Live Thread: Cavs @ Magic
2026-01-24Cavs take on the Magic tonight it’s a location a lot warmer than NE Ohio.Cava will be without DeAndre Hunter, Sam Merrill, Darius Garland, and Max Strus. The Magic are banged up too with Franz Wagner and Colin Castleton out but Jalen Suggs probable to return. The Magic have been struggling to hang around .500 across the last several games, but I’ve no doubts this one will be a grind. Go Cavs.

WOULD YOU PICK UP DRUMMOND ON A BUYOUT OR WORK A TRADE INVOLVING BALL / LNJ —— YES or NO
I don’t think we’re doing anything. Last year there was a lot of smoke about Hunter for a good month before the trigger got pulled.
I kind of like Bryant as much as Drummond fwiw
Cavs aren’t gonna do anything on the buyout market till after the trade deadline. The low key “are they better without Garland?” hypothesis will be tested for another week.
I would not offload snyone on the roster unless the trade is VERY lopsided. And I cannot see that for anyone we have, and we cannot take on salary.
Spida, Mobley, Tyson, Merrill, and Wade are absolutely off limits. JA & Proctor nearly so.
Ball & LNJ have struggled, but they both have enough of a track record that I am betting they can get staightened out be spring. They are both for the POs anyway.
I stick it out with DG one more year. If he struggles again come May/June, I look to make a move there.
Hunter & Strus are both moveable contracts. Strus isn’t worth anything given the injury.
Hunter is a guy I might think about moving. But his value is real low now. Likely a pass your trash type deal. And guys like Ellis & Portis don’t move the needle much for me. Portis more than Ellis.
We need a big wing, a big, or a defensive PG.
i stick with DG/Ball/CPJ/Proctor at PG. If I cannot swing a Hunter trade, then I look buyout and Drummond would be a guy I’d consider.
PROBABLY GOT 7 HRS OF “ CARDIO SHOVELING “ THE LAST 2 DAYS—— I REALLY ENJOY IT 🥶🤪——REMINDS ME “ IN MY YOUTH “ MY BROTHER a AND I FORMED THE “ SHOVELING BRIGADE “ —SHOVELED 2-3 ENTIRE BLOCKS AND THEN HEADED TO THE LOCAL “ SODA SHOP “ FOR HOT CHOCOLATE/ BURGERS/ FRIES 🍟——- GREAT MEMORIES 👍👍👍👍
Bummer that Raptors prevailed @ OKC
Yep. I was all ready to say we could move into a tie for 4th with a win tomorrow.
👍👍—-YES BRING HAYES UP !!! ——— WHO ARE POTENTIAL “ BUYOUTS “ THAT COULD HELP OR THE “ APRON “ TAX WONT ALLOW TO PURSUE
I am kinda fuzzy on the 2nd apron rules, but I know 2nd apron teams can only sign buyouts who have salaries below a certain threshold.
I think it is the mid-level exception.
That’s correct, Jason.
MR STEAL- MO WHO??
Wagner
Who did CPJ get his block against, Banchero? I cannot ever remember a 6’2” or under guy who was “that” good at blocking shots.
Dwyane Wade was the closest I can remember, and he was 6-3.
Good one, but as you say was a little taller; I think “listed” 6’4” although I wouldn’t doubt that his real height was more like 6’3.
Reddit reminds me that Killian Hayes punched Mo in the head once while with Detroit.
Ten day soon come
After watching DM successfully execute his “windmill gather” on Banchero, I couldn’t help but think of the times on the soccer pitch when I was the recipient of a nutmeg. I would really get pissed. So, with the aid of ChatGPT, I came up with an alternative name: the skymeg.
Love it.
I call that move the diabolo.
Seconded on skymeg.
Best things about this stretch are us developing some depth (Tyson, Proctor, Tomlin), and us developing a grinder’s mentality.
Yup. Those grind out units will be really good when DG is back…there’s no reason the big 2/3 lineups can’t be strong with DG paired with Tyson/Wade.
That was a nice win on a b2b down DG, Merrill, Hunter, LNJ, and, of course, Strus.
Got some nice offense early from Tyson and Proctor (29 pts on 9/13 FGs and 5/7 from deep combines). A good Ball game (8 boards, 3 steals, 2/4 from deep). Allen & Wade each with 5 stocks (3 steals & 2 blocks). Bryant played productive minutes (+13). The only negative in terms of +/- wasTomlin at -9, and he still had 9 pts and 4 dimes.
Monster Mitchell game, too.
If this game doesn’t show you that the Cavs should consider trading Garland, it should.
Well, we shot it really well. 50/40+. On those nights, it is easier to say we don’t need DG.
But Orland is pretty mediocre and Tyson/Proctor/Ball won’t shoot it that well consistently.
Proctor is shooting 32% from 3, Ball 27%. Tonight: 67% on low volume.
All you need is Proctor and Wade to shoot 100% every game. Easy peasy.
Just be glad we have multiple ways to win. Small and big.
Really best start to finish game I’ve seen em play all year from a focus, tactics, and execution standpoint. Great game.
