Live Thread: Cavs @ Heat
2024-12-08Good evening CtB!
The Cavs are in South Beach to take on the now surging Miami Heat for the SEGABABA in a sneaky important Eastern Conference battle. Miami is in the top six right now, and has the best point differential of a whole bunch of veteran teams near the play-in line. The Cavs will have to put forth a professional effort and then some to take this one tonight. The Cavs stretched themselves a bit against the Charlotte Hornets, but luckily Kenny Atkinson is a minutes management guru.
The Heat are largely healthy while the Cavs will be missing key guys Isaac Okoro, Max Strus, and Craig Porter, Jr. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live locally on Fanduel Sports Network, Go Cavs!
Mobley out tonight
BUMMER STRUS IS NOT PLAYING!!!

Chan19 News Wizards game update:
Strus: Out.
Mobley: Questionable.
Okoro: Probable.
Bummer on Max. Excited to get him back. Hopefully soon.
I thought Max was back? What’s the deal?
dunno — until an hour ago all sources said he was playing Friday.
must be not quite ready.
Strus is back!
The Hawks are kind of a problem.
yes, a dynamic (if terrible to watch) PG who can shoot and pass. Two rim-running bigs and a bevy of long, athletic, two-way wings.
I didn’t realize Dyson Daniels was an Aussie till today.
RAOUL—- WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE GAURDIANS TRADE
losing the best 2b in baseball is a bummer. but it saves a lot of money, we need pitching, and we have good infielders knocking at the door. Probably the Rays/Guards strategy of trading everyone before the last year is the only way a small market team can contend. That means JNaylor and Lane are probably going real soon now.
The other thing is, as amazing as Giminez was in the field, he’s been practically an automatic out at the plate for two solid years. It’s really tough to have automatic outs at catcher “and” 2B; your 2B needs to be able to hit. It’s impressive they made the ALCS that way, but not a formula to repeat.
yeah. apparently the team felt his hitting was going downhill and they better trade him before his value dropped any more.
another thing: the Guards have one of the deepest farm systems anywhere, and it is packed with middle infielders at the top levels. it is time to give them a shot.
one way to contend without much money is to keep developing guys, play them for a few years, and trade them for prospects. this way most of the regulars are early in their careers, where the pay is low.
Here’s hoping Bazzana is ready to get that promotion.
my guess is that he will be up in late summer or the following spring. First Brito, Freeman, Martinez, and Arias will get a shot. one or more of them is likely to look pretty good. let Bazzana work his way up at his own pace. if any of the other guys looks good, they will move to CF/RF/1B.
“ DONT KNOCK THE ROCK “!——-RIP —— GREAT MEMORIES OF THE ROCK WITH HIS TRADITIONAL BAT BEHIND HIS BACK STRETCH—- EVERY LITTLE KID IMITATED THAT!!!!
me too! I was in late grade school at that time. yahoo! — Rocky on the cover of Time Mag for hitting four HR in a game! I might still have that saved somewhere.
HAVE POSTED RECENTLY— KEEP YOUR EYE ON J BERNARD/ CHARGE——- LAST 7 GAMES— 25ppg —- ABOVE 35% 3 FROM 3 PT LAND —— BELIEVED WE PICKED HIM UP IN “ LOW KEY “ TRADE FROM THE WIZ —-READ SOMEWHERE BOTH KA’s WANTED HIM
HEARD IT EARLIER RAOUL —- KEN CARMEN THOUGHT ALOT OF “ CASH DUMPING “ BEING DONE BY ALL TEAMS NOT PRESIDING IN NY / LA
Guards get 27th pick in next draft. this is last place in the first round because NYY, NYM, LAD get a 10 spot penalty due to spending too much.
WTF?
Guards trade Andres Gimenez and Nick Sandlin to Toronto for Spencer Horwitz and who knows what else. Better be several top minor league pitchers.
They ended up flipping Horwitz to the Pirates for pitching, including Luis Ortiz, 25-year old who throws 95-96 and was in the Pirates’ rotation last year. There’s a salary dump element to it, but they do have a logjam of young middle infield talent and a crying need for more starting pitching, so it may work out. They got the deal done with Bieber, hoping he’ll be back for the stretch run next year; I think they’re doing all they can (afford to) do to improve the starting rotation. I’d like to see them add a decent free agent starter… Read more »
thnx, that makes the deal look better. plus we have two really promising infielders coming in this year.
I read somewhere (forgot where, and it might be BS) that Dolan is the 4th richest owner in MLB. but if he is just careful with his dollars, right now with a LOT of young talent, is a smart time to pony up and buy a couple free agent pitchers.
Dolans net worth is like 80+% the guardians. Not independently wealthy outside of the equity in the team. This narrative is crazy.
