Live Thread: Cavs @ Kings
2022-11-09Good evening CtB!
The Cavs have ventured up Interstate 5 to Sactown to take on the Kings in some late night NBA action. The Cavs are looking to reset after snatching defeat from the jaws of victory against the Clippers. The Kings have been playing some OK ball since their slow start:
Hello Cleveland it’s Game Time, Cavs want to bounce back after an usual ending to the Clippers game.Sacramento, Coached by ex Cav, Mike Brown, starting to play good basketball after a 0-4 start.
— Austin Carr (@MrCavalier34) November 10, 2022
The Cavs come into the game relatively healthy with Ricky Rubio and Dylan Windler the only two players expected out. Apparently Windler needed some kind of injection for his ankle that will sideline him at least a month. It’s truly sad to see Windler become a meme player at this point.
ICYMI: #Cavs Dylan Windler is set to have a PRP injection in his achy ankle, which could sideline him for about a month, sources say — another cruel twist in a career derailed by injurieshttps://t.co/sMzhPgu9FT

As for the game itself, the Cavs would do well to take advantage of the Kings’ porous defense, ranked 6th worst in defensive efficiency. The Cavs will have to contend with a decent Sacramento offense, but it should be no match for Cleveland’s elite defense.
Tip off is scheduled for 10:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio, Go Cavs!

It’s going to be all right
spida and garland play together for 5 min in each half.. period.. then they run their own shows with their preferred group.. spida really don’t need garland on the floor with him.. and garland did wuite well running his own show last year.. i think the “they gotta play together as a pair.. “spida-land” ain;t ready for primetime.. may never be., there is an embarrassment of talent riches between them.. they are getting in each other’s way. if they get it together, fine.. but spida is a SUPERSTAR.. he was winning games as THE man.. why on earth are you… Read more »
good post buck, except I’d argue that forcing SpidaLand minutes now especially in crunch time scenarios is the move if the goal is for them to be at their best in the spring. Some losses will just have to be accepted for the sake of development I guess is the plan.
It’s probably a good sign they’ve finally reached this point of development so early in the season.
i have no problem with spida closing the games, who would.. the dude is a monster.. with garland as an adjunct, if needed..
we had an 8 game losing streak — that included 3 OT wins and other close games — luck was on our side. Now we have a two game losing streak, both close, one a refereeing disaster. Not quite time to panic.
i am not panicking, raoul bro, i am concerned.. i just see no reason to force “spida-land”.. that is just asking for square pegs to obliterate round holes.. i am a taoist.. the water-course way.. make it easy.. i think these guys like and respect each other, but i don’t think they need to play with each other 80% of the time..
Its early but a few things of note Mitchell runs this team now and he’s the one star that keeps them afloat Cavs gotta make a move or fleece a bumbling team’s mgmt in moving away from Cedi/Okoro/Stevens and getting a legit wing player….throw in any extra draft picks…its just dead weight and when, not if, injuries hit and those three gotta play heavy minutes this team is screwed As much as we hype Garland/Mobely/Allen they are still a rung or two below DM and while that’s not a bad thing its been noticeable already this year. Do we need… Read more »
good post Leo, for sure DG/Mobley/JA are NBA babies, they need time to develop… hard to remember that when so much success is happening.
Amen on the rotation thing, especially in that back to back scenario.
So Leo, are you writing off Wade? I read somewhere that even within the organization there was a lot of support initially for Wade over LeVert as starting 3 and I’m still holding out hope JB will see the light at some point. LeVert been solid overall defensively but I think a lot of the problem with allowing teams to run up the score in the first halves of games would go away if they started Wade and also upped his minutes from 15ish to a consistent 25-30. Basically he’s one of the 3 best defenders on the roster (excluding… Read more »
hell yeah thanks for the post Windmill! Go Cavs!
Glad I missed the second half.

