Live Thread: Cavs @ Pacers

With the NBA trade deadline now passed, the Cavs travel to the Crossroads of America to take on the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers have completely overhauled their roster, of which the Cavs were beneficiaries with the acquisition of Caris LeVert. There’s simply no telling what kind of team Indiana is at this point with all of the new faces. They were a team who were average on offense and below average on defense. Yours truly is a big fan of the Tyrese Haliburton acquisition so it’ll be interesting to see Coach Rick Carlisle continues to develop the young talent.
For the Cavs, Darius Garland is out again with a nagging back. Hopefully it’s just load management rather than a persistent problem. In DG’s place, Caris LeVert will get the start. This will be a great opportunity to get Caris more comfortable with the team as a point guard and the ball in his hands more, which is when he’s most effective especially as a pick and roll maestro. Also, bench dawg Brandon Goodwin could see some action as well.
#Cavs newbie Caris LeVert, back in Indiana and playing his second game with Cleveland, will start at point guard in place of injured Darius Garland (back) tonight, sources tell @clevelanddotcom.
He will join Isaac Okoro, Dean Wade, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen.

Levert just endured and accomplished a lot over the past week. Like sure he is making more money than most of us combined on ctb and money helps remove stress when moving and stuff…but he just navigated a really weird experience with completely positive energy and grace AND performed when he was needed for the new business he just joined. maybe going from the worse to the better team is also helpful…but i just keep thinking about how happy garland said he was with the trade and then Levert immediately gets thrown into PG duties without Garland’s help against his… Read more »

Honestly…getting him for valentine was a steal this year only because the lakers are a trash heap.
If the stories I keep hearing from cavs insiders and we all keep hearing from the cavs young players are true…he should get a mega offer a la Tyron lue to be an assistant in Cleveland as soon as next season.that kind of value add is underated like crazy
very sad to see rubio go down with the injury.. but very sweet to see his place taken by levert.. looks like a close to optimal fit, even after 2 games..
My hope is we bring Rubio back next year, a la Delly, even if he is a shell of himself. The dude left his fingerprints all over our success this year, and if he does have anything left, he deserves a chance to be a part of this culture.

Me, too. He probably won’t be able to play to start the year. We can’t count on him to be PG#2. So if we get a PG#2 (not named LeVert) he won’t play much. So, he likely won’t come. Weird dynamic. .

We waited a bit for this…but all indication is a veteran like him can thrive in a reserve roll with savvy and skill alone. He will not make us forget Rubio, but the second R-squared can still give us a healthy second-team floor leader.
Rondo has had two great games and some OK games, out of a dozen or so. That is a huge contribution for an old guy we got for free!

7 guys in double figures. LeVert (22 & 5 dimes on 10-19), Allen (22/14 on 8-12), Rondo (17/7/6 with 3 stls), Love 14 pts 3/5 from deep, Cedi 14 on 6/12, 13 for Wade, 10 points and 2 blocks for Okoro (including a big one late). Mobley had 8 points & 5 stocks (including a big one late).
JB even got a tech tonight. Love kept us in the first quarter. Rondo got us the lead. LeVert closed it out.

I missed the game, but caught the post game show. Chones sez the game ended with three straight times of LeVert walking up the floor, taking it to the hole, and couldn’t be stopped.
And on the 4th time they doubled him, he found Allen with a pass in the high post. Allen to Ice to Mobley for the jam with 1 sec left on the shot clock
It’s pretty crazy how these last two against the pacers were pretty much identical…blown out in the first then climb back and dominate the fourth to win …
On the recap, the Pacers’ announcers snidely remarked in the first quarter that these Pacers “were not what the Cavs expected.” Footnote: adding LeVert makes the Cavs a bit not what the Pacers may have expected.
