Live Thread: Knicks @ Cavs
2022-01-24Tonight the New York Knicks come to the shores of Lake Erie for a key conference battle. This is the type of game that doesn’t necessarily grab headlines, but its importance will illuminate itself when the season ends. For the Cavs, this game is about keeping pace with the top of East. For the Knicks, it’s about starting to make a second half push into the playoff picture. So there’s plenty at stake in the dead of the season in late January.
On the injury front, it sounds like Rajon Rondo is a game time decision for the Cavs. Also, it seems like Lauri Markkanen escaped catastrophic injury and may even be back sooner than expected, which seem incredible after how he wrenched his ankle. For the Knicks, Kemba Walker will also be a game time decision, and they will be without Derrick Rose.
As for the game, the Cavs would do well to let Julius Randle and RJ Barrett chuck away and sell out to keep Walker, Immanuel Quickley, and Evan Fournier out of the paint. On offense, the Cavs should probably target mismatches against Fournier and Barrett, although Markkanen’s absence makes that a more difficult task. At the end of the day, as long as the Cavs bring the defensive intensity, they should be fine as the Knicks aren’t a good offensive team.
Tip off is scheduled for 7:00PM ET and the game will be broadcasted on Bally Sports Ohio/Great Lakes. GO CAVS!
recap up! sorry the delay
The Wiz blew a 35 point lead to a Clippers team missing Kawhi & PG13. Batum played 8 minutes. Ibaka 4. Zubac 12. Bledsoe 15. Reggie Jackson 16. Those 5 scored 13 points total (Bledsoe had 7).
Wiz had a 6 point lead with 10 seconds left. And lost. In regulation. Three, 5 seconds, four point play. Loss.
I think it may be blow it up time. FWIW, I want no part of Beal. But next to the Kangz, the Wiz are most likely to do domething really stupid. Maybe we can fleece someone else off them.
Watching Blazers-Wolves and, as much as I love the chemistry on this Cavs team — which is a lot — I would trade everyone on our team not named Garand, Mobley or Allen to get Ant Edwards to play with those three. Plug and play some role players/vets and a team built around those four could be winning titles in a few years.
No way the Wolves are that dumb. Worth a call though.
From Fedor’s tweets:
1. Allen questionable for tomorrow.
2. Sexton sounded like he wants to play if the Cavs make the post-season. Sounds like he thinks he could be able.
From the Nets:
1. KD will miss the ASG. Assuming he got selected, so 13 spots.
1. Giannis, 2. KD, 3. Embiid, 4. DeRozan, 5. Young 6. Harden, 7. Lavine, 8. Butler, 9. Tatum, 10. Allen,
11. Van Vleet, 12. DG, 13. Bridges (KD replace).
Snubs: Sabonis, Brown, LM Ball, Beal.

