Podcast 216: Down Under Resolutions
2019-12-30G’Day! Since acquiring Dante Exum to join his countryman Matthew Dellavedova, the Cavs are now tied with the Sixers for the Association lead in Aussies. What better occasion to post a podcast that is 50% Aussie!? Nate Smith was joined all the way from Perth, Australia by long time commenter Simmo, and the half Australian EvilGenius. We told the John Dory about what got Simmo into the Cavs in the first place, what it’s like to watch the NBA in Australia and who the most popular Aussies in the association are. Rapt in our early impressions of Dante Exum, we took a squiz at the sports scene in Oz (it’s a Dog’s breakfast), and had a sook over the sweltering heat of the down under summer.
Since Australia starts the new year 13 hours before Ohio, we thought it would be great to have a go at our Cavalier and NBA new years resolutions. We took a Captain Cook at the roster, John Beilein, and the Cavs’ front office as we tried to figure out how to deliver the goods to make the Cavs and their players better in the long term. This one’s a ripsnorter and a great way to close out the greatest decade in Cavalier history.

Resolution: lets start counting decades correctly. I mean, I get a decade coukd be ANY 10 year period.
But the first year of a decade starts with a 1. The last year of a decade ends in zero (not nine).
Then it starts over again. There was no year zero. We started at 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. End of first decade. 11. 12. 13. 14. 15. 16. 17. 18. 19. 20. End of second decade. And so on. I refuse to take part in premeditated stupidity.
Is Love a go tonight? Raps have a ton of injuries, we could have a shot.
I admit, I am a bit surprised the Bucks are this good. I thought losing Brogdon would hurt more.
Not sure I trust Hill & Bledsoe much in the POs. Middleton either. If teams play them like the Spurs played Bron in 2007, and Giannis can’t make jumpers, they are vulnerable.
But the Dubs are out. Everyone has weaknesses this year. A reliable/proven #2 would makeme feel more comfortable.
Is there any way the browns can opt to part ways with the Haslems?
If they sell. Or Cleveland will part ways if they moved the team. Lerner didn’t do much better. They’re not worthy of Cleveland fandom anymore. Haven’t been for two decades.

So here’s a question. Are the bucks for real? I mean they had the best record last year, but stumbled do to inherent weaknesses dealing primarily with their shooting not being able/showing up enough to offset the obvious way to defend them in order to make Giannis struggle. This year they appear to be even better, despite losing Brogdon. They’re on track to win 68 to 70 games barring late season rest. They beat LAL. Good podcast. All-star balloting is open. Thoughts? For me, I try to full out a semblance of a proper lineup with the starters. Someone who can run point. A viable C. And I tend to ding guys a bit for playing on sucky teams and reward guys for playing on winning teams. Especially the starters. Though neither is a hard & fast rule. For me: Kemba, Butler, Siakam, Giannis, Embiid Doncic, Harden, Kawhi, LBJ, Davis Reserves Brogdon, Beal, Middleton, Tatum, Bam Dame, Mitchell, PG, KAT, Jokic Brown, Lowry Gobert, Westbrook Denver is second in the west and Jokic has turned it around. Should be one of first reserves. Gobert has to be on, but Jokic has denver at two so he has to be over Gobert. Siakam has to start. His impact is huge beyond just putting up 25 a night. Embiid is fine I guess. Toronto deserves two with lowry. NO isn’t winning but Ingram is having a heck of a season… Read more »
