Live Thread: Raptors @ Cavs
2023-11-26The Cavs welcome the Toronto Raptors as they face off on the shores of Lake Erie in a sneakily important Eastern Conference battle. Both of these teams have not beaten the fraud charges as the Cavs continue to stink on offense and on the boards. Toronto has actually improved their ball movement on offense and are a solid rebouding team. Frankly the Cavs should be embarrassed that they look worse than a team many NBA fans think should liquidate their assets and tank. One of the dumbest phenomenons among Cavs fans is believing this team is better without Donovan Mitchell, who’s the only reason why the Cavs are even afloat after a murderer’s row of opponents that won’t let up until after New Year’s. Those idiotic Cavs fans may get their wish if this team continues to underachieve and Mitchell starts developing a wandering eye.
Another contender for dumbest takes across Cavs’ fandom is the belief that Georges Niang is an upgrade over the dearly departed Kevin Love. Love is playing at a fringe starter level while Georges Niang should be punching his ticket to Chinese Basketball League:
Love remains one of the best defensive rebounders in the NBA and an above average passer, while Niang is merely a slightly above average rebounder and complete clogged toilet on offense. Now would be a good time for the broken down Minivan to get his shit together and start earning that top 175 NBA money.
Since it might seem unfair to target the 9th best player on the roster for criticism, how about Jarrett Allen and Darius Garland stop underachieving as well? DG is getting paid max money and having the same impact as a fringe starter, and slumming around the likes of Golden Turd. Jarrett Allen continues to get absolutely punked on the defensive glass:
You know what would cure these post-Thanksgiving blues? A big blow out against the LeBronto Raptors. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio, Go Cavs!

Good stuff in this thread, spidaland good, tower city stinks
Let’s check back on this one later in the year. The defensive rating in particular makes no sense based on past performance.
I think it does, when you’re that bad on offense you’re probably giving up a lot of easy buckets in transition or at least getting caught in scrambled mismatches.
Yeah so many of those minutes are first game back from injury minutes. We are mucky and shitty now and underperforming. We disagree as to cause (fire JB! be tuff! moar wings! moar reps! no CPJ! too much CPJ! no TT! etc) but there’s a lot of drags on the roster and vibes are off
Mobley almost always comes out looking bad in these +/- analyses. The upcoming max offer is looking at least slightly scary imo. It will be interesting to see what happens with the top 3 from the 2021 draft. Mobley still clears Cade and Jalen I think, but nobody is lighting it up.
Mobley easily clears those two bums….. his main competition is Franz and Scottie for best in class. Jalen Johnson and Jalen Suggs have made leaps this year I’d take both of those guys over Green/Cade.
Forgot about Sengun, he belongs among the top of the class too.
Think no brainer maxes on the top 4 and Wagner
maxing Cade and Green is certainly a no-brainer move, as in the GMs have no brain if they did that.
Ironically, Mobley and JA’s plus/minus are identical -0.2 on the season. Not worried about the max for Mobley… his defense is so good and he has tools on offense passing and ballhanding that make the risk worth it.
Big positive so far this season, Even Mobley FT% 76.7, that would be huge if he can sustain that or keep it around 75% (last year was 67.4%)
His jumper was looking great last night, too bad it spiraled for him on offense after a hot start.
Mobley has not really mastered relaxing on his shot as he goes up. So when he fights through a bunch of defenders in the post and puts up a short turnaround, his shot still has all kinds of tension and it’s just flat and clunky. But the little slides to the foul line where he gets it from Strus are so free and easy and just look a million times better, even if they’re a few feet further out. That ability to relax after contact is really what makes Mitchell so good. He can go hard and bounce and leap… Read more »
I really like how Strus has added to the up-the-ladder passing game. Where now we’re seeing plays that go DG -> Strus -> Mobley -> Allen dunks. So much easier than direct lobs from the point guard.
Toronto kept having Barnes out on the perimeter on DG. Not sure if Cavs got that via switches or what, but DG can blow by Barnes pretty easily.
