Live Thread: Cavs @ 76ers

It’s Saturday night, and the Cavs are in the City of Brotherly Love for a massive Eastern Conference clash against the Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers. Both teams are fighting for home court advantage in the playoffs. Both teams made trade deadline moves, none bigger than Philly acquiring the services of James Harden (though apparently Harden has not passed his physical, so the trade is in limbo at the moment). The Sixers have gone from plucky underdog story to loathed rival contender, so it will be interesting to see how they handle the weight of bigger expectations.
For the Cavs, they are riding high off of the comeback win last night against the Indiana Pacers and will be looking to keep the good vibes going heading into the All-Star break. Cavs’ fans and fans of the game will rejoice in the return of All-Star Darius Garland to the starting lineup. The Cavs are not only trying to win tonight, they are also trying to gain as many meaningful reps as a team trying to continue to grow and develop chemistry with the new guys.
Obviously, the headline for this game is the big men, Tower City vs. Joel Embiid and a recently rejuvenated Tobias Harris. Which defense will come through? The Cavs will have the edge in that department, but Joel Embiid is playing MVP-level offense. If you can’t get revved up for this matchup, do you even like basketball? Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
Tip off is scheduled for 7:30PM ET and will be broadcasted on Bally Sports Ohio/Great Lakes. Go Cavs!

Like the Bengals, I think it is a year too soon. But damn, they came AWFUL CLOSE to winning it anyway. So I think we should be big players in the buyout market & shoot for that #2 seed.

that sucked, but the game played out like most thought, Bengals need to find some damn offensive linemen worth a shit.
there were about four penalties the first 59 minutes, and then three weak calls IN A ROW in the last minute to hand the win to the home field Rams. If the situation were reversed, it would be a huge deal.
Well, it was disappointing they decided to call the ticky-tack stuff late, but not on Ransay early for holding Higgins. But they also missed Higgins’ face mask on the long TD. Evens out. Bengals, I believe, had 6-7 possessions with a 4 point lead in the 2nd half and only got a FG after the pick. Burrow had Higgins wide open on the first 4th & 1 but locked in on Chase (still should have punted). Boyd drops his first pass of the year on 3rd & 7. Yup… Bengals couldn’t create the avalanche after the hot start after halftime. Massive missed opportunity that kept Rams in the game.
As I Bengals fan, I’d also add that Donald was clearly lined up offside on that early 4th and 1 and the entire Rams O-line started early on the Logan Wilson play late.
as a massive die-hard Bengals fan…. that game crushed me. Sooo many let downs over the years, just another in the quiver I suppose. next Cavs game cannot get here soon enough, I need a win baby!

didn’t watch it either. a friend who did said Embiid was having a night, and there was not much that could be done. not a surprise that LaVert cannot dominate every game — pretty sure he is not in the ASG next week. hey Nate…lots of celtics fans and writers/pundants are unhappy with the Derrick White trade.
I can’t argue with some of the logic in that they gave up more for him than we had to for Levert. Are they gonna be better or worse with White?
Better. Much better. I think they catch the Cavs. The additions of Theis and White will let them play bigger and move Tatum to 3 in a lot of lineups. Plus they’ve cleared room for Grant Williams at the four. Most Celtics writers are stupid. And they should have to give up more than the Cavs did for LeVert. White is better at almost everything, and is on a very affordable 4 year deal that will end when he’s 30.
Honestly this was an encouraging loss. Yeah embiid went nuts but we were still threatening. Couldnt hit a football field in the 1st. Harden should make that team better on offense when embiid sits…but he will really lower the floor of their d, which is super solid
Be interesting to see what Harden looks like. If he actually plays like a superstar that team may be the favorite or one of the favorites to come out of the east (along with a healthy Miami and bucks). Reason being Embiid clearly carries that team. When he goes out they are an entirely different unit, and Harden having staggered minutes could prevent momentum shifts in non-Embiid minutes. Even at 80% or out of shape, Harden still significantly reduces dependence on Embiid just to win every game or dominate enough to get a large enough cushion that they can maintain… Read more »

Actually he can only play 8 more games the entire rest of the season. Nets have a ton of home games and 3 of their road games he’s ineligible (2 @ Knicks and 1 @ Toronto)

We have a lot of finese/skinny guys.
Stevens (edge of rotation), Davis (out of rotation), & Rondo (did not play) are our dawgs of the junkyard variety. You need a bit of that. Draymond. PJ Tucker. Haslem. Laimbeer. Rodman. Varejao. Especially when your best guy is not real physical.
