Breaking: Cavs (Finally) Complete Kyrie Irving Trade with Celtics
2017-08-30We waited nine days to find out whether the Cavs/Celtics trade was going to go down or whether the Cavs were going to walk away due to Isaiah Thomas’ hip issue. Turns out that adding a minor piece to the deal was enough to get it done according to this WojBomb.
Boston will send its 2020 second-round pick via Miami to Cavaliers to complete the trade, league sources said. Boston would budge no more.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) August 31, 2017
The final deal terms will be as such: Cleveland will receive Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, Brooklyn’s 2018 first-round draft pick, Miami’s 2020 second round pick, and a $5 million trade exception.
Personally, I hated the deal nine days ago and I hate it now. Unless the Cavs flip the Brooklyn pick for another guard, Cleveland is done competing for championships unless Isaiah Thomas or Derrick Rose learn how to play defense (and Derrick Rose learns how to shoot). Still, there’s always that possibility, and an outside chance that the Cavs roll through playoff crunchtime with ‘Bron at the point.
I also hated the nine day delay because the Cavs look like a team that is going to jerk you around for 10 days only to eventually cave if you stick to your guns. It looks bad on two fronts and the loss of face was not worth a 2020 second rounder from Miami.
But now, we can finally, formally say goodbye to six year Cavalier, Kyrie Irving, an enigmatic brightspot during LeBron’s exodus. Irving helped fuel one of the greatest comeback in American pro sports history and hit the biggest shot ever in an NBA Finals. He, LeBron, and the rest of that magical 2016 Cavs team propelled Cleveland to its only championship in the last 53 years. We will always remember him for that. Best of luck in the future, Mr. Irving. May you have a long & healthy career as an Eastern Conference runner up.

A 2nd round pick is garbage. Yeah, second round picks periodically are good. But so are undrafted free agents. And if you had any ability to tell that Green or IT or others would turn out halfway decent, you would have drafted them in the 1st round! The vast majority of 2nd round picks are not even in the league a couple years later. Many don’t even make the roster their first year! This trade hinges on whether or not IT can play relatively soon this year, and whether he can play anywhere near the level that he played with… Read more »
2nd round picks are not worth much, but can be thrown in a trade as additional fodder.
Maybe attaching a second rounder to Shump will help to ship him off somewhere.
Now that this trade has be completed, are there any possibilities of trading Shump?
I’m not sure anyone wants him. He’s literally garbage. Factoring in his contract, he might be the worst player in the NBA.
Cmon now. Evan Turner? Timofey Mozgov? Luol Deng? Brandon freaking Knight? Joachim Noah? These just off the top of my head. Shump’s contract is reasonable in the new CBA.

Let’s all freak out and analyze the heck out of this and say that this means he is for sure, 100% staying in Cleveland. After all, if he says anything about someone leaving it means he is for sure, 100% leaving…
Just in case you were worried…
https://twitter.com/cavsdan/status/903289520531140608
Although this is probably more because he won’t own the team when the lease expires in 2027…
Yep. “I’ll just SELL the team to someone who will move it.”
10 years is a long time. He should probably try and to bring this issue up again in a year, when there won’t be a mayorial race.
The main push for this current timetable (I believe) was that Dan wanted to have the Q ready for 2020-21 so Cleveland could host an ASG…
I wonder if the could just push the AS game to 2022-2024?
Awesome tweet…
https://twitter.com/Jake_Friel/status/903099479846506496
It applies to Ky but not Haden. The Browns were trying to be cheap and it back fired by him going to Pittsburgh. I don’t care for football, not one bit, so I’m hoping Haden sticks it to them the two times he sees them.
Why? Haden sucked. He’s been injured too many times and makes a ton of money. The analytics say he is an awful player now. You think the Browns are being cheap? The same front office that shelled out $16M for a 2nd round draft pick?
I was only commenting due to the tweet about him and Kyrie turning into villains (which is rather stupid since we are talking sports).
To say he has become a “villain” because he went to Pittsburgh is dumb. Maybe the cheap/money aspect of my comment was uncalled for since I don’t follow football enough to know what a comparable player gets paid.
Regarding the Browns, I will stop myself from passing judgement on them since I don’t know enough.
Glad this is a Cavs blog and not a Browns’ one ;)
Guys, this is what the Dubs want! They want us to fight between ourselves! Can’t we all just get along?!
