Live Thread: Cavs @ Thunder

The Cavs have traveled to Sooner State to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder as the Cavs wrap up their road back to back. Ricky Rubio, Donovan Mitchell, and Kevin Love won’t be available, and the Thunder have a winning record at home. This would low key be a great win if the Cavs are able to pull it off.
What to expect from the Thunder? They want to push the pace on offense, and they are a top 10 defense in spite of the fact that they are the worst defensive rebounding team in the NBA. The Cavs should look to control the pace of the game, and crash the glass on offense.
Tip off is scheduled for 8:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio, Go Cavs!

Teams sitting their stars against us just makes me more nervous for the game since Cavs tend to play down and disappoint us in these games.. even at home like against GSW.

Welp, kinda wish I’d checked the live thread before watching the 2nd half replay. Another turd laid by this team. When Mitchell plays, he carries the majority of the clutch-time scoring load. There is no elevation of team play. The poor team play we see regularly down the stretch that his performances paper over are exposed when he’s in street clothes. That’s really accurate.
100% agree about Mitchell, he’s a transcendent superstar and a closer. But think about this, where will the play of DG and Mobley be when they’re 26, that’s three more seasons for DG and five for Evan. They’ll likely be every bit the closers Donovan is
and we won’t have to wait until they’re 26, today’s pains are the steps every superstar takes.

This game feels another in a long line where the Cavs had an opportunity to extend a lead from 7 to maybe 13/14, but they can’t and instead they give it right back within about two minutes. Also, this bench unit has been so uninspiring this year compared to last year where they actually provided a jolt of energy at times, this year they can only manage the bare minimum. in fact, “not extending the lead, and giving it back” happens about 100 times per game.

I don’t know about the rest of you but I see a lot of red flags with this team. The issues seem to be generally dismissed by the media, like they will be resolved next year, for some reason. I’m not buying it. This team is average, and I’m not seeing much room for improvement without some major trades, and changes to leadership.
Top 3 net rating in the NBA, sub .600 record and outside the top 5 in league standings.

Who would you trade places with? Memphis maybe, but I don’t think Ja is going to last long unfortunately and they got some guys that are going to want paid. Plus they’re a bunch of cocky assholes. OKC is in a good place, but they’re nowhere near us now or our ceiling. The Bucks are old and in pure win now or bust mode, Philly? God no. Boston, yeah maybe, but we’ll be passing them soon enough

Sounds like we’ve got JB till the end of the year. I’m assuming the front office wants to see how he can get the team to perform in the playoffs. The Cavs are likely a first round exit under this leadership, unless they can grab a 3/4 seed. Anyway, I’m waiting for next year when JB is fired.
JB is far from perfect, along with every other coach in the NBA. The priority is to develop DG and Mobley to realize their potential and to bring Okoro along as well. He is doing that. The Cavs culture is amongst the best in the league, where a super star like Donovan buys in and is happy. That’s on JB and Koby too. Winning a game in Oklahoma City in January doesn’t mean shit in the long view. Letting these kids learn is what’s important.
Only issue is the timeline move up when Mitchell was traded. They are no longer a development team. It may seem like a long window but it isn’t. This team needs to accelerate quickly. This year and two more before DM’s has a player option and can opt out. He turns 30 as a small hyper athletic guard in four years. I don’t expect him to age like curry.
