Podcap: Cavs 114, Wizards 105 (or, Out of Hibernation)
2024-02-26Chris Francis and Elijah Kim traversed to the CtB Podcast resort studios to touch base after a long winter slumber that saw the Cavs wrap up their best stretch of basketball in the post-LeBron era. The Cavs finally get out of their post-All-Star Break slump to collect an ugly win against the Washington Wizards 114-105, which saw the Cavs come thru in the clutch after a stinky first half. The Korean Brotherhood quick caps the Wizards game, and touch on the Cavs’ trade deadline, and the NBA landscape post-ASB in a tight one hour episode. Last but not least, Eli pitches his Cavs’ game day fits while Chris plugs for some late-night Chinese food in the Queen City… Go Cavs!

Nice read. My concern with Mobley is the timelines not matching up with Mitchell. But at this point it’s probably too late regardless of what happens.
Related thought, I think one mistep the Cavs made, if you trade for Mitchell, you make it clear it’s his team. He’s the best player hands down and it was dumb to pretend it was still Garland’s team. Mitchell should be 1a and Allen 1b. DG and Mobley should be role players when Donovan’s on the floor, and get their time to feature when he sits.
Like Brown and Tatum in Boston, it’ll become clear over time naturally
Why are the Cavs such huge favorites tonight? Does Dallas not travel well? Cavs are playing like garbage. Makes no sense to me.
Cavs are 4.5 point favorites. Looks like Luca is probable “nose,” so that may be why?!

And Merrill too… need to develop his defense in the regular season and see if he can handle pressure shots. He unlocks the paint better than any role player the Cavs have outside of Strus

(in the off-season it’s important, for the next six weeks you need to give loads of minutes to DG and Mobley: the role players are what they are and neither CPJ or Merrill should expect playoff minutes outside of occasional Merrill first half shift)

Thanks CAFAN, no I do not, I have a few random sources with analytics guys and agents… but haven’t interacted with the local beat. Eli occasionally talks to some national guys IIRC on twitter… it’s mainly to check in on the rumor mill. Easy answer for why they don’t ask these things is the Cavs do an amazing job of message discipline and refusing access to anyone who doesn’t get with the program. Also, JB generally has a Bill Belichick-ian attitude when it comes to basketball related questions… he doesn’t like being questioned about them and when he does answer… Read more »