We can all critique this trade based on our speculations as to what the Cavs could had done or gotten in return but it’s fruitless without having definitive information as to IT’s injury. Is he going to play opening night? Is he going to miss a week, month, half the season? Were the Cavs truly offered something equal/better from another team? Also not one of us was present during the Kyrie meeting fiasco and neither during the negotiations with Boston/whomever else. For anyone of us to say Altman/Dan could had gotten something better is rather foolish. For all we know… Read more »
Yet, bottom line is that they traded an All Star for damaged goods, hope and Jae Crowder… maybe it was the best they could get, but I’m still dubious… hope it works out for the best…
That is all we can hope for. It really sucks and I wish Kyrie wasn’t such an ahole but what can we do but wait for the season to play out? Bummer…
I’m hoping the byproduct is that we get angry LeBron on a mission this season…
EG, you are turning into Cols, saying the same goofy stuff over an over. Did you forget that KI demanded a trade way late in the off season?
Raoul, you’re starting to remind me of Cols yourself… tread lightly ;)
Evil, you are NOTHING like Cols. Raoul’s insult is probably the worst imaginable insult on this site.
I understand your trepidation with the trade but it really seems like we can’t seriously evaluate it until we see when IT actually does return and how the season plays out for the Nets…if IT comes back strong 4 weeks in, this is a great trade for the Cavs, if he doesn’t play this season it’s a terrible value for KI unless the Nets pick is the number one pick…but at this point evaluating the trade is just purely speculation…
Eh, I get that IT is injured, but this feels like a play by Cleveland to force Boston into giving us more. At the end of the day, do we really think we would make this trade if we felt IT would be useless? I highly doubt it.
Anything is possible… as most have said… only time will tell…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lza2H-fj5Es
The fact is, all of the talking heads likely don’t know squat about IT’s injury. Like we’ve discussed on here, the status of his injury is, legally speaking, very sensitive… I find Woj’s report that he could be out most of the season to hold no water. It’s based purely on speculation and observation of various other hip injuries. Maybe the delay was a ploy to get another asset, maybe they had another offer come in last minute that they wanted to think more about and the story got legs.
In other thoughts, think the Cavs try to bring in Kay and Tavares on two way contracts after training camp?
Not sure either would make it through waivers tbh…
Really? Tavares, maybe, but kay?
Nets would do it, just to mess with the new owners of their pick… or maybe Celtics so they can turn him into the next tiny PG…
Dubs would probably snap Kay up…they are light years ahead…
They should give Sir Dominic Pointer a two way deal.
I hope IT is healthy and the Cavs can flip him
Little guys are usually easier to flip. Maybe they should bounce him off a trampoline.
I am favor of an IT flip. I still think this trade would work, even if IT was out a bit. One challenge is we can’t package IT with other players until later in season.
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y8fx9yjr
I HOPE YOU ARE RIGHT ( THE OTHER JASON )— THAT WOULD HELP ALOT OF PEOPLE ( INCLUDING MYSELF ) EMBRACE THIS TRADE
Looks like IT has a movie coming out.
This comment deserved a better response. Nice one Arch.
Welcome Nate and EG to the player haters ball.
I think the consummation of this trade validates that IT2K will be ready to play within a month or two of season start.
The 2020 pick is neither a black eye nor a feather in the cap for the cavs; i think its just a bit of face saving on both sides.

Agree with TOJ. There is so much unknown about this trade that no one can make a good projection of how it will turn out. Is it likely to be better than the Pacers and the Bulls did? That is setting the bar pretty low.
Last time I checked, the Pacers and Bulls weren’t competing for championships…
I would say that even if IT wasn’t included in the deal at all that it would still be better than the jokes that the Bulls and Pacers pulled on their fans… At the very least we get a 3 and D versatile wing defender on one of the best contracts in the league and a draft pick that is virtually guaranteed to be a lottery and holds a possibility of being a number one overall and has had offers around the league for years…
The “well at least it wasn’t as bad a deal as what those guys made” doesn’t hold water with me… sorry
I’m not sure why? That’s how markets work. The market for stars wasn’t exactly garnering godfather offers from anyone. I’d rather that then more B****** follow the team throughout the season. LeBron brings enough drama on his own. We don’t need a disgruntled KI holding out and not showing up or making everyone miserable…
IIRC, this team has thrived despite the bs for the last three years or so… Look, just because something better didn’t materialize (that we know of), doesn’t mean that I have to personally like the trade or how the situation has played out. Does that make me unreasonable? Apparently to some on this board, but that’s what’s great about opinions… everyone gets to have one, and nobody’s is unassailably correct… I hope I’m proven wrong over time… nothing would make me happier
Oh you absolutely are allowed to have your opinion. I certainly respect yours in regards to the NBA and the Cavs. I also don’t think you are unreasonable. I was just trying my hand at another counterpoint. Debating is fun as evidenced by the IT2k thread haha. As for the team thriving on BS, its true until it isn’t… I’d rather keep it to “LeBron is leaving and Love is getting traded” if at all possible…
THANK YOU EVIL !!–

Count me in the camp of people who are re-grading the trade downward now that we know IT has legit injury problems. HOWEVER, this is still the best haul out there, and it allows us to make additional, significant moves to make the roster even better. We all need to be patient and see how this ends.
