Live Thread: Cavs @ Thunder

The Cavs have traversed to the Sooner State to take on the ascending Oklahoma City Thunder in what shapes up to be a sneaky big game between two teams looking to legitimize themselves as the elite of the NBA. Chet Holmgren punked Evan Mobley in their first matchup, as the Cavs took the L against the Thunder at home 105-108. It’s time for the Cavs to serve some payback.
Isaac Okoro, Sam Merrill, and Ty Jerome are all out for tonight, but Jarrett Allen and Darius Garland are all systems go. The Thunder are pretty much 100% healthy. What do the Cavs need to do to get a win? Get their crappy offense on track. Currently they’re 27th ranked offense in the NBA, which won’t get it done against the Thunder’s high powered offense. They also need to grab rebounds. They’re currently bottom 5 in the NBA at defensive rebounding rate. Both of these stats should improve with the presence of DG and JA, and with the big win against the Golden State Warriors last game, they should be poised to improve those numbers.
Tip off is scheduled for 8:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio, Go Cavs!

Overall it feels like this teams ceiling will continued to be limited at times when the only player 6-5 and above who can create their own shot is LeVert. Strus is a solid ball handler but is not really going to create one on one. Okoro and Wade can’t or won’t do it. There just no bigger “connector type player” between the guards and front court. Garland and Mitchell look like they have to expend so much energy to make the offense function consistently and that’s tough when your smaller.
Wings! the most important position in basketball! (unless you are the greatest shooter of all time in Steph Curry)
Absent a lotto pick we aren’t getting a good wing. Gotta make do with a platoon until Emoni gets good
Wow Garland had EIGHT turnovers…rough
Most of them were moronic.
The most maddening to me was coming back despite the turnovers and then watching the thunder cook Niang like a fat goose four straight plays.
It would be easier if we just sucked and got cooked. So much of it is fixable, it’s just not there yet in a complete package.
Niang has been legit good and earned more minutes but against a bouncy team like OKC, iono.
Thinking basically first halves need to be all JA and Garland. Mobley starts out so weird.
Garland was shit to start.
Yeah he was today but it that’s execution. He needs to come out aggressive one way or another and get other guys activated or score himself. Mitchell can’t open and close every game.
Turnovers need solved, will come with time. FTs were weird as hell. Just no continuity yet
…probably could have used Ice a little. Just a really funky loss. At least made it competitive at the end
Cavs found ways to beat themselves.

Cavs shoot 50% in this game but missed 10 free throws, have 18 turnovers was the game.

This crunch time is 100% on JB. Thunder hunted Niang the last four possessions and scored. Dude should never have been on the floor.
