Cavs Re-Sign Korver
2017-07-02
In a move that should please Cavalier fans, the team has agreed to a new contract with swingman Kyle Korver. According to reports, the deal is for three years and $22 million, with the third season only partially guaranteed.
The Cavs have agreed to a 3-year, $22 million deal with Kyle Korver, sources said. Partial guarantee in third year.
— Brian Windhorst (@WindhorstESPN) July 2, 2017
This looks like a tremendous deal for the Cavaliers. While teams have been a little more cautious with their spending than they were last summer, there have still been some mammoth deals given out in the first two days of free agency. Considering that shooting guard J.J. Reddick, a similar (albeit younger and and better defensive) player agreed to a one-year $23 million dollar contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, it wasn’t out of this world to think that Korver would at least be looking for a figure that paid him seven figures annually. To re-sign him to a deal that will pay him less for three seasons than Reddick will make for one, and that is less than the non-taxpayer mid-level exception, is likely the best possible outcome for the Cavaliers.
Korver, who was the 51st pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, has also played for the 76ers, Utah Jazz, Chicago Bulls, and Atlanta Hawks in his career. He has led the league in three-point percentage four times, including last season, which he split between the Hawks and Cavaliers. His .536 mark from three for the 2009-2010 season is the highest single season mark in NBA history, and he is currently ranked fifth all time in three-point field goals and seventh all-time in three point percentage. In short, he is one of the greatest shooters in league history.
This deal will likely take Korver through the end of his career, and gives him the type of security players desire in their final seasons. In short, this is a win-win deal for both sides, and a move all Cavalier fans can be excited about.
Hayward goes to Boston. Makes them the most likely team to lose to the Cavs in the East finals. If they had gotten George also, then there might have been something to worry about. I have watched Hayward a lot. He is a good player, but no where near enough to even concern the Cavs. However, Boston is doing a good job preparing for when LeBron is not the dominant player anymore.
Missed out on ZBo.
Since Hayward is Boston bound the market now will dry up, now maybe we can snag a couple of players we coveted.
Cash was too important to him. I don’t blame him though. He’ll never have an opportunity to make $24 million for 16 months of work ever again. Not sure if he would have been the right get for the Cavs anyway.
Yeah, I was just thinking high of him because I want to believe he can fit as a second unit scorer. But hey 24M is a lot of money.
Hayward to Boston. Apparently they have to give up Olynyk, Jerebko and potentially Crowder or Smart. I’m not sure I can hate the team too much of it’s just IT, Hayward, and Avery Bradley. Actually I kind of like them
Can Bosh still play basketball or what?
Maybe so the only problem is he is on blood thinners so he is at risk for bleeding if he gets hit in the spleen he can die on the court i dont think any team wants to take that risk. But be well compensated he will be alright the worst part is he feels completely healthy but the risk is to high.
Yes, while on blood thinners, he is at risk for not only any blows to the abdomen, but also to the head and chest. My guess is that he’s on one of the new anticoagulant agents as well, which 2 out of 3 don’t have reversal agents. With two separate episodes of blood clots, he likely is on indefinite (if not lifelong) blood thinners. It is a major liability and unfortunately, it is very very unlikely that he will ever see the court again despite the “ability” he still has or how he feels.
Sounds like Hayward to Boston, was hoping they’d get shutout.
We will beat them in 5.
Realllly hope he goes back to the Jazz. First because eff Boston, second it would make Haynes look stupid (couldn’t stand him with the Plain Dealer), then lastly, would like to see the Jazz stay together. He probably goes to Boston but I’d be so happy if this blew up in their face.
Kings sign Zach Randolph and George Hill not sure who the Cavs can use MLE on.
We’ll likely have to wait for a bit. There aren’t that many teams with cap room, so we should be able to land someone decent.
Mbah a Mute!
This got a bit buried so I’m just going to bump…Luc Mbah a Moute (the prince) at the MLE is the answer to what ails us defensively
He wasn’t the answer for yhe Clips, who needed a SF more than anything & had Paul, Reddick, Griffin, + Crawford/Jordan around him.
Probably not ‘the answer’, but still would be a good signing, imo.
Too much of an offensive black hole to see the court in any meaningful way IMO.