Bottom line: the situation sucks, but the person to blame here is Kyrie not Altman. Koby did well in my book.
Except that part where he held out for a week for a second round draft pick in three years… oh well, hindsight is a 2020 pick…
I don’t understand this critique. No one actually knows what happened with the medical review by the Cleveland Clinic — one of the best hospitals in the world. It seems reasonable that the Cavs would want to take their time and re-visit the discussion if they learned something new. And if the thing they learned that was new was problematic, but not a major problem, then getting a 2nd round pick is a good thing.
If they learned something new… e.g. IT would need surgery or wouldn’t be able to play for much of the year, then the right move would be to cancel the deal unless they got something of real value like a promising player (Tatum, Brown) or another first round pick. Taking a second rounder in 2020 is laughable. Either have some stones and void the deal, or accept the deal you made if you believe IT will be okay at some point this year. A 2020 second rounder will have very little impact on anything this team does this year… just… Read more »
@EG — I agree. So doesn’t the fact that they took a 2nd rounder suggest that what they learned was worse than expected but not a major problem? For example, perhaps they thought he would be ready for opening night, and now they think he is out for 4 weeks of season. If that is the case, then a 2nd rounder seems right. Your argument hinges on the belief that they either learned something catastrophic or learned nothing at all. But both scenarios are in fact unlikely. Also, you are not presenting any evidence that they had a better deal… Read more »
There is evidence elsewhere that they had better offers of actual healthy players if they want to try and win now (Bledsoe, the Milwaukee guys). Anyone who thinks this trade wasn’t solely for the Brooklyn pick so @CavsDan can have the option of a new #1 to start the rebuild, is fooling themselves and drinking the kool aid…
We’ll see what they do with the Brooklyn pick. If they use it to get a key piece, I assume you will be the first to praise the move ;)
Also, just a week ago you were saying LeBron was 100% sure to stay. Now you are saying CavsDan is planning a rebuild. Which is it?
Just because I think LeBron is staying doesn’t mean that CavsDan believes he is… I don’t talk to CavsDan… but I do sometimes talk to LBJ and those close to him.
So why do you think LBJ has decided to stay but then put his owner in a position to make deals that (according to you) aren’t designed to help him win? That is what I don’t get.
When has LBJ ever put his cards on the table with ownership? He didn’t force this trade. He’ll simply sit back and evaluate as the year plays out. What I’m saying is CavsDan seems to be hedging his bets against LeBron leaving. He could prove me wrong by using the Nets pick for a win now trade before the deadline, but I have a hard time seeing it at the moment. My only concern is that Dan’s eventual panic over LeBron leaving might wind up causing it to be a self-fulfilling prophecy if he’s not careful…
We don’t know whether it is a major problem or not yet. They may have just accepted the deal with the second rounder because they were nervous about pulling out. There could still be a major problem. The second round pick is a nothing concession for the amount of picks Boston has but if there is a major problem it allows the Cavs front office to say, “hey we held out and got something else to make up for the time IT will miss.” It doesn’t move the needle or mean much of anything as an asset but it allows… Read more »
That is likely because third party teams did not offer a lot better.
It will be interesting to watch how things turn out for Kyrie. It seems like he might have the potential to be a Kobe Bryant type of team leader. OTOH, he may have voluntarily walked away from his last appearance in an NBA Finals.
Probably more the latter than the former… at least as long as LBJ is on the Cavs, or in the EC for that matter… or the C’s find a way to get Anthony Davis… For as talented as Kyrie is, leadership has never been his strong suit… I guess we’ll see…
Are you kidding? Koby at least is scary looking. KI couldn’t intimidate the water boy.
I think you mean Kobe… wait are you Koby Altman?
I love all the angst about ITs hip from people who love Bledsoe. Remind me, how many knee surgeries for him now?
I think it’s cute how you think IT will even see the court this season…
Do you know something, or is that just a wild guess?
I’ve already put money on it ;)
Is OUR 2018 first rounder, a couple 2nd rounders, and Shump enough to get Bledsoe? What about Shump, Zizic, and Felder?
WHERE IS DELLLY ( AND COLS ) WHEN WE NEED THEM——HEY DID I MENTION I AM A PROUD PAPA OF A BEAUTIFUL ‘ LITTLE PRINCESS ” —-MIGHT AS WELL PUT LIFE IN PERSPECTIVE —ENJOY IT –DON’T FRET OVER IT—- ( MILLIONS OF PEOPLE IN HOUSTON AREA COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THIS TRADE )—LIFE GOES ON WITH OR WITHOUT KYRIE ( AND PROBABLY I.T. )
Congrats NOMAD!
