Podcap: Milwaukee 123, Cleveland 105 (or, Threebounding)
2021-02-06Cavs looked much more prolific from three in this one: 10-32 to the Bucks’ 7-22. It was a marked improvement to Wednesday’s 10 free throw night, but while the Cavs improved in offensive diversity, they regressed in rebounding: losing that battle 54-36. Between that and trying to stop Giannis (33/12/4) and his ability to take three steps on every dribble, it was tough for the Cavs to keep pace in a fourth quarter that saw them outscored by 15. In that frame, the Bucks turned off the cruise control and hit the gas enough to keep Cleveland at bay.
To break it all down, Nate and Ryan braved the cold to man the podcast both. We talked about the last two games, Collin Sexton (19/4/2) not getting enough run down the stretch, the big Ragu dominating Darius Garland, JB’s problems coaching offense, the Cavs’ poor out of bounds execution, whether the Cavs are tanking, and whether or not Andre Drummond should be fired into the sun. Towards the end we rebound to get into a little discussion of lizard breeding, twee pop, and Wanda Vision. It was a fun way to spend a Friday night.

Thanks for the pod after a rough game — this season has been a real journey already. Among other things I thought that Ryan made a perceptive point about Drummond’s every statistical gain costing the team in some other way. Can’t now recall if it was Nate or Ryan who noted that Cedi is the only guy on the squad who seems to have learned from the ex-Cavs master Kyle Korver about shooting off a curl. I wish Windler could get some more run for that sort of thing, but apart from having more time around the team he is… Read more »
Thanks for the compliment. And unless my my memory failed me again, im pretty sure I brought up the curl 3 comment. If not, and if Nate did i completely agree. It has become such a standard NBA play to generate open threes (or fouls) and Cedi seems to be the only player to execute it. Add that to how Cedi’s shooting form suddenly started looking like Kover’s a couple years ago when they were still teammates and it’s not hard to figure out why. The Cavs have plenty of good shooters, they just need to learn how to get… Read more »
i realize i repeated a conversation asking Nate about Allen’s 3 near the end of the podcast…I was watching the replay while we talked, and saw him hit the three right before i mentioned it again.
Heh, i guess my memory is failing in my old age. Thanks Nate for not calling me out on it.
May only get through a quarter of this one tonight. Totally exhausted, and have top be up early.
Just finished listening to the pod – share a lot of the same sentiments that you both expressed. I’m not as down on coach JB yet. While his OOB plays and challenge shortcomings are frustrating, I think the team has shown flashes that they can come alive offensively. The constant shuffling of the lineups largely due to injuries, facing superior competition, and just plainly the ups and downs of a normal NBA season are significant factors in underperforming as well. Just getting the players to buy in is a MASSIVE step forward. I’m just enjoying that this team is competitive.… Read more »
I agree that I’m not ready to give up on JB…He just needs an assistant coach to take more control of the offense.
Only have listened to the first half, but good pod, guys.
Also, Nance back tonight.

FACTORY OF SADNESSS –( READ BUT NOT A BIG FAN OF THEIR WRTIING ) DID A “BURN ” JOB / ARTICLE ON OKORO—ICE ——AGAIN I READ BUT OFTEN QUESTION THEIR CREDIBILITY OF SPORTS KNOWLEDGE
FOR 3 QTRS WE WERE VERY COMPETTIVE —SOMETIMES I JUST THINK WE HAVE TO REALIZE THE OPPONENT IS BETTER / HAS MORE SKILLLED PLAYERS THAN WE DO AT THIS TIME —–GOOD TO SEE ICE BE SOMEWHAT PRODUCTIVE ON OFFENSE / WOULD LIKE TO SEE HIM SCORE 9-13 PPG ON REGULAR BASIS —-THINK OVERALL DRE’S GAME WAS MUCH BETTER THAN PREVIOS GAMES / CAN TOLERATE GAMES LIKE THIS FROM HIM ——-WITH MORE 3 PT SHOTS / CAVS HAVE TO REALIZE WHERE THE REB’S WILL BE / ANOTHER REASON DRE’S REB’S NUMBERS WERE DOWN LAST NIGHT / FEWER OPPORTUNITIES FRO REB’S AROUND… Read more »