Who doesn’t love Delonte? I’m not even sure it’s his account. I’m just expecting/pretending it is:

I like Galinari, but he always seems injured.
Who’s this Donavan Mitchell kid? Tore it up tonight.

Randolph would be ok. Not sure it helps against gs. However, it might give to more rest in the regular season.
Darn auto correct. TT more rest
If Comic Sans Dan brings in Randolph to reignite the “Jailblazers,” then I’m on his level………..
Not really but hey, it’s 2017 and America has gone nuts so good luck y’all!!!!
So the 2nd best NBA player is being paid less than a bunch of other NBA players. Dumb. I hate the Warrriros.
Durant legacy will still be lessened by going to the warriors but he is doing what James and Duncan did. Of course Duncan took significant cuts throughout most of his career.
This is significantly more than anything James did. And Duncan never took a discount in his prime like Durant is doing. Durant is making less than Al freaking Horford.
So be it. What is your problem? He wants to win. Good for him. It is his choice if you remember. You are always talking about player choice. The fact you are complaining about his agency makes you a complete hypocrite. You either realize that or you are delusional. He doesn’t have to take the max if he he doesn’t want to. It’s not like at this point in his career, he or his kids, grandkids, great grandkids, or great great grand kids will ever be wanting for money. He wants to win and because he likely will win, he… Read more »
Agreed completely
Damn… Jayson Tatum with the go-ahead jumper…. he looks really good.
Fultz looks good…. but I highly doubt he’s leading Philly to the playoffs, no matter how bad the East is. He’s a score-first PG… he’s going to turn the ball over a lot trying to make plays as a rookie PG IMO. Jaylon Brown looks like he might take the next step in his game.
You’re forgetting about by far their best player and the guy with the highest ceiling on that team, Embiid. If he stays healthy, he will be a top 10 player in a year or so. Fultz doesn’t have that kind of game yet. He may never will. Of course, Embiid staying healthy may not be in the cards. That guy will be a better rim protector than Gobert if he is healthy. He averaged something like 2.3-2-5 blocks in 25-28 mpg last year. Ridiculous.
may never. Sorry got some bourbon in me on 4th of July eve.
Embiid, Reddick, Simmons, & Covington will lead them.
warriorsfan is wrong as usual. Once Iggy and Livingston signed, Durant signing did nothing but save the warriors on the luxury tax.
lol. I would have asked you to google but here. If Durant went for max money allowed per cap space, Iguodala and Livingston were gone.
“Since Durant changed teams as a free agent last summer, to pay him that maximum salary Golden State would have had to clear the necessary cap space. That in turn would have meant renouncing the Bird rights to Iguodala and Livingston, meaning they could have only re-signed using cap exceptions.”
Yes But he didn’t have to take a huge discount. He was due more than he took. Quit trolling
Cols: Durant is an idiot.
Also Cols: Quit trolling.
Let me try for last time, slowly (and am not trolling, just correcting mis information).
To give Durant what he is due, you would have renounce bird right of Iguodala and Livingston. After Durant gets all FA money, warriors could only offer exceptions or vet minimums to Iguodala and Livingston. So, Durant told warriors, he will take less, so warriors can go over cap to sign Iguodala and Livingston. Durant didn’t have to take discount but he did to help sign teammates and keep team intact.
Let me say it fast. HE DIDNT HAVE TO TAKE THAT MUCH LESS.
Cupcake agreed to a lesser money, Billups declined the offer, King is silent in the recruitment process….Well it seems this will be the last year that we’re going to see our Big 3 together. I have this feeling that King James will be a Laker next year together with PG & Westbrook . Win or lose this year I’ll just enjoy it to the fullest seeing the Big 3 together one last time.
You’re an idiot
Durant is an idiot. Signing for less does nothing to increase the cap flexibility. It just saves the billionaire owner who is moving into a new arena and basically printing money money.
I don’t be believe Lacob is a billionaire… yet.
Yeah. Pretty sure he is doing nothing but transfering money from his pocket to Lacob’s. I don’t think him signing for less lets them sign anyone else.
That is false information. Durant 10 millions for one year discount enabled signing of his teammates Iguodala and Livingston – not to save owners money.
