2021-01-12Jazz in town tonight as the Cavs look to get back to .500. It’s going to be another tough night, lineup-wise with the same roster as last night, possibly minus Drummond.
#Cavs have ruled out Collin Sexton and Darius Garland tonight. Andre Drummond (Achilles contusion) is questionable. KPJ, Love, Delly, Exum and Windler are, of course, not playing as well.

Drumm is likely a game time decision out after getting kicked the achilles last night. My preference is they just take their lumps and sit him. Yogi Ferrell will play significant minutes again, athey play without Dre, I hope Nance takes over and stops deferring.
As for Utah, Joe Ingles, Jarrell Bradley, and Juwan Morgan are out, while Derrick Favors is probable. As this season grinds down to the nub, it was just announced that Utah doesn’t have to save anything for tomorrow.
League announces that tomorrow’s Jazz game against the Wizards has been postponed. The Wizards don’t have 8 available players to play in the game.

I expect Utah to get this unless Yogi goes off (which he could). I’m just hoping for Okoro improvement, Cedi consistency, and Javale McGee not to be awful. And Larry, take a few more shots.
thought Amico mentioned month ago how Cavs were getting involved with Rockets/Harden trade items and I wasn’t interested in getting Harden on this team. Seems he was kinda right then and they got some decent pieces. Think Allen is better big man and will be affordable for time being. Prince is better than what we have currently. Solid pick-ups without giving up much.
With that said, team needs to get guards healthy. Not sure what is going on with Sexton/Garland but these are young pups and Cavs are resting them like they’re veterans.
Regarding Sexton/ Garland, I think the Cavs were looking at the three days off coming, and decided to take no chances. I’m betting they’re both back for the Knicks game. And Windler should be soon.
Prince is bad… probably not better than what we currently have, but I like Allen. But Prince does become an expiring deal next year @ 13m.
Allen is 22, and pretty good. No way I’d pay Drummond some big salary long term contract when they can just keep Allen. If Drummond wants to sign for a reasonable deal, maybe. I’d look for Javale to be traded (he’s been good for the Cavs, too), and Drummond, if they can move him. Good deal on paper, I’ll miss Exum, but always a question how much he’ll stay on the court. Seems like a good dude.
rather keep McGee on the cheap and dump Drummond…. but McGee probably wants to go to a good team now, and obviously a lot easier to move IMO.
McGee also is a pretty desirable piece for a lot of teams for a playoff run. Might not be until the deadline, but I’m sure he’ll get moved. I have no complaints with him at all, he’s been a plus for the Cavs.
Jarrett Allen is ranked easily in the top 50 in the NBA in PIPM and is 22 years old… not bad Koby!!!
PIPM – +2.03, 34th in the NBA
D-PIPM – +1.07, 27th in the NBA
O-PIPM – +0.96, 53rd in the NBA, just behind Collin Sexton, would be our 2nd best offensive player on the team as rankings currently stand.
If guards can find him consistently on rolls. Those ratings won’t necessarily translate to different teams or rosters.

I don’t think there’s any guarantee that the Cavs pick Allen over drum.
He is RFA this summer. Likely going to command a fair amount of money considering how young he is even though he is basically a roller and shot blocker. So if the turns down QO believe he become rfa this summer. Meaning doubt they will want to sign both because Dre will probably get some big money from someone.
supposedly already turned down QO, though there’s speculation Cavs wouldn’t have traded for him without a tacit extension agreement.
I’ve always heard he wants more playing time…if the Cavs deal Drummond, or just don’t re-sign him, plenty of PT available, and he’s sort of on the Cavs timeline, age-wise. Could be a good longish term piece if he wants it.

A lot of this feels true in the absence of hard info, but the point about Delly being done might be accurate. No info on him at all, he has not posted on his accounts since the new year. Any locals been to the stadium & seen him around?
Admittedly I haven’t been looking at Cavs.com training footage much.
Our injury situation is ridiculous. With COVID a non-factor. 80% of the staters. 7/11 of our rotation guys. Okoro, LNJ, Cedi, & McGee is all that is healthy, and Okoro missed 5 games. Plus Delly. One healthy guard prior to Yogi.
Hard to tell anything about this team right now. No quit, I guess.

Disagree with you Nate, think Wade’s getting robbed quite frankly… would like to see him absorb Maker/Bolden/Stevens minutes and get him extended run right now… Nance was absolutely dead tonight, Wade should’ve gotten 30 minutes tonight.
Wade’s at a -9 net rating, which is not good, but just outside top 300 in the NBA and ranked higher than Stevens and Maker. Age and skill set, I want to see more.

that’s my point, they’re still running their multiple action offense instead of just going high pick and roll over and over.
I mean you sort of have to have a good ball handler who either is a consistent drive threat and/or consistently good shooter, or who can do d the roller consistently to just run high p an r to death. We don’t really have that right now. Not sure Dotson or Cedi is that. Okoro probably isn’t there either. We need some guards to come back. A guard to come back.
It also requires some spacing on the wings or corners to give the roller and or guard some space to drive.
That’s the only game IMO that Yogi can easily execute and maximize his efficiency in an extremely difficult situation for him and the team. He’s never been a great passer, he mainly looks to score… put him situations where he can look to score, and don’t make him run a complicated, rhythm based offense with multiple actions. And that reinforces my point about Wade’s playing time, he’s a guy that should be out there spacing the floor for the backup offense. JB’s had the tendency to put two non-shooting bigs out there in his substitutions, which obviously provide no shooting… Read more »
Yeah I question whether Yogi was the best option available. I almost wonder if Barea would have been a better option. Track history of running an offense. Defensive liability. Old. But at least is a true pg.
Yogi’s fine, not exactly shooting well, but his 3pt % especially with Dallas shows that a Yogi 3pt shot is probably the most efficient offense for the current “2nd” unit (reality is that he’s probably 6th string PG LMFAO).
Would’ve been fine with other options probably, all about the same kind of bad… Yogi’s a decent defender throughout his whole career, which is probably why they went that route.
