Live Thread: Hornets @ Cavs
2016-02-24Two nights after a loss to the Detroit Pistons that was as ugly as their win over the Oklahoma City Thunder was impressive, the Cleveland Cavaliers welcome the Charlotte Hornets t town. There’s a pretty good chance that LeBron and the gang come in highly motivated for this one. Besides wanting to get back on the right track after Monday night’s debacle, the Cavs will also be looking to avenge a February loss to the Hornets in Charlotte.
Look Cavaliers to be aggressive early on defense after an extremely sluggish effort against the Pistons on Monday. Slowing down Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lin will be essential for the Cavs as they have struggled to contain both in the past. Unfortunately, they will continue to be without the services of Iman Shumpert, who remains on the sidelines with a strained shoulder. Mo Williams is available after missing the last two games with Chondromalacia, but somehow I’m skeptical he’ll help much with defense.
Another thing to keep an eye on is the impact Courtney Lee and Channing Frye have for the Hornets and Cavaliers, respectively. Both men are obviously role players for their teams, but with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist out for the season, the Hornets will need much more from Lee than the Cavaliers will from Frye.
Be sure to turn in tonight at 7:00 on Fox Sports Ohio as the Cavaliers try to get back to their winning ways, and be sure to share your thoughts here at Cavs: The Blog!
Held their own in the 3rd quarter….progress.
Cavs scored 40 points in the second quarter
Well. THATS ?
What is that rectangle? Is that new social media symbology, or is my browser displaying weird?
I’m assuming it’s a smiley face, is there any other way to feel about 40 points dropped in a quarter?
Ah, yeah, my browser must be on the fritz.
So happy LBJ passed up that 3, and drove to the basket.
How are the Cavs looking?
Pretty good, actually. Have been in control the entire game so far.
Pretty good. Pretty, pretty, PRETTY GOOD!
Solid game so far. Good shooting and decent defense except vs Walker.
JR with the steal and throw down!
Delly with the sweet look.
Another phantom call/flop by Walker.
Cavs have had a lot of balls spin out this quarter.
Kemba must love KI tracking him…
Transition game is on point. Running them out of the building and exploiting every time they are slow to get back.
Omigosh what a tough finish by LeBron.
Kind of stagnant quarter, but Cavs go on a little run, up 14. Love has played well, just not lights out shooting.
Cavs struggling to shot the ball this quarter.
Do they reverse the trend of terrible starts to the second half?
Yes, for some reason I think it will be a good 3rd quarter like vs OKC
If Love hits some shots, it could be.
WILL TAKE 5 PTS / 2 REBS –IN 3 MINUTES FROM FRYE ALL THE TIME—-WOW 40 PTS IN 1 QTR —IS THIS THE ALL STAR GAME—–PUT THEM AWAY AT THE START OF THE 3RD SO WE CAN REST SOME STARTERS
I hope they do, but going by past example, Hornets probably take the lead in the 3rd.
I like quick trigger, aggressive Kevin Love more than I like stand at the 3 pt line Kevin Love.
He’s been fantastic!
LeBron playing a great game. On pace for 30 points and a triple double.
Bron money at the foul line tonight.
I’m sure that will never come back to bite us in the playoffs.
Seems like Zeller has 5 fouls already…
Great play btw Love, Bron, Moz!
So great to see Love feeling himself like this.
What???????????????
Sorry, I meant to say he really looks to be enjoying the game of basketball lately.
I figured that’s what you meant! Or at least hoped.
Blech….five point swing there, on the misconnected oop and Walker 3.
Turn back the clock Bron!!!!
Nice pass, JR….
JR gets a call. Of course it may have required a concussion, but still…
I gotta say, TT has some great posture.
And that tip dunk was fantastic.
JR on fire, completely untouchable
Maybe every shot JR takes should be contested. This is nuts.
Lots of flopping by the Hornets!
I hope to see some extensive breakdown of the Love-Kaminsky duel. If the Hornets were a first-round playoff matchup (they are currently #7 in the East) they could be battling for a while, wonder if they would round Cavs into shape to beat the stuffing out of the Celtics or the Heat in round 2.
JR is ????????
I think he’s had his eyes closed the whole time
JR feeling it tonight…
Jefferson holds LeBron then gets to shoot to FTs for it.
Cavs are actually knocking rebounds away from Love. what is going on, drama never ends
Nice run and sharing the scoring. Real deliberate rotation it seems with Kyrie playing with second unit. Great move. Nice pts from Frye.
2 years ago I could have never imagined loving JR Smith this much.
Timo has been playing better. Just needs to hang onto the ball better.
JR is almost as good as Curry on those awkward 3s.
I believe he has the 2nd most 3s since Jan. 1, behind Curry.
Delly Trey!!!!!!!!!
Love just broke Frank-the-tanks ankles.
It looked like Frank stepped in a bear trap
Lauren Holtkamp in the house tonight. Usually a good thing.
