2024-01-22Happy Monday, Cavs fans. The wine and gold travel to Orlando tonight and takes on a 23-20 Magic squad. With their size, The Magic aren’t a great match-up for the Cavs, but the Cavs have been taking care of business against .500 teams, so we’ll see what happens.
For Cleveland, LeVert is questionable, and Mobley, Garland, and, Jerome are out.

Think fit and skill, not individual production. X is a strong rim protector/good positional defender, keeps the ball moving on offense (pretty good assist man), and a great screener like TT.
All in, that’s a skill set that would really enhance a bench unit with three shooters.

I think we could steal one but don’t think there are any lessons for us from the next three games. Either way we are 3-3 over a tough 6 at worst.

Playing with only 12 (effectively) on the roster is just dumb.
the weeks leading up to the trading deadline are not a smart time to abandon assets.
What assets? We aren’t abandoning anyone. We don’t have to cut anyone. We have an open roster spot.
We have 14 rostered. Mobley & Garland are out. TT is suspended. That’s 11. Jerome hasn’t played all year. Ten. Jones is useless. Nine. And LeVert is out. Eight. Even counting CPJ, that puts us at 9 with one playable big (Allen).
It is light in a race where a game or two could impact seeding.
Further, we have next to no trade capital. We cannot trade a 1st. And given how we are playing, it would be VERY odd to trade anyone in the rotation (DG, DM, MS, EM, JA; CPJ, SM, CL, IO, DW, GN, TT).
That leaves Jerome & Jones. Who have no value. Maybe you get rid of TT, but he had low value before he was suspended. Most teams have 35-40 or so left, he is suspended for 25.
Do we have a trade exception from Rubio?
EVERYBODY has value in a trade. recall the salary matching rules.
It might just be a timing thing. They are on the road, maybe just logistics
An open roster spot in and of itself is valuable heading into the trade deadline. I’m sure they’ll fill it eventually, after the subsequent buyouts

Teams always come out firing the game after a coach is dumped. Plus I imagine that they’ll want to make up for that last laugher. Hope the Cavs can weather that storm.

You are not wrong. DiViCenzo & Matthews were also good defenders and gone. Beasley is not much of a defender. Crowder’s been out. Lopez is older. Middleton has been out and nursing a bum leg. He has slowed down/does not play as much.

Cavaliers center Tristan Thompson has been suspended for 25 games by the NBA, the league announced today in a press release (Twitter link).
According to the NBA, Thompson violated the terms of the league’s anti-drug program by testing positive for ibutamoren and SARM LGD-4033. Both drugs are on the list of prohibited substances in the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, under the “steroids and performance enhancing drugs” section.

Lowey, 37, 8.2, 3.5, 4.0.
Lowry is smarter & might still be a better defender, but that is a big gap in productivity. Miami needed scoring & they got it. They got better.
Yeah I think for me question is whether Terry is a difference maker or just an innings eater at PG that fills the aforementioned productivity gap.
Lowry was not very productive, at all. He has logged over 1,000 minutes. So he has been a available. But 8/3.5/4 in 28 mpg just isn’t very productive. The splits are OK-ish: 42.6/38.5 for a 58.2 TS%.
Rozier is playing 35.8 mpg and giving you 23.2/3.9/6.6 on 45.9/35.8 for a 57.4 TS%.
Rozier, Herro, Butler, and Bam is 4/5ths of a very good 5. Jovic is nada.
For comparison:
A: 28.3 mpg, 8.2/3.5/4.0, 42.6/38.5, 58.2 TS.
B: 16.5 mpg, 7.3/2.8/3.3, 51.3/33.3, 55.9 TS.
A makes over $29 mil a year. B is a two way.

Gotta admit I shrugged when I saw his score. Never gonna happen in playoffs.
I mean, of course if a team sees an avenue for scoring in any particular game, push it. But if you’re a playoff-bound team and you know your main guy can score plenty, you should be providing opportunities for others to develop. That’s the main reason I get a little uncomfortable when Cavs get Spida iso heavy.

Going into the stands is pretty dumb, but as dumb stuff + two game suspensions go, I can live with this, not least because is is something that me or the NOMAD might have done when we were that age.
Part of the reason the plan was basically to redshirt him for two years was to basically teach him to be a pro. He will learn from it.