Lucky for you guys because you have an owner that empowers and trust the people around him.
owner is actually extremely lucky to get players who are going to length to play together. Real test after two seasons when owner will be forced to pay both Draymond and Klay for 30 mils each, but looks like they are doing everything to keep the team together atleast for next two years. Iguodala’s 3rd year is going to hurt then, they may have to trade away Iguodala’s contract packing a pick or young prospect.
Bam Adebayo schooling Rakeem Christmas right now and looking like a TT with an offensive game. Leaf and Mighty Joe Young also looking good.
I don’t think it is, but please let that be Mozgov third from the right in Delly’s groomsmen.
https://twitter.com/matthewdelly/status/881910413922906112
Sure looks afar like Moz facially, but is that guy tall enough? Maybe the man to the right of Delly is also a basketball player.
Billups told The Undefeated he turned down the Cavs job because “.,,.. the timing and fit wasn’t good at the moment.” Sounds like Griffin talking about fit in his departure memo. Gilbert needs to loosen the reigns and defer to basketball people. But that doesn’t appear to be in the cards.
LeBron has done what LeBron does. He puts the pressure on a team to win now. They trade away their younger pieces & assets to win now. Which they do. However, when they get surpassed, the cupboard is bare & the die has been cast. If Durant would have stayed put, we’d have 2 in a row and would be favored for 3. For a GM, a team that is capped out, a repeater tax team, no picks, title or bust expectations, and few ways to catch your rival is not a fun job.
My God, the East is going to be putrid. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Bucks end up in the top 3 seeds.
No one wants to face LeBron. 7 straight years of pure domination will do that to you I guess.
The Raptors will have everyone back of consequence. Ditto Boston. Probably the Wiz. The top 4 will be the same. Bucks with health will improve. The top 5 will all be about the same or better.
The teams that took a hit are Atlanta, Indy, & Chicago. All bottom half PO teams. Replace them with Miami (very good post ASG & have cap room, Hayward would make them pretty tough), Philly, and 1 more team (Charlotte or Detroit) & it is about the same.
Billups ne marche pas… http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/19798109/chauncey-billups-withdraws-name-cleveland-cavaliers-front-office-search
I think Gilbert just doesn’t think paying for a GM is worth it. He didn’t with Ferry (thank FSM), he didn’t with Grant (thank FSM), and he doesn’t with Griffin. We shall see how it works out. But if Koby can do the job, then it’s all good.
It’s funny. Mark Cuban is a much more meddlesome owner than Gilbert seems to be yet gets maybe 1/1000000 of the hatred.
“It’s funny. Mark Cuban is a much more meddlesome owner than Gilbert seems to be yet gets maybe 1/1000000 of the hatred.”
Why do you suppose that is?
I honestly don’t know why that is.
My best guess is that Cuban is just much more likable than Gilbert.
And yet the Mavs strike out over and over again in free agency. I think Cuban’s constant need for attention and meddling in the basketball side of things is turning players off.
Cuban is plenty hated. He’s not hated on here because he’s not meddling here. He gets some love nationally because say what you will about him, but he is really in to his team. Gilbert is a loud mouth troll with zero charm or personality.
Part of it is also having to pay more to attract people to Cleveland. I hate that it’s true, but it’s true.
In the NBA, being a vocal trump supporter isn’t exactly a recipe for popularity.
Making your fortune in the mortgage business after the crash/massive fraud in housing market doesn’t help either. Neither did the letter.
Almost all owners are GOP supporters. A few (Cuban) bailed on Trump. Most others had the sense to shut up about it.
Gilbert is willing to spend money on the squad since their success also helps aggrandize him. Spending money on a GM is more under the radar. Plus, he fancies himself someone who knows what they are doing so he gives each GM less authority. He’s kind of like Shump, he tries to do too much.
Sounds about right.
Chauncey passing. Good. Get someone with an analytics background or just keep the current guys in place.
The Cavs FO is already analytics based. That isn’t changing no matter what. It’s been that way since Gilbert bought the team.
Do you have to make a comment about everything?
I thought Cols’ constant need for attention and validation was his shtick???
Sounds about right.
