Live Thread: Cavs @ Pistons

The Cavs have traversed across the Great Lake Erie to the Motor City for the first game of a five game road trip for the 6-1 squad. Unfortunately, the headline for this matchup is the Cavs’ injury report with Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, and Dylan Windler all reportedly out with injury. The Cavs will turn to Caris LeVert at point guard, with Isaac “Ice” Okoro and “James” Dean Wade filling out the starting lineup.
Even though the Cavs are without their top two offensive engines, it’s not unreasonable to think that the Cavs should at least be competitive given how bad Detroit has been to start the season. They’re a bottom five offensive and defensive team to start the year. If the Cavs can lock it down on defense, the first team to break 90 points probably wins.
Tip off is scheduled for 7:00PM and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio, Go Cavs!

i hesitate to use this phrase, because it really was the trademark of one of the greatest athletes of all time, HOWEVER, in the cavs case, it really is so appropriate, and SO improbable that i will throw it out there.. as a preface, if this team stays disciplined and cohesive, which i fully expect (recognizing there will be some minor excursions), they can beat EVERY team in the league in a series.. Saw in one of Fedor’s tweets that JB took the blame for Okoro’s struggles: usage, rotations, fit in lineups, etc. Not sure it is true, but it is good coaching. One of JB’s strengths is his communication with players, building trust with them, and creating a team culture.
I think the team (and Mitchell in particular) is seeing they can really go places. And maybe sooner rather than later. DM & DG giving really good effort on D exemplifies it.

FWIW, I was so focused on Love’s almost triple double, I neglected the fact the Mobley was close as well (2 boards & 2 blocks). Both could have gotten em if they played the 4th.
I saw JB discussed it with Kev, but Kev said do what is best for the game, & JB wanted to give the others OT. Classy by both guys.

Really impressed with how Neto has played. If we had him last year, I think we may have won the play in game.

With the way LeVert played tonight, and Neto, and the way Mitchell played with DG out, not to mention Rubio will come back at some point….PG play is a strength of the team.
Not to mention Kev droppin’ dimes!
He is a professional PG. He is not super explosive or much of a scorer, but he understands his role, gets the team into their sets, and executes the game plan.
Mobley’s blocks are they’re own category, he sort of just takes the ball away in midair

It is weird to say this after a win vs a poor Detroit team, but I believe the Cavs can be legit contenders this year.
The two wins vs Boston (sans Williams) did not convince me. But this did. Maybe it is cumulative? Boston W’s got me close, but this permirmance from Allen, Mobley, LeVert, Love, Cedi, & Neto + a glimpse of decent play from Ice has me really optimistic. I am already a believer in Spida and DG.
Looking forward to the Bucks matchup.
i was a tad skeptical about this one (was not able to watch or listen).. thinking there would be a letdown with the 2 studs getting some rest.. o ye of little faith.. what was i thinking ? this is a team of destiny.. good for ok.. this team will not let him fail (as long as he puts in the work)
key game for Okoro, he might’ve just played his best game, 9 points 4 rebounds in 23 minutes is fantastic for him.

Yes, really expected this to be a dangerous situation with the two starting PGs out but the Pistons are terrible and couldn’t put any pressure on the ball. What a pleasantly surprising blowout!
I thought the Cavs had a chance to win, and I thought it would be much closer. I’m glad I was wrong on the second part.
Cade had 16 in the first half and only 3 in the second, solid adjustment.
Stunning result, really. I know Detroit stinks, but Cade, Ivey, Bey, and Bogey is not chopped liver.
A win was unexpected. But a laugher? On the road? Without DG & Spida? Unbelieveable.
Allen got his offensive mojo going. Mobes got his defensive mojo going. LeVert was fantastic running the point. Love was otherworldly off the bench: 21/8/10 off the bench in 22-23 minutes. 10 dimes? Cedi was great. Neto was good. Ice was fine. Took a 3, got some rebounds.
Wade’s bagel was the only real disappointment.
