Live Thread: Knicks @ Cavs, NBA Playoffs Game 5

The Cavs welcome the New York Knicks to the shores of Lake Erie to stave off elimination from the 2023 NBA Playoffs and send this series back to New York and add pressure to the Knicks to close the series. The two main stories of the series has been the putrid offense and defensive rebounding of the Cavs to this point. The Cavs have shot the second fewest threes among playoff teams and have made only 31% of the attempts. Somehow the Knicks have been a worse three point shooting team, but make up for it with their hustle on the offensive glass.
The Cavs’ shooting stinks in general from the field because the Knicks are constantly packing the paint with all five defenders to prevent attempts at the rim. If the Cavs want to get to game six, they need to start bombing away from three… particularly Darius Garland, Caris LeVert, and Donovan Mitchell. That’s how they won game two, and that’s the only way to get the Knicks to stop collapsing to the paint on defense. Also in that game, Danny Green played 20 minutes. Coach J.B. Bickerstaff might want to think about riding him to space the floor.

The Suns owner apparently hates Dan Gilbert (and vice versa). Apparently, the Suns owner is also from Detroit, and has a top mortgage company. He claims Gilbert has done things the wrong way in running his mortgage company (which I don’t know what that means?).

So funny rewatching that sequence— Steph 100% was planning to come around a Draymond screen and get the pass back from Poole to take an open 28-footer which for Steph is like a FT. Then you can see both him and Dray stop moving and react in real-time like, “oh this dumb mf’s shooting, game over.” 🤦🏽♂️😂

In all fairness, Steph would have missed like he does anytime he takes an important shot.
Lakers were definitely going to send two bodies his way again, AD (who was just below the 3 pt line on that side) plus one of the original double-team would have chased him around the screen

Poole is just a disaster…even when he hit threes, he gives it all back in every other aspect of the game…what a terrible contract that is.
He reminds me of gilbert arenas’ swagger with Sasha Pavlovic’s success. A couple games of stardom and a season’s full of lack.

At the start of this game, the commentators reminded me that both Lebron and Curry had won four titles. The conversation has always been “Who’s the greatest, Michael or Lebron?” (Michael at this point), but if Curry ends up with more titles than Lebron in the same era, how could Lebron even be in the conversation as the greatest? A lot on the line in this contest. I’m rooting for Lebron.

Offensive rebounding always seems to be the big difference maker in the playoffs. Remember how valuable TT was (at times).
I have a hard time thinking of anyone in his league for that award. That said Davis has destroyed him this game

For me it’s more about the Laker fans. Lebron doesn’t matter to me either way.
Yeah I can’t stand the Heat fans, or used to strongly dislike them, but I’m rooting for the Heat to beat NY, probably because I’m salty after what I just witnessed.

Yep. He spent his second stint with the cavs because he loved cleveland and not at all because the east was a cakewalk by comparison to the west and he could call most of the personell shots
It’s not like he was in the West and came to the East.
both times the Cavs were pretty much out of assets, and would not likely be getting to the finals, so it was for the better in the big picture.
And the current Cavs exist because he left. Both times he left they got top picks that turned into great players. Kyrie was part of the 2016 Championship, hit the winning shot. He doesn’t join the Cavs if Lebron is limping them along. You should know the rest.
^^^^More to Scotch than Raoul who I think feels the same way. And I’d rather have to deal with arguments about Lebron being GOAT than Curry or anyone else currently playing that’s not on the Cavs.

He should’ve played more TBH, Spo took him out and the Knicks went on a run… couldn’t though because Love was gassed.

Fun playoff game to play: when Embiid is back, count how many times he’s on the floor during a game and compare to how many times that, say, Jokic is on the floor.
Yeah, nice not to have to watch Embiid flopping, and even Harden for once was just looking to hit shots late in the game (at least down the stretch), not going out of his way to bait for fouls like usual.
