With a wistful nod to the recently departed Tom Petty, we embark with the newly constructed Cavaliers on the (seemingly never-ending, but at least a bit shorter) pre-season campaign. In their first of five warm up games that don’t count, the guys in wine & gold red and yellow trimmed tighty-whites (which actually didn’t look half bad), took on the erstwhile Atlanta Hawks and their lone remaining peroxide patched, hookah bar brawler of a point guard, Denis SchrÖeder. Summer League Recap: Cavs 91, Dubs 74 (or, Best of Nine?)

Tuesday night, I chilled with NOMAD on CtB and watched the summer Cavs own the summer Warriors 91-74.  The score is misleading, the Warriors were never in this game. Cavs are undefeated for the summer and were able to completely dominate two out of the three victories.  Here are a few observations.

When are 120 points not enough? When you give up 129. That’s obvious and simple math… but the Cavs chose to try and sprint along next to the Warriors in an attempt to outrun, outgun and outscore them with a team loaded with shooters. In the end… they just couldn’t quite match the offensive firepower, which was magnified by their own mistakes and inability to get stops when they desperately needed them.