Nothing like getting trolled by Ice Cube! :)
https://twitter.com/icecube/status/881912472688402433
Dan Gilbert sucks
Read Windhorst’s book. Gilbert was instrumental is getting us back James. Gilbert may indeed suck, but he still helped get us a ring.
Instrumental is a rediculous stretch. He had to grovel. LeBron had made up his own mind, but made Gilbert beg for being such an ass in the first place.
Looks like Gilbert wants to be a quieter version of Jerry Jones. Windy said each Cavs GM has had less authority than his predecessor
I’ve heard that too. I don’t think that works as well in a league where the players dictate more than in the NFL.
https://twitter.com/AkronJackson/status/881911186736001025
Hahaha. And then be like the worst franchise in the NFL!!!!!
Hahahahaha… of course he did.
https://twitter.com/JeffZillgitt/status/881909790619967489
https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/881902728804487169
COMIC SANS DAN!!!!!!!!!
That sucks. Maybe just promote from within then.
That’s his M.O., because he never really has a clear cut plan. He’s a dope that walked into a franchise that had LeBron.
Eh. I give him a lot of credit for paying to keep this team together and getting us LeBron back. It’s not his fault Danny Ferry failed at his GM job the first time around.
Who needs a stable operation when you’ve got LeBron? At least for one more year.
The team seems pretty stable though. I’m not sure what you are talking about. We just signed Korver and seem to be running it back with a great team.
https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/881863218494402560
I don’t believe the Cavs can use their trade exceptions to take on any Bucks, correct?
If so, then take back Delly!!!!
No. $10M! Now that’s a guy who is overpaid.
It’s not your money.
Yeah, I know. But considering half this thread is trying to inform people who think the Tristan and JR are overpaid (They aren’t), I find it amusing that people would want Delly and his absurd contract back.
You are doing the same thing as ‘half this thread’. Why do you care so much about Gilbert’s money?
I don’t care about Gilbert’s money. I’m pretty glad we have Gilbert around to pay huge checks to keep this team together.
HaHaHa! We will have to send Cols a care package of top end beer to help his recovery! Maybe trade Shump for Delly.
I can get behind that move.
Yup… do that trade all day.
Sounds like the Bucks want to sign Derrick Rose.
More power to them. Anytime you can sign a former MVP you gotta do it…
Makes sense. He’s still close to Chicago.
And probably doesn’t have many offers. But I’m sure the Kings or Nets would offer Rose a max deal.
Rose to the Bucks would be a perfect situation for him. He won’t need to be the top guy and can help those young guys develop. The bucks will be scary soon.
Possible issue with that is he still may think he’s the top guy, and I haven’t seen much sign that he cares about helping younger guys develop…sure didn’t see that in Ne York…
https://twitter.com/ESPNCleveland/status/881883663071412228
Ugh. That sucks. I was looking forward to the Billups era. Let the Koby era begin!!!!
Is Koby Karl in the running?
I do not get this reference. Either I suck. Or you suck at references.
His name is actually Coby Karl. George Karl’s kid. Who is Koby?
Our current GM. Koby Altman. Since you are on the CtB advisory board, you should know this.
Tarik Black just got cut by the Lakers. He could not stay on the court with the warriors and isn’t even a center.
Tori Black though…
Centers that can stay on the court with the warriors:
Tristan Thompson, Demarcus Cousins, KAT, Embiid, Steven Adams, Jokic, Gobert.
That’s the list. TT is not overpaid. And no, Nate, Thomas Robinson and Tyler Zeller can’t even sniff the court for their sucky teams let alone play vs the warriors. Come on man.
Sounds like Billups is passing which…ahhhhh hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
On to Jalen Rose…
My stomach just turned.
GIVE THE PEOPLE….WHAT THEY WANT…..
It looks bad that you couldn’t get your one and only target, because you were unwilling to give up any power. Dan Gilbert is the quintessential meddling owner.
I would not trade TT for Melo, especially since I think Melo may eventually get bought out.
No way do we trade Love for Melo. That was dumb last year & is even dumber now. Don’t see them taking Shump back. TT + Frye works for me as long as we get a big back. Personally, I love TT but we could get a guy to do his job for less $$$$.
