Live Thread: Cavs @ Hawks

The Cavs have traversed to the Georgia Piedmont to take on the Atlanta Hawks in a key Eastern Conference matchup. It’s an opportunity for the Cavs to pick up a solid if unspectacular road win against a play-in conference opponent and expand their league-leading win streak to seven games. Also with a win, the Cavs can secure the series win for the season against Atlanta. For the Hawks, it’s a chance to notch a big win against a top opponent while also expanding their win streak to four games.
Statistically speaking, the Hawks’ offense will provide a stern test for the Cavs’ defense, while the the Hawks’ defense is an opportunity for the Cavs’ offense to light up the scoreboard and build momentum on that end of the court. What’s driving the Cavs’ recent success? The ole’ calculator says it’s simply rebounding and passing the ball better. The Cavs have gone from one of the worst rebounding teams in the NBA to a top 10 overall rebounding team. The Cavs’ assist ratio ranking has gone from bottom half of the NBA to top half since the start to season. Whenever the Cavs are winning the board and assist battle, they are usually winning the game. As Coach J.B. Bickerstaff loves to say about Cavalier basketball, it’s whoever the most unselfish and most competitive team that will win the game. Hopefully that continues against an Atlanta team that doesn’t rebound or pass the ball all that well.

KD had 40 on 18/25 FGs. Beal had a good night, 11 for 16. Booker cool at 9 for 24.
Those 3 have to really carry the scoring load. Grayson Allen & Nurkic are 4th & 5th. Allen got double digits but Nurk had 4 and the bench only had 9.
None of their top 5 are really good defenders, either. Durant is ok. Nurkic has good size.

Allen should have hit that open crossing route instead of going for the end zone. The whole idea was to score slow, not fast. He is kinda a dumbass sometimes.

Yeah I hate to say it but Ice “seems” better as a starter. Cavs have the longest winning streak currently. The Cavs lead the league in 3-point attempts per game since the Garland and Mobley injuries. They’re second in made 3s. They’re sixth in assists since Dec. 16, the day after Garland and Mobley were ruled out. They were 25th in the league before those injuries.
I feel like it’s sustainable. I think Allen and Mobley will probably be a little starved of FGA depending on matchups but I think it’s OK in long run and having Okoro and Wade 3PAs going to Garland should be amazing

Dude…ME and ME and ALL MY FRIENDS! They suck with DG and Spida. They are great when one of the guards are out. Cuz its the regular season and it doesnt matter. When the playoffs come again and JB has to make it work with two short ball dominant guards we will get smoked again. Nothing has changed (holy hell I am depressing myself).
