Cavs the Podcast #245: the Larry Nance Double Album
2021-07-27 Off By Chris FrancisGood evening CtB!
Tonight, the ole’ ball coach Nate Smith rounds up Eli and Chris for a Cavs the Podcast double album entitled, “Larry Nance: if he’s not a Cav, what’s the point?” Nate’s Will Shatneresque soliloquy on the virtues of Larry Nance Jr. will melt even the most jaded of Cavs fans’ hearts.
On a slightly more serious note, the trio also covers everything else under the basketball sun at the CtB “beach side” podcast studio including Evan Mobley draft buzz, trade rumors, the Olympics, and even a coda on the 2020-21 NBA Season with the Milwaukee Bucks’ championship. If you are starved for content, they won’t leave you wanting.
With the 2021 NBA Draft less than 72 hours away, grab a beverage, pull up the beach chair, and allow the dulcet tones of Cavs the Podcast whisk away those pre-draft anxieties…

Hey, you still rocking Delly’s national jersey Nate! Great to hear. I assume it is carefully packed away for safekeeping after every summer.
I read an article saying the Cavs were the only NBA team that was basically bad at everything. I cannot remember the exact parameters. On offense, I think it was bottom 5 in overall production (points per 100), and bottom 5 in 3 pt% (and attempts), mid range %, and FG% at the rim. The defensive metrics were similarly awful.
We need help in every area on both ends.
lol, yeah. I’m sure I’ll be alone on this, but I’ve come around on Scottie Barnes if Mobley and Cade are gone. Let’s just trot out a line-up with that includes Okoro, Nance, Barnes and Allen… bring back Mike Brown, and be good at one thing at least.
Joking about Mike Brown. Don’t kill me for that :)
David Thorpe has Barnes second on his list. And Cade 3rd. (Mobley first)
100%… we need talent everywhere.

Check out the highs and lows: CC is [1,6], EM is [1,5]. Is there any sane way to rank CC 6? What do you make of EM being way ahead of JG?
I think the consensus is that people really like Mobley’s potential more than Green’s. If Mobley hits his full potential, he’s a generational player.
Watched the highlights of Josh Giddey and I’m definitely a fan. Young, big, moves very well and sees the court. Seems likely to be the “steal” of the draft this year.
Well, ok, if he goes 8th like that board he’s not a steal. But still, he looks like good shot to make it in the NBA.
Chad Ford mentioned that OKC has been very aggressively trying to move up, with the Cavs being the most likely trade partner. I can seriously see Altman screwing this up. Cannot wait till this is over.
Is this where all the Shai/#6 for #3 talk is coming from? Is Sexton part of the deal? Argh, can’t believe I’m letting myself get sucked into all this nonsense again…
i don’t think they are trading SGA at all, unless someone makes an absurd offer.
All the talk is that they want Mobley badly, so it would likely be a 3/6 swap, with OKC presumably throwing in additional picks.
My problem with that is the Cavs need high level talent, not just more young players. They are in position now to get high level talent. Just effing keep the pick. I don’t care how many crappy picks Presti tries to dump.
LMFAOOO came from Cavs people on twitter and it didn’t seem serious at all.
The reports of Morey’s demands for Simmons in trades are hilarious. Four first round picks, 2-3 years of pick swaps after that, and ‘a good young player’. Never change, Darryl.
Think the only biggest surprise would be if Cavs decide to trade down for extra picks. Really think they have multiple options in their hand and will be in a prime spot regardless of how the first two picks go.
The team needs more than draft picks, free agency and vet signings will be crucial for this team to take big steps, but hitting this pick will also pay dividends.
This should be renamed the ButtSex pod. But I can see why you didn’t push that title or hashtag. Might get a whole bunch of new followers. Oh hey, that just might work!
LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
We should not be trading LNJ. He is not a bad contract. And he’s a winning player.
Yup, kind of need functional veterans on good contracts to develop talent lmfaoooo
Totally agree. LNJ is worth more to the Cavs than anyone else.
Funny how that Zach Harper Nance article drops hours after our podcast!!! LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOo
interesting article in the ringer on how the celtics squandered their embarrassment of riches for squat.. they have 2 all-stars, but nothing else to show, and their window is closing.. oh how the mighty (ainge) have fallen.. very few folks in pro sports management worth mortgaging your well-being for.. ..
overvalued their draft picks big time and the Kyrie acquisition was a disaster. Also apparently they have locker room problems too.
whoever the Cavs draft on Thurs night HAS to be the best player on the team which shouldnt be difficult, but when one drafts in top 3 that player has to be best on the team even as a rook….this will be big moment for the Cavs on where the franchise goes cause if they mess it up this franchise will be in purgatory and forgotten very quickly.
IDK about that in year 1. Sexton is a 24 ppg scorer. Garland is likely gonna make another leap. LNJ and Allen are good players right now.
yeah, I’d say at least top 4 impact player, as LaMelo was last year for the Hornets.
this is a pretty cool model, some guys that stand out: Sengun (!!!!), Wagner, Jalen Johnson, Jared Butler, Jalen Springer