Maybe you haven’t noticed what FA are getting paid this year. TT is a bargain.
Yep. And last year too. Anyone that thinks TT is overpaid is not paying attention. A young Iron man who is one of the few bigs that can stay on the court vs the warriors and actually thrive (yes, I know he struggled a bit in this year’s Finals)? You’d expect to pay more.
Actually guys with TT’s skill set are going to make less this year cause the cap went down and so Many teams are capped out. Could Tarik Black, Thomas Robinson, Tyler Zeller or do 85% of what TT does? Probably. Mike muscala and his ability to hit threes? The Cavs must find a way to sit LeBron 12 minutes a night. If moving TT does that, so be it.
OMG, no. Thomas Robinson and Tyler Zeller??!!!!!!!!!!!
Tyler Zeller can do 85% of what TT does??? What are you smoking? You must have some kind of vape contraption.
BTW, a couple of weeks ago I heard the Howard Stern show. When he gives the obnoxious a$$hole act a rest, Stern is the funniest person ever. He was having a long discussion with Seth Rogan, mostly about getting stoned. Stern hasn’t touched it in decades. Rogan, who gets high every day, said anyone who vapes is insane.
Hahaha. Nate is losing it man!!!
Rag-Doll-Physics-Engine Tyler Zeller
Agree with you Nate…. TT’s skill set is trying hard. You can always find guys willing to try hard. TT’s perimeter defense overrated… can’t rebound on defense, can’t defend the rim, can’t make a shot that’s not a dunk. Anyone who thinks TT isn’t overpaid isn’t paying attention.
MIKE THATIS ANOTHER OPTION ALSO—-DO WE STILL HAVE THE RIGHTS TO MORELAND—WE TRADE T.T. ….. MORELAND / TAVARES COULD FILL IN ………NATIONAL MEDIA ALSO SAYING CAVS NEED TO MAKE A DECISION ON CHAUNCEY AND MOVE ON ……AGAIN ( AM SERIOUS WITH THIS ) AGREE WITH EVIL –APPROACH JAMES ‘FRIGGIN ” JONES ABOUT THE G.M. JOB—-GREAT BASKETBALL MIND / FREE UP ROSTER SPOT / KEEP LEBRON HAPPY
JFJ for GM? I like that.
NATE WAS THINKING ON THE SAME LINES ( YOUR TRADE MACHINE FOR MELO ) KNICKS ARE DESPARATE ( AND I THINK MELO IS TOO )—-DO NOT TRADE LOVE !!!!
I love Tristan Thompson, but If the Knicks can be suckered into TT and Shump for Melo and Kyle O’Quinn, I’d be ecstatic.
You are nuts. The Kincks would do that in a New York Second. At this point in time, TT is a better player than Melo.
I know it sounds crazy, but look at O’Quinn’s per possession numbers compared to TT. Even rebounding. He’s not as mobile on the perimeter, but the guy can play. He’s also a far better shooter and shot blocker. If he gives you 85% of TT, then it’s Shump for Melo. Even at this point in his career, Melo is a huge upgrade in terms of talent.
This would be awesome…. do this deal every day.
https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/881740701632954368
Or, how about the Knicks just buy him out?
The Knicks want Kevin Love or James Harden. Fat chance Jimmy Dolan.
Only way I trade for Melo. http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=jl82zmt
Yeah. Agree. I just don’t think Cavs will give up Love for Melo, and the rest of our pieces are role players who thrive because of LBJ, and who would not have much value to a team like the Knicks. So if Knicks trade him, it seems almost a certainty he goes to Houston over Cleveland. Which, of course, will cause more panic amongst Cavs fans. But I don’t see any way around it. If he gets bought out, on the other hand, he will end up here.
Yup…. this is definitely the deal.
What about Luc Mbah a Moute? He declined player option with Clippers. Could we get him for MLE? Isn’t he the ultimate 3 and D guy?
He’d be a great get. Can actually match up with KD
He made like $2m last year. In pretty sure he should be our number 1 priority at this point.
But we can’t offer him much.
Mid level…
He shot 39% from 3 last season.
Plus we’d get to hear Austin say “The King, passes it to THE PRINCE for the HEAT CHECK”
PO picks:
W = GSW, SAS, Hou, OKC, Utah (Hayward), Minny, Denver, Portland.
