Live Thread: Cavs @ Pistons
2022-11-27Good evening CtB!
The Cavs have traversed to the western shores of Lake Erie to take on the Detroit Pistons in what is essentially a glorified B-team scrimmage. Both teams are missing key pieces of their rotations and will be forced to some little used lineups and players theoretically. Coach J.B. Bickerstaff will probably buck conventional wisdom and roll with 6-man rotation given his penchant for emulating Thibs. #FreeNeto #FreeDiakite #FreeIsaiahMobley
The Pistons have been a total flop this year, with some people thinking that they’d be a young team that could make a leap. Instead they find themselves in the Wembanyama/Henderson sweepstakes. They are friskier on the offensive end than defensive end, so the Cavs will need to make sure they’re playing good defense to win.
#Cavs J.B. Bickerstaff said both Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert are out tonight against the Pistons.

The Cavs will be without Love, Caris, Stevens, and Allen. The Pistons will be without Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, Isaiah Stewart, and Bojan Bogdanovic. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio, Go Cavs!
LT up!

Raps rank first in steals; Cavs rank 29th. Going to have to control the TO’s tonight.
Raps 3.5 point favorites tonight
RAPTORS WILL CRASH THE BOARDS HARD AND OFTEN—-CAVS NEED TO BE READY TO BOX OUT// GO FOR THE BALL ON EVERY FRIGGIN SHOT !!!
OR SHOULD IT BE—–BORROWING FROM TIM MISNEY—–” I WILL MAKE THEM PAY ” :-)
DO NOT MESS WITH SPIDA OR HIS TEAMMATES—-YOU WILL PAY THE PRICE
WTF —CAVS HAVE SOME KIND OF “INJURY VIRUS “—3-A-KITE JUST JOINS THE TEAM AND HE IS INJURED–WTF—WAS LOOKING FOR HIM TO GET SOME SOLID MIN’S—WTF
Think we see some Isaiah Mobley next game?

Bleh…
Diakite also out
Thank goodness we get Caris back, he’s sorely missed.
Just getting thru the replay. Hayes shoving Mobley around and being a punk, so Mitchell pulls up, hits a 3 in his face and discusses with Hayes how that must have felt. Friggin’ love the dude, and this team.

It’s a healthy perspective. The weight of expectations can be a big source of frustration watching Cavs from game to game. Let’s hope those numbers hold. I’d be curious to see a deep dive analysis on Mobley. Really feels like he’s taken some steps back, but wonder how much of that is just from hyping him up too much in our minds.
Yeah me too. I don’t think it’s just us hyping him, it’s also the national media. I think he can become great.
Mobley:
2021/22: 15.0/8.3/2.5; 50.8/25.0/66.3
2022/23: 14.8/8.8/2.4; 54.8/26.7/68.5
Hard to see a step back there. Shooting splits all up slightly. Rebounds up. PPG/APG down a smidge, but with less FGA (12.0 to 11.1), which is expected with Mitchell around.
Now, not a giant oeap forward, either. But FG% up fron just under 51% to almost 55% is significant for me.
Mobley’s defensive metrics are the main issue… He’s improved slightly on the offensive end at the expensive of making plays on defense.
Anybody proclaiming big leaps from Mobley this season were fooling themselves, personally expect him to break out with a big leap next season or the season after that.
Yeah, I wasn’t even expecting a leap. This is all just eye-test / observational on my part, but defensively it felt like he was everywhere last season. This season guys saunter by and its like he just glances at them and lets them go. Wondering if he got burnt out the first half of the season last year, and is now trying to pace himself.
yeah, I’d say his defense has been on a downward trajectory since 2nd half of last year… I’ll try and dig thru some stats see what I can find.
REPLYING TO CLF —MOBES SHOOTS “LINE DRIVES “—TOO MUCH WRIST IN HIS SHOOTING MECHANICS NOT ENOUGH UPWARD EXTENSION TO SMOOTH SHOT OUT// GIVE IT “SOME AIR ” —-LIKE GIANNIS MENTIONED —–IT IS UP TO HIM HOW GOOD HE WANTS TO BECOME—-HOPE HE TAKES GIANNNISS’S ADVICE —” WORKS HIS ASS OFF “
There’s ugly wins, and then there are wins against a team tanking. 27 minutes for Bagley when he was owning Mobley was a pretty egregious example of coaching to lose.
What stat suggests “tank win” best? Fourteen total team assists, and Garland had ten of them. That is a bad offensive effort–was the ball as stuck as that stat suggests? Next best stat: Garland and Mitchell shoot 13-42 (31%)–how did they survive that? Yes, Nate, the only evidence they might not be tanking is they employed a serviceable backup point guard (Joseph). Usually, that role is missing–and a true empty-calorie shooter is present–in a true tank effort.
He’s only playing cause the tank backup guard, Hayes, had to start.
Detroit is NOT tanking. You don’t sign, and then extend, Bogdonavic, in a tank effort. They are just are missing a bunch of guys.
Hayes is like Okoro in a way. He is a high lotto pick (6th?) that has been surpassed by Case & Ivey so now does not start. He has not been good but they want to figure out if there is enough there for him to turn into a serviceable backup or not. Gotta play him to find out.
You can certainly tank and trade for and extend a player when you’re $40 Mil under the cap next year. It’s really a one year extension since only $2 Mil is guaranteed in 24-25. They’re not even to the floor on next year’s projected salary. (Yes, they have 97 Mil in cap hold projections, but they’re far below that). This idea that Bogdanovich’s contract would keep them from tanking seems far fetched.
The Celtics only have 1 loss at home, and it’s against the Cavs!
DAMN FORGOT THE CAVS PLAYED TONIGHT —–WILL WATCH REPLAY TOMORROW—GOOD WIN WITHOUT ALOT OF KEY PLAYERS —3 -A-KITE WITH SOME NICE MIN’S AND ALSO LOOKED LOIKE ICE HAD ANOTHER SOLID GAME
I’ll take it.
Diakite and Neto were huge tonight, fixed the game after the starters left it in shambles first quarter. Cedi and Okoro led the team in plus/minus
Caris and Cedi are good buddies looks like, that’s very sweet
Although not a super consistent player, Caris is a good dude.
3 seconds ,give the bench some run
Sounds like no Siakum tomorrow
Good night motor city.
UGLY WINS ARE SO BEAUTIFUL
I Second That Emotion.
DG with double figure dimes on a poor shooting night and only 2 TOs. Mitchell only 9/23 but still got 32 (12/13 FTs) and was real good in the 4th (14 pts). All of the bench guys had good nights. Mobley & Wade & Okoro all made 4th quarter 3s. And Neto & Diakite got to play some.
Free throw shooting enormous in this one.
This is how Trae Young likes to win… from the FT line.
Harvesting FTs tonight
And we needed each free throw cause we barely scored otherwise.
DM didn’t have his best shooting game, but still has 30+ points..
14 pts in the 4th on 4-6 FGs and 2-3 3pt + FTs.
Was huge in the 4th staying aggressive and scrapping.
Pretty sure DM walked… but let’s go !!!!
Yeah but got fouled too.
Okoro has been good tonight.
Yes, solid!
playing a lot of 4 in this game.
Yep. He is getting better.
Cavs got another point?
Mitchell shot changed to a 3
LETS GOOOOOO SPIDA STEP BACK JACK
Sick
JFC Mobley
$ Mitchell
Mobley shoots line drives.
