Live Thread: Cavs @ Jazz (#BackToBacksAreWhack)
2016-03-14The Cavs finish up their four game run through the West Coast with one last stop in Salt Lake tonight against the Utah Jazz on the second night of a… you guessed it… back-to-back. For all the talk of the League trying to reduce the frequency of back-to-backs during the NBA schedule, this will be the Cavs’ 14th double-dip so far (with three more to go before the season comes to a close), and fourth just in the last two weeks. On the plus side, Cleveland has a 9-4 on the second nights of back-to-backs. They’ve had some of their worst defeats (the Portland game comes to mind), but also some of their biggest victories (like San Antonio) in them. On the minus side, it can’t be easy to get up for games on consecutive games… especially at the end of a roadtrip, against a team that is struggling to make the playoffs. Maybe the schedule-makers, or Adam Silver will find ways to trim the number back next year, but for now the Cavs will need a good effort to avoid one last potential pot-hole on the road before heading back home.
Fortunately, LeBron has fared pretty well on the second night of back-to-backs in his career…
Tonight will be @KingJames 224th game on 2nd night of BTB..his average of 27.8 is slightly higher than career norm..only Kobe 28.1 is higher

And, the Cavs have built some terrific momentum over the first three games of this trip through most of California. Hopefully, they can continue their red-hot shooting from beyond the arc, so they don’t have to deal as much with the “Stifle Tower” Rudy Gobert in the paint. One guy they definitely won’t have to worry about is Jazz star and leading scorer, Gordon Hayward, who is going to miss this one with plantar fasciitis.
The Cavs probable starting lineup will be: Kyrie Irving, J.R. Smith, LeBron James, Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson (who reportedly gets the start tonight). For the Jazz: Shelvin Mack, Rodney Hood, Joe Ingles, Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert.
Game starts at 10:30 p.m EST (for you night owls)/7:30 p.m. on the west coast. All the action will be broadcast on ESPN and Fox Sports Ohio, and can be heard on WTAM 1100.
Prediction: Weary from the back-to-back at the end of a long road trip, the Cavs let the Jazz play things close until the second half. Cavs find a way to win and head back to Cleveland for some home cooking 99-87.
Some overpassing there. LBJ/Frye/Shump all had open looks
I’ll take overpassing…!
Yep, why Is LBJ not actually rolling? Looking for the mismatch slowdown postup. I get that the jazz have gobert and favors at the rim but someone else cut baseline and it will be a wide open layup or dunk!
Nice D by Frye. He’s stronger than he looks.
Frye has a fast release
Someone listened to the podcast… ;)
How about Alien vs Superman and Batman vs Predator?
Is that one movie or two?
It’s a trilogy directed by Peter Jackson
Superman bs Batman looks so dumb.
don’t be a grumpy old man Cols!
Does not apply
For crappy movies. I generally am easy to please for movies.
That’s actually better than the real title
Agree with you there… DC comic movies (outside of Nolan) are pretty bad…
Yeah, dark night trilogy was great imo
Agree, generally hate comic book movies, but how is a normal dude going to fight a guy that moves continents?
I generally like comic book movies. But the normal dude fighting super man makes
Zero sense.
There have been a few that, I have like, the original Keaton/Tim Burton Batman, Dark Night mostly cause heath ledger, and the first Spiderman, but generally I just feel over saturated by all of it.
Get help from Nate Robinson??
Delly toasted again. Bring back Kyrie.
Zero help from the bigs that time…
It would be nice if he didn’t get burnt so much though.
He doesn’t get Burnt as much as you tho!!!!
Or every time.
Hubie called it “splitting the trap” — that is, between Delly and LeBron. Shared responsibility between favorite scapegoat and favorite hero? Conundrum for Cols.
Never seen LeBron blow two layups in a row like that…
It’s Delly’s fault clearly!!!! /s
Apparently my stream is crazy behind because that just happened.
There you go Shump. Now don’t do anything stupid on offense ok.. Learn your limits
We’ve all noticed a big jump in shump’s focus in the last two weeks right? Kid is high octane on d again, and is picking up the slack on the defensive rebounds
Ugh. Delly just cannot stay in front of anyone lately.
Think part of it is delly plays great team d and the cavs schemes have been a hot garbage mess for about a month.
Their bigs are obliterating us in the paint. Hopefully, nevermind, ok frye, never mind shutup frye. Crazy sequence. What I was getting at is hopefully Frye can pull them out of the paint.
SHUMP!!
https://vine.co/v/iwvDJpPJA7D
Shump has been good on defense.
Shump rip
Goaltend… but Shump helps get it back…
Looks like it was a good no call.
Looked like it was on it’s way back down, Hubie… ;)
Delly really needs to step up on defense.