Cavs are pretty banged up, so great to come out with a win on the back to back.
A few thoughts while looking through the box score: The obvious one: This has to be the biggest free throw disparity I have ever seen in a game. 29 to 6? Keep in mind that 1 those 6 was a technical free throw and 2 of them were from an end-of-game, intentional foul on Mitchell. So the Cavs took 3 free throws aside from that? They attempted 97 field goals (over 50 of them in the paint) and were fouled on 2 of them? Absolutely insane. I can’t fathom how the Raptors missed 52 field goal attempts, and Jaret Allen… Read more »
Think have to think differently about JA/Evan rebounds, because depending on scheme one of them is switched out to perimeter.
Lost rebound battle 50-49 and Strus and Mobley had double figures. Really liking Strus and others trying to gang rebound
I’ve definitely been happy with Strus as a rebounder (and overall).
100%… JA’s defensive rebounding needs to improve, got owned by Jakob Peoltl all night long. -13 says it all.
JUST WATCHED REPLAY—-GOOD “W”——-TT WITH MUCH NEEDED TOUGHNESS—-SAY GOOD RIDDANCE TO JONES/ BRING UP ELDER——WHY NO CPJ LAST NIGHT——- MIGHT BE AT THE HAWKS GAME THIS TUESDAY/ WILL BE THE GUY WITH THE BEER 🍺 BEING ESCORTED OUT WITH THE BEAUTIFUL MRS NOMAD CHEERING THEM ON 🤪
Foul disparity was annoying, but appreciated the flow, esp early, when game was not stopping for free throws on every second or third possession.
No one was godawful (though it took DM awhile to escape that bucket), and everyone contributed
Trade Mitchell agenda gets another little boost.
Koby’s offseason — Strus, Niang and Porter/Bates (even tho they didn’t play tonight) — looking better and better.
I am far from sold on the idea.
If we do trade DM, hopefully when he is playing real good, say at this years deadline, what do you think the Cavs would get for him?
Avery Bradley and Jae Crowder
been looking for them everywhere!
that would be better than what we got for the flat earther: Isiah Back-up-the-Brink’s-Truck, and Crowder!
Georges with top +/- once again
Whew! A win despite a stinker from Spida & JA foul trouble. Good DG game. JA good when in. Some nice big to big & Mobley D late. Pretty nice Niang game.
Strus
Yes.
And worth repeating- it was nice to see some of Allen’s fouls being hard fouls.
Cavs save Ohio from completely shitting the bed this weekend
Columbus Crew 2: Orlando 0.
Good D by the Cavs. Poorly designed play by the Raps.
Much needed win!
Very important win for this ballclub.
Good timeout. Take no chances.
Hey, man, TO out of a TO is a thing for us.
I just emant advancing it to half court.
Id put Ice out there on Defense just saying
hell no he doesn’t rebound.
Yes.
Nice work JA.
Great D. Game.
Raps gonna pick on TT for a three.
Hopefully JB does not go with 3 Cs again here.
NO THREES!
Lol
TT
Do. Not. Let. Them. Get. A. Three. Off. Foul. Them.
Guard the 3 point line
105-101 would be a lot more comfortable.
Lol Donovan.
DM the keep away champion
DM to the line
Execute!
Horrible defense there!
How do u give up a three there?
How is Schroeder wide open for a 3?
Get a stop!
Darius flushes the Raps!
Ehhhhhhh
Just the ball swirling around the rim… Lol
LOL. I saw this as Schroeder was draining that wide open 3. Just meant ehhhh not so sure the Raptors have been flushed.
Yeah. I was worried about the jinx.
Our late game offense needs work man
D as well. Cannot give up a three there. Guard the line there. WTF?
Just a bad decision by Strus
Slow Toilet bowl roll for DG!
DG!!!
I’d like to see more of tonight’s DG.
Lmcao
You make your own luck.
Crucial bucket JA
Ridiculous 29 FTs for the Craptors and only 4 for the Cavs