I want her reffing anytime we play the Clippers.
lol what was that Lebron rebound over Love. Then Kev’s reaction, so awkward
I want to take some clippers to Lin’s hair…
Looks like some kind of dinosaur shield on top. Must take several pounds of pomade to keep it in place.
Heavy Richard Grieco vibes
No idea why someone would want to play basketball with hair like that…I always wanted it as short as possible…
Timo has been pretty effective on D, anyway.
I love the guy but he has oven mitt’s for hands
Pretty sure Timo’s hands are made of Flubber
Channing Frye is 2-2 with 5 points
make that 2-3; at least James Jones is still on the bench tho
So Iman Shumpert is out / in street clothes; but is Mo Williams suited up for this one and with the team? I have bad memories of him being very disconnected from team huddles and bench culture in the Year of Desolation after LeBron went to M****. Would be nice if he was still doing shootarounds and all that, dude gets a bad rap but can do damage if he gets hot / does not have a defective knee. Not that minutes are endless on this squad but still have some faith in Mo in spite of his poor defence.
Mo’s available to play. He’s suffering from a case of the pouts!
He has the mopes real bad…
Good one, that sounds right on the mark!!
Good to see Frye hit a couple of shots!
There you go Kyrie! Open court, that’s where you thrive
Wow, nice play by Frye. Didn’t know he had that move.
The good part of KI’s game – finishing on the break.
Uncle Drew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Flashing that Layup King form between two bigs.
Alright Frye! Keep hitting those 3s!
Frye comes in and immediately picks up a foul.
Cavs offense is no system right now. Just jump shots.
Jump shots, Lepickandrolls, and KI dribbling like a tweaker. It is what it is.
Good start to the quarter. Otherwise, pretty meh!!!!
Lots of heavily contested jump shots for us tonight. Gotta get it inside.
That was a BS call!!!!!
There was no charge! Walker was moving. Should have another 3 points.
Just always seems like such a slog if Love isn’t hitting shots early. Too many long jumpers by everyone in this one so far.
Gotta play some defense on Kaminsky.
Love their defensive energy to start. Scrambling.
Well hopefully James hitting spot up corner 3 is a good sign of things to come with his shot.
It’s generally a sign that he’s going to take many more of them, most of them bricks.
Dude, see sentence number one of this post: “the Cleveland Cavaliers welcome the Charlotte Hornets t town.” Do you notice t typo? That’s the equivalent of an airball on the first possession bros, let’s hope the Cavs don’t follow suit. Also, I expect some commentary on Linsanity’s hair; if CtB are lacking comments in Chinese (simplified characters are OK even though Lin’s family comes from the land of Wade-Giles romanization), I would be happy to fill in, but jeez you gotta fix that airball, standards must be maintained in the era of Tyrone Lue!
Here comes the grammar police.
Arch, I think you must mean “t grammar police”, according to the CtB style guide. I wish I could write that (sorry, I mean t) in comic sans BTW. Come to think of it, I think even the Plain Dealer (Northeast Ohio Media Group, terrible fuggin name, why does Chris Haynes say that?) has sub-editors. I guess what I have come to expect from Cavs the Blog (Cavs t Blog) is more Delly, more hustle, less standing around whining and making totally avoidable errors; if I want sloppy I’ll go to the DMV on E. 55 and, chewing lazily on… Read more »
Lay off the Dorweedo’s!!!!!!
Wow, man. You know CtB is a labor of love. If you want to volunteer to proofread, maybe they’ll welcome the help.
Fair point! I’m a fan of the quantity so a missed vowel here and there is not gonna kill me. And single letters are part of Cavs tradition after all — see “Z”.
As long as you’re calling out errors….it’s Tyronn, not Tyrone.
right on, the Tyronn Era is underway
Cavs have more turnovers than points
Wowser Courtney Lee’s form.
I forgot they got Courtney Lee.
Well it helps that MKG is out. LeBron should have an easier offensive game.
I’m looking forward to another live thread of ISO-lationists complaining about our best players sucking in nonessential games.
Is it okay to complain about our best players sucking while getting swept by the Warriors? Asking in advance.
Good question by MikeO; at this point the Cavs winning two games out of six against that squad is questionable.
But Kevin’s comment leads me to wonder: Have the Cavs been unduly influenced by the ISOlationist politics of Senator Robert Taft? If you’re bored with ISO-reference, you could say “the Cavs are Tafting it up again.” Very Ohio-specific, also, and no one really makes rubber references to Akron any more (why not? it’s the rubber city bros) but perhaps LeBron spinning his tires without ever getting into gear would be another .
Kyrie must contain Linsanity tonight. Or give him bed bugs.
Sorry about getting the location backwards! Working to fix this.
Easy win for the Cavs.
And no, the Pistons loss does not cancel out the OKC domination. The Cavs in playoff mode are almost unbeatable.
Just curious, do you still think they beat the Warriors in 5 games or less?
Less than 4. The Warriors will give up after losing the first 3…..
The Cavs sweep them in 2 games.
I Predict the Cavs sweep in one game! (Talk about being set up like a South American election!)
I think GS will just forfeit if they draw the Cavs.