good idea?
IJUST READ THE POST ABOUT JERIMI GRANT NOT WANING T TO BE TRADED TO THE LAKERS// DOESN’T WANT TO PLAY A “TERITARY ROLE ‘ BEHIND BRON// AD——AND THE RECENT COMMMENTS OF D.G.–” WE WANT TO WIN OUR OWN CHAMPIONSHIP “———-IT APPEARS THE SO CALLED ” LEBRON MAGIC “OF PLAYERS WANTING TO PLAY WITH HIM TO GET A RING HAVE ERODED ——–THINK MOST PLAYERS REALIZE THE RING WILL NEVER COME AND THEY DON’T WANT TO PLAY ON A LEBRON TEAM THAT DOESN’T HAVE A CHANCE FOR A CHAMPIONSHIP——CAN’T SAY I BLAME ALL THESE PLAYERS
i would guess russ has a ton to do with no one wanting to go there
Bingo.
He never even had the sense to pass it to Durant in crunch time. Think he’s gonna pass to you? No chance.
Westbrook is a prime example of counting stats being misleading.
no kidding! Getting involved with Russ is a huge blot on LeBron’s legacy as a smart guy.
Overpaying for AD was bad enough, but using all the available salary for AD and RW? Who thought that was a good idea?
As LeBron has gotten older, he has become more demanding and less likely to win. Bad combination!
More desperate. They should have run it back. They were beating Phoenix when AD went down.
The Russ move gives Bron and AD cover. They already won without Russ. If they don’t this year, it is Russ’ fault. If they ran it back & got spanked, it would be in Bron/AD’s.
Neither guy is a top 5 player anymore. Certainly not in the 82. AD never was and Bron is borderline: Giannis, Jokic, KD, Curry, Embiid. That’s 5.
AD has had a rather disappointing career.
ONE MEDIA SOURCE SAID CAVS SHOULD PURSUE B INGRAM// PELS FOR SEXTON// RUBIO // #1 DRAFT PICK —GRIFFF AND KOBY DO HAVE THAT WORKING RELATIONSHIP—-PELS AREN’T GOING ANYWHERE THIS YEAR —-THOUGHTS // OPINIONS
Would take another first at least. I doubt they move Ingram. They’d be stupid.
First, the Pels started 1-12 or something and have been over .500 since. They are in 11th. Two games out of a play in. Behind the Dame-less Blazers. Zion has not played yet. I do not think they are gonna punt on this season or hit rebuild.
Second, if they do, I’d try to unload Zion instead of Ingram.
KUDOS TO SMITH // WADE —NOT MUCH ACTION OF LATE—BUT STAYING READY AND GIVING SOLID MIN’S LAST NIGHT—ALSO I WILL TAKE THAT KIND OF PRODUCTION FROM RONDO EVERY GAME
YEP BIG BRAD MENTIONED IT LAST NIGHT —YOU CAN’Y AFFORD ANY LENGTHY LOSING STREAK —CAN PUT YOU RIGHT AT THE BOTTOM—OUT OF THE RACE REAL QUICK—-EVERY GAME IS IMPORTANT—BELIEVE EACH TEAM REALIZED THIS LAST NIGHT ——–REALLY LIKE BIG BRAD WHEN HE JOINS THE BROADCAST // VERY INSIGHTFUL// DOESN’T HOLD BACK HIS OPINIONS
The Eastern Conference leader board is pretty tight right now: 6 teams within 2.5
Big second half shots by KLove and D. Wade, and huge boards by Mobley sealed the deal.
Thought the rondo playing time at the end was going to become a way to free Garland off screens. Instead we used Rondo as a freakin zero gravity spot up shooter? He doesnt play near good enough defense to have been in for D.
Yeah. That set was abysmal.
DAMN WEATHER—OUT WITH SON PLOWING FRIGGIN SNOW ⛄️—-WILL WATCH REPLAY TOMORROW// “ALL GRIT NO QUIT” 👍🍺👍🍺👍🍺—-“MORE BEER PLEASE “🤪
Good win!!! Winning ugly is a sign of a good team

They need a Kendrick Perkins type “Enforcer” guy.
Okoro +18
Was phenomenal tonight.
Long strange trip of a game, glad to have the W. Special shout out to Immanuel Quickley, who goes 1-10 from the field. Box score +/- says Obi Toppin and Quentin Grimes were each about +20, yikes! I don’t watch Knicks regularly enough to know much about what counts as a standard rotation pattern, nor am I versed in their injury rehab situation / minutes limitations — but Cavs were probably fortunate not to have Kemba or Fournier out there at all for the fourth quarter, that last possession was downright ugly. Props to Ed Davis for denying the sideline… Read more »
Thibs is a disaster, it’s a huge problem right now in New York. But unbelievably no rumors of his firing yet.
I hadn’t realized he is getting so old for the grind of NBA coaching — on the broadcast they said Tibs just turned 64, which makes him maybe the third-oldest coach in the league if I’m not mistaken behind Coach Pop (who is coming up on 73) and Alvin Gentry (69). Incidentally John Beilein’s 69th birthday is coming up on 5 February, maybe he wants to coach the Knicks?
LMFAOOOOOO damn that’s great little tidbit about THibs age, it shows!!!
FT% =76.0%. Ranked 20th
Its only that good because we had a string of 95%+ games early on

Mobes’ missed FTs were maddening, but, yeah, some huge boards in crunch time…
plus one on that Nate and MikeO — sure half his free throws rimmed out, but he put the team on his back on the possessions side and made some great plays.
Loved the Rondo 3s but (back on the defensive side of the ball) not sure the majestic flop in the final minute on Randle was a great idea. That Kevin Love stretch in the third quarter was also pretty epic, dude went 6-12 all from three!!!
