Live Thread: Wizards @ Cavs
2022-10-23Good evening CtB!
The Cavs are back home and welcome the undefeated Washington Wizards to the shores of Lake Erie for a Sunday evening primetime showdown on national TV. The Cavs will have to overcome fatigued legs and an injured Darius Garland in order to secure victory tonight. Luckily, the Cavs put a proper beatdown on the Chicago Bulls last night and were able to save some minutes on many a weary legs.
What stands out about the Wizards 2-0 start is how they are playing defense to begin the year. Coach Wes Unseld Jr. has them flying around the defensive end. Their offense stinks, and it’s unclear whether they can really do anything about it unless someone else besides Bradley Beal and Kyle Kuzma can make some plays.
Tip off is scheduled for 7:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio and NBATV. GO CAVS!
Do you guys think Ainge woulda done the Spida deal with Okoro in Lauri’s place? Do you think Kobe woulda done it?
Until a few days ago, I’d guess most of the league saw Ice as the more valuable chip.
Man, we’d be SCARY with Lauri playing like this. DG, DM and the three seven-footers. Who even has the personnel to defend that?
I so badly want to believe in Ice — especially since my daughter would like him to be my future son-in-law — but it’s getting harder every day…
Ainge too smart. Koby would totally have pulled that trigger.
Entire CtB crew really want Okoro to break out and fulfil his potential, but you can hear the clock ticking. The offensive end is his challenge, good developmental coaching should get him close but he has to WANT it.
Lauri was the trade target since he has the runs on the board. Okoro is still a bet and therefore a risk.
Pretty much. Also, they would need to decide on a contract for Okoro very soon, when he hasn’t really shown what he will be yet, so it’d be an unpleasant gamble. Lauri will be easy to move down the line if they want to do that. I think Okoro can be a really valuable NBA player, but he still has to show it. I imagine a few weeks in the G league where he is really pushed on the offensive end would be good for him, but I don’t see that happening. He’ll have to develop amidst a sort of… Read more »
Remember how good Okoro was on offense in the last few games of his rookie season? I think it was after Colin went down and there was a scoring void. Sure, we were in free fall as a team at the time, but you saw what Ice could do in an aggressive mindset. I just want to give him some Hulk pills or something that will get him angry. Dude should be destroying people.
Not a chance from the Jazz perspective. Lauri was always the most attractive trade piece. That was the cost of making DG, Mobley, and Allen untouchable. Lauri has size and skill, is still young and on a reasonable contract.
Yeah, you guys are probably right, but it was only a season ago that Bulls Lauri was seen as a massive bust and we were mocked for taking on his contract. Suppose that’s a credit to the Cavs organization for getting him back on track. And I assumed that Sexton was the centerpiece of the trade — other than the picks, of course — especially since they gave him a comparatively nice contract.
Colin’s not nothing, and I’m sure his inclusion was instrumental as well, but obviously not valued enough that the Cavs couldn’t get it done without including a bigger chip. Sucks I know, because he’d be great with this team. But obviously Mitchell is showing why you take that risk.
Had to sign out of the live thread as OT started, but wanted to type “Cedi is gonna win this for us”. Didn’t have the time or the courage to do so. Regrets, I’ve had a few.
GOTTA REMEMBER –DUE TO HIS ANKLE SPRAIN—MOBES MISSSED ALOT OF TRAINING CAMP—ALSO DG HELPS HIS GAME AND JA’S GAME ALOT !!—–AM SURE THE MORE THEY PLAY –SPIDA WILL IMMMENSELY IMPROVE BOTH OF THEIR GAMES
Think I said (only partly joking) that he is missing DG. His game at this point depends heavily on that point guard connection.
Watched it late. I’m already tired of Spidas turn overs. His pocket passes and lobs are very much below average. Caris or Cedi should bring the ball up. I’m impressed with the defensive effort from everyone which kept us in the game. Spida does have a nice long reach. I would also consider starting Neto or at least having him and Caris alternate so they’re on the floor and take the ball out of Spida’s hands.
Play of the day goes to Lopez for his circus shot.
Take the ball out of the hands of the team’s best player. That makes a ton of sense /s
No, I get it Mark.
