Live Thread: Cavs @ Knicks (#Gardening)
2021-01-29Greetings from the future Cavs fans! Well, not really… even though technically it’s early Saturday morning for me. But, what better way to kick off the weekend than with a little light Gardening?
Time to tune in to check out the Cavs’ first visit to Madison Square Garden as they themselves kick off a quick weekend roadie that will include a stop in Minnesota as well. The wine & gold got back to their roots of winning on Wednesday after a couple of disappointing losses (a blowout in Boston and a missed opportunity against the defending champs), by weeding out the Pistons 122-107. Now, they look to plant the seeds of a streak with the first of three winnable games before facing their month-long February gauntlet of challenging contests.
It sounds like they’ll be at near full-strength to handle Julius Randle and the Knicks tonight, as Larry Nance, Jr. is expected back… meaning the Cavs are only down Kevin Love and Matthew Dellavedova. Let’s hope his presence along with some stellar defense and dynamic offense from Young Bull helps these entertaining Cavs continue to grow and flourish.

Allen getting more minutes than Drummond was another curious choice…. Drummond +1, Allen -22, Drummond’s defense clearly better than Allen’s IMO.
Part of the answer to that I think is that Dre generates a lot of transition opportunities where the cavs are at their best offense and really the only time they are functional on o against good d or teams in halfcourt or who are scrambling on d unless Sexton goes insane like against the nets.

Yes. Dre probably should have played more and that is probably the reason. Cavs generate transition opportunities with him in. Against a tough d transition is the one phase where we generate decent looks consistently.

Raw plus minus here is a bit misleading. Allen’s was bad due to being trapped on lineups that the Knicks were abusing: Windler and Dotson. Allen was fine.
Man. What garbage fire that as only thing worse than the Cavs’ shooting was the officiating.

29 minutes for DG when he was the only one making shots among the starters.
20 minutes for Windler when he was the only bench perimeter to make shots.

DG’s our only on ball creator, and he’s just so young and bad right now…. Sexton can get buckets, but when he’s forced into the creator role, just not a good enough passer. Inefficent tonight scoring the ball… and Garland couldn’t generate any offense for others.
Garland with 1 assist, 4 turnovers… Sexton with 5 assists, 2 turnovers…
yup… role reversal tonight LMFAOOO Sexton 6-18 shooting, one of his worst shooting nights of the year along with DG’s best.
Need to open all doors at MSG to let the stink out.
Wonder why JB didn’t work Dotson in? Couldn’t have shot worse than the guys he played, and maybe a fun revenge game for him…
he’s been shooting it really poorly… but I agree in terms of a spark when we were so awful.
Against good defensive teams we need to have more going on in halfcourt. Exposed tonight whether dre has been in or not.
This is JB’s weakness along with some wonky rotations sometimes. See it in his out of bounds and in the halfcourt which struggles to generate looks on the perimeter. Play calling and drawing up set looks and actions to manufacture points. We live and die in transition against decent defensive teams or teams that are trying in half court. Credit the knicks. They made things tough, but we don’t do too much in halfcourt to throw teams off or help the guards with easy decisions. Nor do we try to generate spacing from offball actions.