E = Cavs, Raps, Celtics, Wiz, Bucks, Heat, Philly, Charlotte.
Here’s a wish list for our remaining 3 spots. Cedi Osman comes over for 1. We need some post-up play & physicality = Z-Bo. Tony Allen for the last spot. If we have to ship Shump to make it happen, I’m fine with that. We’d then have a spot open for the Melo/Wade buyout later & can use 2 way contract guys or JFJ for the last spot.
I LOVE IT – Trick or Treat Tony. Make it happen!
https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/881709065205841921
These older guys are getting a lot of money, but on three year deals. This is a great signing for Denver on paper. He can be the muscle for Jokic in the paint.
Holy Cow! Otto Porter is going to get paid! I mean I like the kid’s game but seriously?
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/19792822/sacramento-kings-offer-otto-porter-jr-max-contract
I like Porter, but if I’m the Wizards, I don’t match that offer.
Another vet min 3 and D guy I might try is Brandon Rush.
Here’s what I’ve been looking at:
http://www.nba.com/freeagents/2017
Nice… thanks for the link
I am going to laugh so hard if Boston misses out on Hayward.
Now that PG is off the board and Ingles resigned with Utah, I think Utah probably has the edge.
Their situation is getting hilarious.
Has Arron Afflalo’s name been thrown out there? Might be a decent get.
I think he’s available. He was waived by the Kings I believe.
He is forked
IDK… over 40% from 3 and he’s only 31. It does suck that he’s played for crappy teams so might have bad habits.
Do the Sixers make the playoffs this season?
Should take Chicago’s spot
No. Losing culture and too young.
They picked up Reddick, and if Embiid can stay healthy, I think they’ve got a shot.
Reddick’s shooting and veteran status will help… but he’s not running the team. Embiid’s good, but I don’t buy him carrying a team yet. KAT’s better and he couldn’t get Minny last year over the hump, and I’m not sure the threshold was much different in the West last year… granted it’s a totally different story this year.
When Embiid’s healthy he’s better than KAT. His numbers were off the chart last season.
KAT still put up better numbers across the board last year from what I’m seeing. More points, more rebound, higher PER, higher shooting %s, etc…
He played 31 games on a minute restriction.
Ah… gotcha.
Embiid 10x better defensive player.
East is weaker, they have talent. If majority of things clicks for them, a 7th-8th seed isnt out of ppssibility.
Agreed, it’s possible… but if you’re asking me do they make it, I’m gonna go with no.
Yea, especially since the East has gotten even weaker.
If Embiid stays healthy (big if) I think it’s a sure thing.
Let’s say Korver never got traded here last season and we signed him right now as a free agent to this contract – we would all be ecstatic and jumping out of our seats. He’s definitely going to get more run, unlike JFJ or previous year signings like Marion or Dunleavy.
Is Frye now expendable? If he weren’t such a good locker room presence, I’d think they’d be trying to move that contract too.
We wouldn’t had been able to sign him to this contract if he wasn’t traded here.
I was wondering about Frye too. They probably have to keep him though for the regular season eating up minutes as a big man.
Minnesota is looking really good right now.
Wiggins has to make that jump to the next level
With all the scoring talent on that team, I would say he just has to become a better defender. He has the tools to become an elite lockdown perimeter defender. If he does that, you have two elite perimeter defenders on a team with Towns in the middle. Of course, if anyone watched Wiggins last year. He has a long ways to go in that department. On the other hand, Thibs is his coach and you now have a top 10 player coming in who is a Thibs disciple and loves the guy and another Thibs disciple in Gibson. I… Read more »
Butler isnt a top 10 player but i get what you’re saying.
He is in my top 10. LBJ, Durant, Kawhi, Curry, Westbrook, Harden, Davis, Paul, Butler/George in some order. Just outside Green (because I refuse on principle), Towns, Wall in some order.
Maybe antetekumpo is right outside with Towns, Wall and Green too.
LBJ KD kawhi harden westbrook curry AD Cousins Wall CP3.
Wall made the leap for me in the playoffs. I’d put in Thomas first before Butler since he made the MVP list last year majority of the season. Id give Butler in the top 15. Anyways this story is for another day..
