Live Thread: Cavs @ Raptors
2025-02-12Last game before All-Star weekend, Cavs fans. The first half of this season has been an unqualified success. Cleveland leads the East going into tonight’s game, with a 43-10 record, 5.5 games up on Beantown and half a game behind the NBA leading Thunder. Who’d have thunk?
Serious sandwich game potential tonight, though, with Strus and Jerome questionable at best and the Cavs still missing Okoro and Wade. J.T. Thor is also listed as out, so no help on the front line. Thinking CPJ and Merrill are going to get extended run and we might get some Merrill and/or Travers minutes. The Raps have their own issues. Poetl and the newly acquired and extended Brandon Ingram are sitting this one out. Meanwhile, P.J. Tucker is technically on the Raptors (I think?) But he’s awaiting a buyout. So it should be interesting.
The Raps are tanking, but they’re 3-7 in their last 10 and they HATE the Cavs, so Scottie Barnes and Co. are gonna be gooning it up. Keep your head on a swivel, wine and gold. Let’s hope the Cavs end the first half of the season on a high note and that Mobley keeps petitioning to rename Canada biggest city to “Evanto.” Go Cavs.
Cavs have been rolling, but tonight could be tricky with some key players out. Despite the Raptors’ tanking, they’ll bring the grit, new orleans mashup jacket especially with Barnes and company looking to get physical. Could be a wild one!

I mean, on doncic, they’ve man does not play defense. He likes to hang around the basket and watch guys drive to the rim while he plays his way into shape. He also whines incessantly and hasn’t shown any maturity growth. People who complain about the trade are the same ones who complained about all those other points but continue to overlook them now. Could mavs have gotten a better package in return? Maybe, but that narrative discounts the impact war of words has on trades.

Atlanta seems to be working out for both. Hunter is good for us and it looks like to me that there’s a consolidation benefit too as Sam has settled down and found a bit of a groove with consistent minutes: hopefully those continue post ASB although as the fifth guard with Jerome and Ice it’ll still be tight.