Man, I’m really intrigued by Sengun…. if somebody gets him outside of the top 10, that’s a damn heist.
Day’ron Sharpe and Santiago Aldama intrigue me.
I hear the Rockets & Pacers are close to a trade including Gordon to Pacers, and a pick swap in the first (#13 to Rockets).
If the Rockets offer #2 & #13 for #1, do you bite if you are Detroit?

No way OKC does that.
Zach Lowe mentioned on his pod that he didn’t belie the SGA talk. He didn’t have any personal knowledge, but he wasn’t buying it. I’m not particularly, either, but maybe the Thunder don’t want to pay him. He’s a really good player, but one of the reasons the Cavs passed on him to begin with was that he didn’t want to go to Cleveland. I doubt he wants to go there now.
Just take Mobley. Can’t wait till this is over.
interesting, good info there.
if wishes were horses, we’d all have a ride
LMFAOOOOOOO Dad is that you??? LMFAOOOOOOOOOO
worldbfree.. kolby is a worthless little school-girl who should be teaching kindergarden children about bunny rabbits and chipmunks
The player I’m irrationally in love with this draft is Bones Hyland. I’d love to see the Cavs trade back in at 31 or so to grab him.
Is that a real name?
Not his real first name, no, but apparently it’s what he goes by.
Can we pair him with Jordan Bone and have the Bone^2 lineup?
Nice! looks like a guy who can get buckets, very nice shooting splits.
Yeah. I don’t think he’s a future starter, but he seems like a guy who could easily carve out a ten year career as a rotational piece that can hit pull ups and catch and shoots.
right, the need for a backup guard is obviously there for the Cavs!
Anyone else sick of all the draft/trade nonsense? I’ll bet a case of Commodore Perry that 1) we keep #3, 2) draft goes Cade-Green-Mobley, and 3) we don’t find a trade partner for Sexton or Love in the offseason. Any takers? I’d dump Love for a bag of chips (ie, buy the dude out) at this point, but I don’t get the rush to trade Sexton for an unproven late 1st pick. Sure there’s his payday looming, but unless a goldmine trade was on the table (Sexton and #3 for Cade in a heartbeat) any franchise that had any confidence… Read more »
The reports and articles are hilarious. They have to come up with something to say every couple days that isn’t 100% the same thing they said a couple days before. But it gets eyeballs… and most of us would be lying if we said we’re not helping drive it. I completely avoided all this nonsense the last couple years, which was easier because of where the Cavs landed in the draft. This year,I’m guilty of clicking too many dumb ones though.
100% agree, the allure of this pick has me hooked. I appreciate the podcasts here and on more national outlets to feed my hunger. But I would still bet the house on information we knew almost immediately ago — Cavs staying put at three and taking Mobley / Green / Suggs (I hope Mobley!) and not moving off of Sexton. Love is the worst contract in the NBA and the only options are to buy out, or keep on the team and hope he can give you something > 0 and not be an ass in the process. PS Nate’s… Read more »
Appreciate it Rob and everyone!!!
yeah the trades for Nance and Sexton a bit tiresome. I don’t think there’s any rush to trade Sexton for a late first though, or else it would’ve happened already.
