Podcast 240: Trying to win?
2021-05-25Hello again, CtB!
On day three of the 2020-21 NBA Playoffs, the ole’ ball coach Nate Smith brings together grizzled veteran Elijah Kim and the rookie Chris Francis to wrap up what has been one of the weirdest seasons in Cavs’ history. It started with the the joy of seeing Cavs’ basketball after the long dark night of the COVID cancellation and NBA bubble, then after a decent start of the season, the craziness and tumult kicked in. Kevin Porter Jr., gone, the big trade for Jarrett Allen, the Andre Drummond drama, the Kevin Love drama, then the full-on tank… CtB covers it all in this epic podcap.
They discuss the whereabouts of Dan Gilbert (Dead or alive? Did he even exist at all???). Will we ever hear from Koby Altman again? Does JB Bickerstaff get a mulligan? What will the Cavs do to the roster? The biggest question, were the Cavs actually trying to win this season? and only one way to find out the answers…
And to provide a sonic chaser to the Cavs talk, Nate, Eli, and Chris hand out some hardware to put a 2020-21 season to bed. Nate reveals his the team he’s secretly rooting for. Eli reveals who’s secretly behind the success of his sister’s golfing career. Chris reveals where he lurks on the internet when he’s not on Cavs the Blog, and we hand out our 2021 awards and playoff predictions. You’re not going to want to miss this episode of Cavs the Blog Podcast, enjoy!!!

Hey all, just posted a Koby Altman review/open thread for the playoff games.
Lakers down 16. They scored 15 in the 3rd.
Lakers are toast.
It’s a pretty garbage team without both Lebron and AD…
Bron played the first 10.5 minutes of the quarter.
Lebron alone isn’t going to carry that band of misfits very far…
he’s getting outplayed by Jay Crowder and that G-league/CBA recruited guard (Payne?) in stretches, looks tired
I truly love when scrubs like Kuzma shriek “AND 1!!!!!”, and then miss the layup, and get no foul call…
Bron finally gets a bucket. Nice dish to Gasol. Bron sits. Suns up 11 with 1:30 left in 3rd.
Bron 1 pt in 3rd quarter without AD.
Lakers 2-13 FGs with 5 TOs in 3rd.
Bron passive. Suns up 15.
Suns up 14. CP3 back to back hoops on mid-range jumpers.
Bron racking up careless TOs.
AD did not start the 2nd half. Suns up 10.
Lakers still look poor on O. If CP3 can get healthy (er), I think the Suns have a shot, even down 3-1.
Crowder, for the love of god, stop shooting…
Well, he IS open……
Hawks are just the better team. I thought that going in, and they’re proving it. Just a lot more scoring options.
Randle and Barrett weren’t ready for prime time yet.
I think they were 29-12 since McMillan took over going into today. Not sure if that counted POs. With today’s win, they are 30-12. Only Philly has been better over that same span (by one game).
Randle determined to continue his brick party, at least starting out…
hell yeah Simmo back to back MVPs!!!
listened to memphis utah on my drive last night, sounded like the difference was youthful mistakes by Memphis, lack of defensive adjustment from Memphis coach, and timely 3s by Utah.
Memphis scraps hard & has no quit in them. I like Brooks and love Morant. But Utah at full strength just has a little too much for them, I think.
Well said. Memphis just starting out. Big couple of years coming up for them, but not this year.
Game. Utah by 10. 2-1 lead. Strong performance, challenged & answered
Sounds like it was an entertaining game. I had to get some sleep, so I missed it.
Brooks fouled out
Rudy bucket. Now brooks fouls Mitchell on the 3 shot. I’m calling game.
Brooks clanks twice. Mitchell 3. It’s not over but that’s a gut punch
As soon as I say that, Mitchell drives for two. AND 1!!
Jazz no answer for Morant right now. MEM have tightened up on Conley & Mitchell…
This is shaping up as a classic
Rudy with the putback…
Coupla contented Allen buckets & scores are tied!!!
Brooks on 5, MEM 5 down & peppering the rim. FINALLY goes in, 3 down & Jazz faltering….
Brooks called for his 4th, fired up that Conley not called for one moments ago. Careful now…
Morant going to the line a lot now. Pressuring Jazz D. But MEM can’t stop Jazz scoring….Bogdonavic keeps finding his spots.
Game tightening up…diff hovering between 6-8 points, Jazz not putting them away….
MEM just not hitting enough shots & fouling Jazz too much. 11 down at the half – can’t see them winning unless they get Rudy in foul trouble.
Mitchell flopping in an attempt to endear himself to the Memohis crowd.
MEM gotta get Ja back in the game quick
Never seen a more boring matchup than Sixers / Wizards.
Bad timezone here for watching the Nuggs Blazers game. But very happy to see they’ve pulled even. Series deserves a game 7.
Blazers were kinda running away with it from the start…
I see Powell really filled it up!!!
A YEAR AGO —ALOT OF US –( ME INCLUDED ) WERE STATING OUR OPINIONS RATHER AGGRESSIVELY THAT WE SHOULD HAVE TAKEN T HERO OVER GARLAND—–FAST FORWARD TO 1 YEAR LATER—-GLAD WE GOT GARLAND—-OPINIONS// COMMENTS ??
Give me Garland, then and now. Herro got a lot of burn for a hot Bubble. Good for him, but judging him by that alone is ridiculous.
been a Garland fan day one, but last year was rough. but always believed in his passing and shooting.
Big comeback game for the Blazers so far.
Goodnight dallas.
Clips needed pretty huge games from Kawhi and PG…

Wonder if the Kings regret passing on Doncic?
Why are they relying on Kristaps for 3s? Hardaway standing right there…nothing much out of him tonight.
Turns out getting Zingis wasn’t a great idea…
Lmao. They are not gonna win this challenge.
