Podcast 270: (or, Group Chat+Save the School)
2022-04-27 Off By Chris FrancisEditor’s Note: this Episode of Cavs: the Podcast is sponsored by Precious Ones Ministries, and our fundraising drive to “Save the School.” It’s simple. It’s direct. See the details below, and give what you can. We’re presenting this pod commercial free save our ask that you help us with this effort.
One of the features of 21st century communications is the so called “group chat.” It enables people, regardless of their location, to instantly communicate with each other in a social way. In this episode of Cavs: the Podcast, Nate Smith, Eli Kim, and Chris Francis have staged an “avant garde” performance of their most recent discussions regarding the post-mortem 2021-22 Cleveland Cavaliers. Listeners can dive in and “peak behind the veil” of CtB to discover how the guys are processing the Cavs’ season now that the playoffs are in full swing.
There’s a little bit of coach talk, PBO talk, player talk, trade talk, draft talk, join in on the friendly banter below. And most importantly, Nate comes through with the most important pitch in CtB history, below.
So I’m currently fundraising for a school in Uganda that my cousin runs that we want to fund through the year (at least). It is a school for very poor children which would not have a school if this did not exist. If you ever felt grateful for the years of free content that this site has provided, please consider giving back by donating to this school. I’m going to come up with some way to thank the donors, but I will start by just saying, everyone who donates $50 gets a sweet T-Shirt (no details yet, but you know I’m good for it). Read about it here. Learn more on the facebook page. Donate here. The charity is a 501c3 and fully deductible.
The Story
Our dear friend Shannie in Uganda, the Director of Precious Ones, has been running a school for years for the orphans and the poor in her village. When I met her she was paying for the teacher’s salaries out of her own salary (she works for a church in the city) and running the school out of a garage. Some land was donated to her and she would literally buy a brick every time she earned enough money to buy one. She knew one day God would provide a school building! Talk about faith!! We were blessed to be able to help build the school.
Another organization was helping pay for the food and school fees. She also had support from some kind individuals. However, the pandemic shut the school down for two years. The support ended during that time.
Fast forward to now. The school opened back up in January with almost no support. Shannie is really struggling to keep the school open. The school has 200 students and 10 teachers. It also has the only well in the area with clean water. They also feed the kids lunch at School. School in Uganda is not free, nor does the government help in any way. She is short $1000 a month.
If the school closes, these kids will not be educated. That’s just the reality. Most of their parents received little-to-no education (we are trying our best to educate the women in our program, but most have never had formal education a day in their lives).
To keep the school open and to step into this partnership, we would need people to give $1000 a month. That’s 10 people willing to give $100 a month. Or 40 will to give $25 a month. All donations to this go through Precious Ones Ministries and would be tax deductible.
Will you help us keep the school open?

Lol if Mark Jackson gets hired again
It was written long ago.
Looks like the Mavs are gonna hang on. Every series is gonna be 2-1 after 3 games.
darn. Every series 2-1 at midnight tonight was going to be my prediction!
I would like to see everyone 2-2 after the next set of games. I don’t recall that being very common.
CP3 is struggling a bit tonight. 3 TOs in the second quarter alone.
I cannot stand Kidd, but this is more interesting if the Mavs win this one.
If I played on Jason Kidd’s team and he called me out for not stepping up, I would simply call him out for being a wife beating P.O.S.
Preach, brother.
SIMMO– IDID A ‘CLF” (LMFAO)—-THANK YOU !!!

Lie Detector: Negative.

CP3 and Booker virtuoso performances

Dallas missed the Ben Werth memo.
Bullock smashing it!
My god, Crowder is a dickhead.
And yet Shaq is extolling his virtues at the half. I feel sick.
Would be interesting to ask Shaq to name a worse player in the NBA. Should be easy to do, since Crowder is so good.
Jae Crowder is such an irredeemable douche. He also sucks at basketball.
eloquent description!
Picks: Heat, Celtics, Suns, Warriors.
Rooting: Heat, Bucks, Suns, Grizz.
I’d have taken the Bucks if Middleton was healthy.
Payton has been huge for GSW, him beingout will hurt them. And Brooks’ foul was dirty in my book. However, Kerr b!tching about “breaking the code” is certainly rich from a guy who coached Zsa Zsa (takes out Kawhi on dirty play) and coacheds Draymond (how many guys has he kicked in the nuts?).
Second round is looking good.
I’m favoring Bucks and Grizz. Haven’t decided on the other two, maybe Heat and Mavs?
Might fall back on the simple formula I learned when I lived in Peoria: “Whichever team is farthest from salt water”.
Grizz get a huge game from Morant and win a close one, but hard for me to see this one going other than Warriors in 5 or 6. No shame on the Grizz, they’re probably a year or two away.
HERO GOT THE AWARD ( 6TH MAN ) BUT I WILL STILL TAKE KLOVE AS OUR 6TH MAN !!!!!
Doesn’t surprise me.. highest scorers off the bench basically gets it.
right on, bro!