A guard knocking down 30 points every game does not necessarily mean they have good control of the ball down the stretch. Well, it might of course if they were like a top 20 talent and were therefore the target of the defence for the entire game while the other main PG was out injured. Would be exacerbated by B2B conditions perhaps. Hmm. I might retract my argument if that’s ok.
Both Zion (injured on dunk attempt when he cocked it back & Clarkson made a play on the ball) and Ingram (concussion) in the Jazz game.

Pretty cool!
if (when) levert reverts to effortlessly hitting his mid-range jumpers and averaging 15 AND okoro gets back to his 10ppm average.. everything flows almost effortlessly.. and i will raise my expectations for the group from 5th-6th t0 3rd-4th..maybe higher.. i am all-in on this group in the playoffs,, they will be very dangerous, if healthy
Gotta see Mobes round into form as well
Nice games tonight so far. Cavs/Wiz OT. Jazz OT win in NO. Dame time in LA late for a 2 pt win.
The lakers might not win a game
I wonder how far under .500 they have to sink before LBJ gets passive/aggressive and forces Russ out?
He is getting the John Wall on the Rockets treatment at sone point.
Lucky for them the Pels have draft pick swap rights with them for the upcoming draft…
I forgot we are on a b2b. Think Mitchell kind of ran out of gas at the end (not the only one).
Totally, those were mental exhaustion mistakes
The Jazz are 3-0. With wins over the Nuggets, Wolves, and Pels.
Lauri with 31 and 12 on 9 of 17 shooting. OT game. Sexton 8 on 2 of 10. Agbaji DNP.
All noted. The Big Finnish would be welcome back in Cleveland any time.
You missed the craziest stat: Clarkson with SIX ASSISTS!
color me impressed.. Utah beats Pels.. ??
Ainge must be beside himself I guess the team didn’t get the memo about the first pick
How long before we can trade for Markannen?
Next summer.
love hurt ? why only 14m ?
B2b I guess…saving those aging legs
Wade played well tonight
Yeah he was solid
Being careful with him in a back to back I suspect.
2-1. A half from DG. No Rubio. Mobley & Okoro have not looked good.
Still, I will take it. Gladly. DG should be back next game. Mitchell will have to do less heavy lifting.
Cedi has been fantastic.
Doesn’t sound like DG will be back until Friday.
I feared another epic choke vs the Wiz at the end, but other than that, it was a really good game. And a good win. Despite no one shooting the lights out (I think Cedi/Wade/Lopez were the only guys over 50%).
2-1 without DG vs Raps, Bulls, and Wiz with 2 on the road.
Huge growth moment for the Cavs! Glad we went to overtime, great teams need friction. They handled themselves like contenders. So blessed we can watch this Cleveland team.
I want to get Garland back so they can go thru the lumps of DM and DG playing together then just crush.
Mobes just not confident in his ankle yet? He is playing worse than he did as a rookie
Yeah he has not looked right at all
He probably misses DG more than anyone, JA is a vet and can adapt to the new kid in town. We know Mobes has the goods. He’ll figure it out.
Geez, I’m exhausted. Cavs must be running on empty. Great win. Team mangoes
easy to love this group.. the evolution from 3 years ago is UFB
Wow – thought they were gonna lose that for sure when it went into OT. What a turnaround
Gotta send better vibes to the team. Have faith!
DONOVAN MITCHELL MVP

Fantastic regroup.
Goodnight Bullets!
nice to get the opener at home.. with spida doin a record setting performance and no-quit team play
For those tracking…Wow Lauri 31! Sexton(8) and Agbaji(DNP), meh.
Sexton MVP /s
Well that SHOULD do it. Again.
Mitchell was brilliant (again) for the first 45 minutes or so. Then the b2b TOs and missed a bunch in a row. But then regrouped at the end.
MVP CHANTS!
CARIS TO JA BROOKLYN DO YOU LIKE WHAT YOU SEE???????
Despite missing some hooks, Allen has been awesome this game.
Great game for JA. Bet he’s missing DG, but played his tail off tonight.
He played his ass off tonight.