So does Kyrie…
No sight of Frye the whole quarter with two big men who plays in the paint…
Frye in there now…
Uuugh Delly passed up an open 3, why?
Delly getting destroyed. But LeB is unstoppable
Shut up Cols!
Don’t see him getting destroyed…
Yeah, Gobert and Favors are piling up the points against him. /s
LBJ with a big time triple!
https://vine.co/v/iwvwJZAI9nP
Only time a fallaway 3 is acceptable from LBJ with basically 1 sec on shot clock.
I like Hood. Would be a good bench player.
When did LeBron learn to shoot again?
Yesterday?
Had a feeling this one would start like this… Cavs gonna need to dig deep to get this one…
Bron’s 3 shot has been really good lately.
Although, that was a crazy fall away three…
We need more offense in this line up.
Is this the clippers game where we roar back or the griz game where we get punked?
Question. Who would you take now and for the future whiteside or gobert?
Gobert I think… younger and less head-casey…
Whiteside has a pretty good post game though doesn’t he? Also how old is Gobert?
Amazing hang time by LBJ!
https://vine.co/v/iwvHn1Kw0PO
Beautiful passing to get Delly an open look from three… alas, no bucket…
jinx.
Loved that ball movement even though the Delly’s shot didn’t go down.

Holy cow, Gobert is so huge and long and mobile. Get why the jazz are so good defensively.
Like Moz last year.
Moz was never like that.
Love not playing well right now. Awkward positioning there with TT, they almost seemed to box each other out.
Love REALLY wanted the ball in the post that last possession. Looked disappointed Kyrie chose to drive mid range and shoot.
His positioning was so awkward. There was no opening for an entry pass.
Good to see Kyrie rush back on D.
Oh where oh where has kevin love’s shot gone…
We never really addressed that Love only shot over 38% for one year of his career.
From 3 i mean.
Too many threes…
Good mid-range from RJ…
Kevin Loves inability to make wide open threes is becoming an issue.
Yeah. In his head, but he was never a great shooter for more than 2 years, good for a big man though.
Not a great possession there. Get into the Irving LBJ p and r. Jazz may cover it better than most cause of favors and gobert but it still will draw those two away from the bucket and open passing lanes for baseline cutters.
I’d put Frye in now…..
Moz having some problems defensively today.
Chucking up a lot of threes right now.
Bad foul by Mozzy on that…
He doesn’t commit any other kind lately…
Stifle Tower cares not for Russian Bears…
Nice dunk, Gobert.
Lebron played wide receiver to prepare for JR smith oops
Hammer down……..
WOW! LBJ with that S-L-A-M!
https://vine.co/v/iwvr2WvnH2F
Love Delly’s reaction at the end of the bench.
WOWWW ANOTHER ONE LOLLLLLL
JR with the nightly lob challenge for LeBron.
JR trying to get his ridiculous lobs into this next year…
http://www.nba.com/spurs/sites/spurs/files/2011_skills_challenge_300x200.jpg
Wow!!! JR with another bad pass for a Bron Oop!!!
Utah fans glad they bought a ticket there.
Good post activity by James.
Love is an exceptional passer.
Kyrie running around picks like he’s an 18 wheeler. Wide left turns.
Mozzy converting that one-handed dunk tho!
Nice pass by Love.
That banana got smushed right quick…
And so is Kev… smh…
Kyrie! Picking up where he left off…
Cavs shoulda started Delly to counter his countryman… ingles…
Wow, not having to refresh my computer is just unbelievable! Like sitting in first class on an airplane. This really frees me up to concentrate on my drinking.
I’ve never sat first class. Color me envious haha.
Just imagining. This makes me fell like a king. Sit back, watch the game, glance down at the comments. Whohoo!
The gift that keeps on giving ????????
Is this game really on ESPN?? Holy annoying sauce batman. I’m a Cavs fan and I barely want to watch…but I DO want to and I paid nbatv to let me watch. Let me watch!
Yeah, I missed that initially… people really wanna see the Cavs I guess… Or there were just no other late night games worth showing…
Bulls back in the 8th seed. Detroit back at the 9th seed.
Cavs should destroy the Jazz. No Gordon spells doom for them. That said, we lost to the grizzled remnants of Memphis…hopefully we show up hungry for some tenor sax
I thought the same thing last Monday when Memphis had their top 3 guys out…
I want to know what CLF says about tonight’s numbers. I have no idea what the Cavs are going to do.
I have no idea what to expect. But if I had to guess, I think this one is close, but the Cavs pull out a victory.
Holy 40 point differential, Batman! (Wizards > Pistons)
Yeah lots of blow outs tonight. Houston blowing out Memphis by 40. OKC blew out the Blazers by 30.
Prediction (ok, wishful thinking): The Cavs put this one to bed by halftime so I don’t have to stay up until 1 a.m.