Hope he got his voice back.
another hmm is in order.. windler (6’6″) or poole (6’4″).. poole or windler.. wow.. this is a hard one.. oh well, let’s take the extra 2 inches and after all he is a “wing”.. woulda.. coulda.. shoulda.. another sad case of the misses
the FO’s ears were still ringing from everyone screaming about picking DG, a small guy.
raoul bro.. the difference between okoro + windler vs maxey + poole is about equal to the difference between a bb and a basketball.. pro sports (especially hoops) is, above all, a game of talent differential.. koby is a pretender, but he has plenty of company.. excellence in talent recognition in the nba is very rare.. golden state has it in spades.. i hope they win another one…folks love to hate on gs but they run on smarts, not luck
I very much hope that when Glenn Rivers is coaching the Lakers next year he brings in DJ and starts him at center.
ALL “HAIL ” THE NEXT SPORTS DYNAST Y—THE ” JACKJUMPERS”——-I LOVE IT SIMMO !!!
Just made my donation! Nate, Chris, Eli & Co: thanks for supporting a great cause and for this great forum/community that we can collectively commiserate about Cavs basketball on. Looking forward to the lottery and draft season!
Warning: non-NBA post! Way back when I did my first pod with CtB I spoke about the Aussie league team I used to follow here, the Tassie Devils. I lived on the island of Tasmania when I was at college, they were always the poor cousin to the teams from the mainland and didn’t win much. They struggled financially and eventually folded (around 25 years ago – man, that hurts to say!), I stopped following the sport. This year, the island started a new franchise called the Jackjumpers (named after a type of ant). They were not fancied to perform… Read more »
this is fantastic Simmo! Love the mascot!!!! LMFAOOOO
If they win the title, I’ll post more about the Jackjumper ant – it’s habitat, preferred food and most of all it’s extremely painful bite.
GO JACKJUMPERS!
Jordan Poole is a nice luxury for the Dubs to have…
dominated the game
My boy Giannis just did the Celtics dirty. He completely dominated despite shooting absolutely poorly. This is going to be a hell of a series. The Celtics had to adjust to playing a team that actually cares about playing defense. I fully expect them to punch back, as soon as next game.
yup, yup…. great eye test game for Giannis, he bludgeoned the Celtics to death LeBron style.
Giannis all-around game yesterday, especially with his strength reminded me of Lebron as well.
They probably aren’t going to shove him around like they did Durant. They’re likely to get the worse of it if they try.
I am always of the opinion that the Celtics are frauds, until proven otherwise.
Man, these two teams might play some ‘entertaining’ games, but it’s just nonstop boneheaded play occasionally interrupted by a legit great NBA play. Hard to believe the Warriors won’t wax with extreme prejudice whoever comes out of this crapfest.
Agreed. Poor discipline on both teams .
I disagree…. I think Memphis can hang, should have a ton of confidence from beating them in last year’s play-in.
I think the biggest thing is seeing JJJ and Brooks not play well on offense… massively caps their ceiling.
Also, Steven Adams is unplayable… maybe that changes? IDK
Grizz have the potential upside to hang…but they’ll get smoked if they play braindead again…
Their interior D was a consistent problem through the series….until the 4th quarters. They will need to be more disciplined to stop easy inside points.
Woooow what a finish to the Mavs Jazz.
hmmm… maxey or okoro ? okoro or maxey ? too bad cavs took the wrong one.. this scheit drives me insane.. even with some of the good luck picks cavs have stumbled into..
Love him, but LNJ still doing dumb fouls
too bad pelicans were able to steal talent (mccollum, nance) from portland.. they have gone from near garbage to being able to compete with 64 win PHX.. griffin was not deserving of that gift..
gotta agree with the buck
PHX is 64 wins for basically no reason. Continuity was an extra boost this year for all the teams that had it cuz of injury and depth issues. They will likely crash out next round possibly by a 4-1 margin or worse. Milwaukee exposed them in the finals. They’re a paper tiger.
(cut to me eating my foot in 3 weeks…)
CP3 is the best PG in the game. Booker the best 2 guard. Bridges is first team all defense. Ayton is awful good.
They will beat Dallas in 5 or 6 even if Booker does not play.
Nance putting in huge minutes for the Pels…
I will do anything for a CtB t-shirt. Even if it means giving some money so kids can have a school. Enjoyed the pod so far (it always take me a couple of days to get through them). My viewpoint on JB: I think this year the prime directive was to focus on developing the young core of Garland, Mobley, Okoro, and Sexton. Obviously Sexton’s year was derailed early by injury. The focus on Okoro was his defense — matching him up against the best scorer on the other team and resting him on offense. Garland and Mobley thrived and… Read more »
good post Charlie, agree re: upgrades
I would agree that those four players seem central to the strategy early on. I would disagree that Okoro’s defensive development was in JB’s mind at all. He played Okoro like Isaac was an established 5 year veteran who was already a lock down defender whom he didn’t need to care about. And regarding Cedi and Windler…arguing that Windler got enough of an opportunity this year to be evaluated is kinda silly. He will Joe Harris his way to Phoenix or Dallas or San Antonio or Miami and we will all be like “why couldn’t he perform that way in… Read more »
one never knows when someone turns out to be a late bloomer. but it is rare.
I don’t see the evidence that Windler will be great as soon as he escapes JB. if you were picking teams for a game in a gym, would you pick Windler ahead of Goodwin?
wait what? yes unless i needed a point guard. Would I pick windler ahead of goodwin if each were subs? Yeah. every time. And Joe Harris isn’t exactly Great. Just an obviously serviceable rotation player.
I think Goodwin lead the team in scoring a couple times, and Windler lead the team in o-fers often. that is obviously not the entire story, but you can’t help but notice.
Thanks, guys!
Boston’s path becoming smoother.

Just such BS. Ted Cruz’s son will need to have a big shooting series.
And that Grizzlies game…epic final few minutes that will stay with me for some time.
AWESOME PODCAST AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING FOR THIS SCHOOL// COMMUNITY —-WILL DONATE TO THE CAUSE !!——-PTL !!
Awesome work Nate & team!!!! Will certainly donate.
Awesome pod. I threw some cash your way. The draft should be interesting. One thing, KLove should be in the HOF right? Can’t do him wrong on a bad trade, I agree.
He’s def HOF worthy, esp a few more healthy seasons to add some stats.