He isn’t off the hook by any means…the team could survive a 9 digit annual payroll probably…but thinking the dolans are raking in money selfishly always bugs me. Would we rather a Harbough situation where the teams burns hot for a couple years and is basically bankrupt for a decade afterward like the tigers? We have gotten consistent shots at titles with dolan at the helm. Every other year. Hard to argue about the competence.
I think you are right, and it is some other branch of the Dolan family that has the big money.
Who cares, eh?
many sports team owners screw the team by being cheap (e.g., Cinci Bengals). It is a big difference to me if they are cheap because they don’t have any money Vs. keeping as much as possible.
THAT IS EXCITING NEWS —-HAVE A GAME TO COACH THAT NIGHT—— WILL WATCH REPLAY—— CANT SEE STRUS PLAYING OVER 15–17 MINUTES
Strus on Friday?
https://www.si.com/nba/cavaliers/news/cleveland-cavaliers-receive-massive-injury-update-key-piece-max-strus
I’d maybe consider trading a 2nd rounder for Valanciunis. I think he can help against other bigs like Mitch Robinson.
can he fit in salary wise?
Good point. Not sure?
“After the game, Mobley spoke with Love, the apologetic former Cavalier who came into the visitor’s locker room and lamented the role his size 18 shoe played in that untimely injury,” Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor wrote. “No worries. Mobley seems fine. He’s also historically a quick healer. Plus, it’s not the worst timing either.”
——- Mobley’s injury not serious…
SUCKS ABOUT MOBES —-UNFORTUNATE PART OF SPORTS——“ MORE THOR “ TIME WILL EITHER PROVE HE IS THE BACKUP POST ANSWER/ DESERVES TO BE UP HERE/ MORE MINUTES OR KOBY NEEDS TO START MAKING PHONE CALLS—— SCHEDULE FINALLY IN CAVS FAVOR —-GET SOME REST / REPS / RECOVERY 👍🏀
Kinda thought merril was about to start his Joe Harris arc. Not yet. Will be awesome to get Strus back.
I didn’t help that Miami shot almost 10 more FTs. Lot of ticky tac calls against us.
Schedule loss, sucks… oh well, 2-1 was a good outcome, rest up, get at least Okoro and CPJ back soon and we’ll be good. Hopefully Mobley’s only out a few weeks, JT Thor time???????
Still gettable, but another kinda ‘meh’ performance from Allen
Too soft. I wish he had an attitude.
LET CARIS COOK!!!!!
JAMES DEAN LETS GOOOOOO KEEP FIGHTING UNTIL THE END!
They are close enough if they’ve got the energy.
Merrill has been a pretty big disaster this game – missing shots, giving up rebounds, and fouling. Just not his night
What’s Merrill’s shooting so far?
20 percent maybe. Which isn’t much different than season average.
Spida heating up
DM picking his spots. Miami is gonna wear down first
Man. They are they getting a generous whistle.
This line up isn’t working.
I don’t think they have a choice. They don’t have a lot of healthy guys.
Mitchell oddly passive tonight.
Jerome terrible there. should’ve given the ball to literally anyone else
The league has woken up to Ty’s drives.
He had garland, Wade, and Allen as options. That was terrible.
Cavs hinging around.but hate Merrill here
GET THE DAMN REBOUND GREAT DEFENSE AND NO ONES HOME
Good challenge I think
Did our bigs miss the flight to Miami? Both are MIA. Sheesh.
Mobley got hurt in first half
Kenny left a couple challenges in his pocket that half. He knows this game is going down to the wire and he’s counting on the Cavs’ depth to wear down this starter heavy squad. Will probably challenge late
Miami has other ideas…we look tired. Ill be very impressed if we make this a game.
Merrill just seems tired and a bit physically outmatched this game. I’d play CPJ next half.
Love to see him get some minutes here.
CPJ is out still
Poop
LET CARIS COOOOOK!!!!!
DEAN WADE HEATING UP FEED JAMES DEAN!
LOCKING UP HERRO TOO!!! LETS GOOO
Liked Dean’s confidence taking that three. Needs to keep that up.
NICE PLAY DEAN!
Robinson killen em. Really thought not challenging that B’s foul call on Merrill was a mistake
Agreed
Mitchell is having a brutal first half
Jerome rounding back into form.
TY JEROME IS BACK LETS GOOOO
Should’ve challenged that one. Ass call.
Go Cavs!
CAVS DEFENSE BACK WITH WADE LETS GOOOOOOO
Flipping back and forth between basketball and football,
Great quarter close. Credit the bench for coming in and giving them energy. Caris 6moy energy.
LET CARIS COOK
Yikes on that Mobley ankle,
Cavs might have south beach flu.
Guess not!
Miami getting the most of the whistles so far.
Thanks for getting this, C-Money!
YES SIR NATE DAWG!!!! #LETEMKNOW