Don’t forget the MVP is a joke.
Yeah I can’t put Thomas in there because of the defensive side and because he will always have problems in the playoffs. Same thing with Cousins. Not sure even now cousins is better than KAT.
Yeah, he has a higher ceiling than Iguodala yet he might end up as a lesser version of him in the long run.
They should make the playoffs this year.
Absolutely. It’s a failed season or they don’t.
They need to add depth on the wings tho.
Glad to see KK coming back. Hoping that missed shot in game three makes his off-season a better one, in regards to getting in shape both mentally and physically.
I like what we are doing so far. Only thing that bothers me is Calderon’s defense. Lack there of.
Thabo and/or Tony Allen I think is very pricey yet realistic to some degree.
I see so many Melo workouts on the web.. I think when he’s bought out, he’s gonna join Wade in Chicago.
Unless Chicago is paying him some crazy money, why go there? He only has 2-3 seasons, at most, of being relevant, after that he’ll be Vince Carter 2.0. He needs to join a contender asap before he retires without a ring.
He’s never been the defender or passers-by that carter is now.
Calderon’s defense doesn’t bother me at all given the fact he’s replacing Deron… their career DBPM are nearly identical.
Uhh.. so its ok to have another turnstile guy on defense??
Shelving Mack and/or Patrick Patterson?!?!?
“Shelvin”
Mack sucks. But I’d take Paterson. He should get more than the vet min though.
Cavs should sign Hibbert just to piss you off! ?
Oh man.
What sort of contract is James Johnson going for?
Another possibility.
I don’t think we’ll know until more other mid tier guys get signed. Last year he was at a 4 mill 1 year deal. The two years before he was a 2.6 million per year MLE with Toronto. Maybe we could get him with the MLE if things fall our way…
Cavs should sign all of the Plumlees, but I think league rules would prohibit a team signing more than 15 players.
Would have rather they got Sergio Rodriguez than Calderone
Eh. Both pretty past their prime.
Cavs should look at maybe adding Tony Allen and Sefalosha.
Either one would be great.
In this market, they might be overpaying, but it was good to out it to bed.
http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/246699/Players-Surprised-By-Restraint-From-Teams-Spending-In-2017-Offseason
Fascinating how many guys are going to have to take less than they thought. Guys like Rudy Gay are going to eat it.
Derrick Rose on a Vet min?
Haha no! Way worse than DWill.
What do you think Rudy Gay’s getting in this climate?
8 mil
Maybe.
Basically this has to get done. It did. Gilbert spent the money despite still having shumpert on the books. That is good.
Great job Cavs!
ALSO GIVE KORVER ( SIMILAR TO LOVE )A WHOLE PRE-SEASON TO ACCLIMATE HIMSELF TO SYSTEM / PLAYERS ——–HE IS A ” YOUNG ” 36 AS HE KEEEPS HIMSELF IN TOP SHAPE AND AS WE SAW IS AN UNDERRATED DEFENDER —FOR THAT PRICE I THINK CAVS GOT A BARGAIN
I’m sure that missed shot at the end of Game 3 is being replayed in his mind over and over again… should be good motivation all offseason. He makes that and it’s a different series..
Not mad at this deal. He gets a full season w/ the Cavs + full offseason. He can’t play worse in the Finals hypothetically since he’s now gotten his first taste of the bright lights. Definitely coming back with something to prove too.
I was arguing his value earlier with a friend and I was surprised that’s Korver was on minus 5 during the Finals.
That’s amazing considering he didn’t shoot it well.
Yup… good take Jonathan.
Had to sign him, fair deal. If he stays healthy, should be very good deal for the Cavs.
This is a great move. Run it back!!!
Dig it. I’m not sure what Cavs fans were thinking the team could realistically do this offseason. Retaining Korver was huge because he would been another first round pick wasted by Griffin in a deal if he bolted. They’ve played it smart and patient. Cap space is drying up, and there will be guys taking veteran minimums in a week.
Yep. The amount of panic and crazy talk the last few days has been completely divorced from the reality of the Cavs situation.
Underrated team defender. Will never be lock down but played the passing lanes and post very tough.
