withstood a furious run by Washington that cut the lead to one in the early fourth, then got dominant again by riding Collin Sexton and Tristan Thompson for a wire to wire win.
Thompson was the best player on the floor Friday, using his ambidextrous hook to put up a 21pt/12reb/3ast/3stl/2blk statline. Kev followed him with 16 & 12 night as he pumpfaked his way to 10-13 shooting at the free throw line. Cedi led everyone with +22, and Darius Garland played his best game with a 16 point six assist effort. All the Cavs looked pretty darned good with seven players in double figures, while holding Bradley Beal to 7-21 shooting.
Rui Hachimura (21/7/3) looked bouncy as heck, and Thomas Bryant led Washington with 23 points, but made the worst play of the game, when he goaltended a Sexton shot and then got a tech for arguing the call.
To break this all down Nate, David, and Tom got in the podcast booth dissected the game, and the NBA. Topics included a story of Tom raging about League Pass, a trip down Amnesia Lane to take a look at the 2007-2010 Cavs, David discussing how to really annoy opponents in rec league basketball with habits that include “touching their calves,” and Nate explaining the rules to cockroach poker. We didn’t want to go to bed. Like the Cavs, we were just having too much fun.
While we didn’t talk about him, Cory Hughey was in all our thoughts, and we know he would have laughed as much as we did.

Haven’t listened yet, but look forward to Tom raging on League Pass. I’ve never had it, I’d love to try it, but I’ve heard so many bad things about it.
Hachimura has looked better than I expected he would. I’m still not sold on him, but I could see him becoming a good player.
Really like KPJ going to the rim. His outside shot looks shaky and mechanical to me — needs to work on that.
The app has been real hit or miss when I’ve had it. Basically had a lot of trouble with it. I don’t use it anymore. The blackout thing is truly something that you should look into. I believe when I had it all national NBA TV games were blacked out and thus not included in the streaming service. Thoughts, Cavs teams in LBJ 1.0 era might have been built around LBJ, but they cumulatively had pretty god awful talent supporting LBJ. Still they probably should have beaten Orlando and Boston. Bad defensive schemes and poor adjustments from Mike Brown. Then the weird LBJ series.
I always liked Agent Zero as a player. Loved him coming out of AZ. Loved him as a player during those peak years. But a goofball.
I missed this game. Too bad we cannot play Longabarfi & IT every night.

As a long-time Apple fan (back from their “beleaguered” days before the iPod), I have hated on Ballmer (then Microsoft) for a long time. Nate you have nailed it – his Big Fat Face. I now have a conflict though, as I don’t mind the Clippers game at all….