Wish JB wouldn’t trot guys out there not 100% at this point in the season. And they are definitely in for some downers when DG/DM play due to the lack of chemistry, takes time.
Sure didn’t look 100%. I had a really crappy cold (non covid illness) for two+ weeks, and I sure wouldn’t have wanted to be hooping during that.
my cold is slowly going away after four weeks. it really takes your energy away – although when I was younger playing ball seemed to cure colds.
i didn’t get colds when i was 21.. and if i had the sniffles, i could still bring it on my favorite pinball machine with a cold pitcher next to me..
Either Neto is injured, JB is a genius for saving him for the back stretch of the trip, or JB has no faith in him (which surely beggars belief).
Which is it?
If you’re moving DG to the bench you might as well trade him for a wing. Yeah. If he is the problem, a real problem with a DG/DM pairing then the whole DM/DG idea was ridiculous. It’s not. But this team isn’t a world beater yet (who actually thought they were after 10 games?!!!). People should stop overreacting to single games in the regular season. Single games mean nothing. Trends in 5 games might. Trends in 10 games do. Let’s see how things shake out with say an actual sample that means something, say 20 games out of a 82… Read more »
Its not really a hot take to say the team performed better without garland than it has with him. Thats just objectively true. It doesnt make garland bad. Its just that they had a 7 game long identity developing without him, and he is an objectively worse defender than wade/okoro etc. I think we will find another identity…but we havent yet and it shows in defense. The whole team was confused on d this game. It was evident.
Correct.
16 to 4 stocks in favor of the Kings. One team was playing defense, the other wasn’t.
Just growing pains. Garland and Mitchell not working great together yet.
zero blocks from Tower City… garbage.
Levert stuffed the box score but man did he screw us in the 4th
Bench player.
Dont we have 2 bench players that could have saved his legs tho? Cedi got 15 and is easily good for 20. And stevens who I think you dont like is also good for a game like this where we need d and actual strength to finish at the rim. Give him 5 mins on the first half of a game we are struggling with both those things.
He kept us in the game through most of four quarters.
And JB took that as a sign to run him into the ground instead of using a pretty Proven bench
Or he took that as a sign to ride the hot hand.
We’ve seen this already with JB… he rides whoever is playing well on the night.
Even with 18 turnovers we still had more field goal attempts than them.. but just bad defense..
Outplayed us overall…from 3… 17-39.. from the bench.. better on their turnovers…
I love the kid, but I feel like every time DG was in the game the Cavs looked like crap. The ball was best in Donovan and Claris’s hands
I was being mostly silly
JB should’ve played Neto in this game, 40 minutes for MItchell and Caris is insane,
Felt like he didn’t trust him against Davion Mitchell.
which is dumb they’re exact same player LMFAO
Davion much stronger.
I really feel like the Cavs would’ve won this if they’d benched DG for Wade
Cavs need to move Caris or Garland to the bench.
Uh…explain?
Not enough d on the lineup, too many ball handlers.
i may regret this take later…but too many ball handlers is like saying too many shooters. It’s not a valuable critique. what overlapping skillsets matter in that scenario? I assume you mean ball dominant guys, not ball handlers maybe? Cuz in the end that seems to be a coaching problem more than a player problem. Caris is a pretty good spot up shooter and DG is a fantastic spot up shooter.
Garland isn’t going to the bench…
Obv.
13 more free throws for Kings LMFAO
The worse is staying up late for these losses.. just sucks..
No one on this planet is a bigger DG fan than me, but this was one of his worst games in a long while…
defense trash two games in a row
And another offensive rebound ..
That’s the dagger right there.. another drive and kick..
Hooo boy
Just too many turnovers, not enough stops…adds up to an L…
Ridiculous pass monk.
Another paint point.. but guards are getting in the lane at ease.
Jarrett clutch. Fox flop.
Growing pains
They are getting to the lane at will.. sigh .. 17 turnovers for the Cavs
17 turnovers…although that one was bullshit…
18 points off of turnovers for the Kings.. we are just giving away our game.
43-19 advantage from the bench for the Kings.
When last did we get a stop ?
Since being up 105-99 at the 8 min mark, they have basically scored every time down the floor, either straight up; on an offensive rebound or a foul by us.. we need to do better.. it’s so frustrating!
Dirty Barnes
That’s a foul…
I’d consider subbing out Garland.
We need to defend and stop fouling.. again and again.. come on man
GREAT CUT MOBLEY
Mitchell Insurance Inc.
MITCHELL CLUTCH
Davion Mitchell so strong.
Donovan stronger
AWFUL REBOUNDING
CARIS CLUTCH
Caris!
Sex I for levert plz!
We don’t need another clippers game rerun with fouls leading to free throws and ultimately the lead.