Great news!
It’s a completely different sport but anyone on here play fantasy football? Would be fun to be in a league with you guys.
I would definitely be down!
So basically, Cavs don’t have a point guard now. Maybe they can run an awesome line up of IT in a wheelchair, Derrick Rose, Calderon, Shump, and Jeff Green
I have never heard anything about the biggest gift the Cavs received. A $30 million dollar luxury tax credit
I hear the credit can fill it up but is a minus defender.
Can’t switch the p/r
Sad still..
Is there any expectation that Kyrie will write a (brief) letter to the Cleveland fans?
Who cares? Does anyone think it would be authentic? Dude had little interest in Cleveland.
He’s always been a dick. I wouldn’t expect anything.
Amen. My only regret is that we couldn’t find a way to trade him to Miami so Dion could beat him up some more.
Lets find a way to unload Shump & sign Tony Allen.
HaHa, I was thinking the same thing. Somebody thinks KI will become a great leader in Boston. HaHaHa on that.
Sorry… didn’t mean to come across as a jerk. Anyways, I think you get my drift.
Good point Nate! We all remember Kyrie as the #1 option. He’s a better player now then he was during the Cavs dark ages, but he’s still pretty immature so I’m not sure he’s much of a leader, and he doesn’t have LeBron to protect him from injury. Also how will Stevens and Kyrie work together? Remember Rondo wouldn’t listen to Stevens play call and he’d just run his own stuff. WE STILL HAVE LEBRON JAMES FOR AT LEAST ONE MORE SEASON!!!!
I wonder if Kyrie told the Russians to hack C:tb?
Yeah, they are blocking Cols. Don’t forget the only two big meteors in recorded history both hit Russia. Just saying ….
We aren’t blocking Cols. Except when he repeats behavior we’ve asked him not to repeat.
Sorry, I meant the RUSSIANS are blocking Cols.
So here’s one upside: Kyrie has had a balky knee the last three seasons. So we don’t have to worry about that. Boston plays Kelly Olynyk…
Yeah, it could always be a terrible trade for Boston if KI is constantly banged up…
Olynyk signed with the Heat
Be pretty funny to listen to Celtic fanboys complain about Olynyk…I suppose he’d be more than just ‘clumsy’ if he did it to one of their players…
Now THAT would be instant karmic awesome… Ky gets his knee taken out when clumsy she-oaf falls into it… Al Horford tries to drop an elbow on Kelly’s head and St. Weirdo starts throwing punches… Then the sockless curmudgeon gets into a fight to the death with Danny Ainge…
Who’s the sockless curmudgeon?
Word!
Wow! Ballet slippers and shaved legs! Who knew?
I can’t wait to hear Simmons rationalize that…he’ll go from ‘He’s just a clumsy nerd’ to ‘He’s always been dirty, and we just overlooked it!’.
Kyrie’s future health concerns were an underplayed aspect to the deal.
Very much so. Stitched-together kneecaps & players who stop on a dime don’t go well together. But hey, he’s healthy right now I guess so passes the physical…
If the cavs are operating for the future, they’re already boned. Boston has so many more future assets.
If the Cavs squeezed the Laker or Memphis pick from the Celtics then I would’ve been more on board.
Yep. Bottom line.
Something poetic about IT wearing St. Weirdo’s old number as a Cav… hope we actually see him wear it on the court…

I will be too, the second I learn the extent of IT’s injury. Before we knew the hip was an issue, this trade was just ok. Now it has no grade from me. It will either go down as terrible or be just ok as it was before.
So who on the Cavs is going to guard Kyrie in a 7-game series? Seems like a need for the next two to several years.
Oh… please let it be Shump! PLEAAAAASE!
I’ve got a not-so-peaceful, queasy feeling…
I hate the f#ckin Eagles, man…

IT…if he’s out of the hospital…
The Brooklyn pick guards the best players for a century.
IT….if he’s out of the hospital…
I hope Irving demands a trade after this year. That would be poetic. Mmmmm, I can just picture the look on Ainge’s face if Irving came to him with that.
The Brooklyn pick guards the best player for a century. That’s the deal with that pick according to the experts.
Not sure why my comment posted twice? Said it needed moderation after it didn’t post the first time. Anyways, my apologies.
Same here. I will never understand the moderation filter…
It was set to “Koby Altman”
I’ll start spelling it ‘Colby’…
Shump? May as well be him.
Don’t matter. Who guarded him before LeBron came back and the Cavs had the worst record every year?
On the positive side, I think Crowder will help….
I wonder if he got his apology from JR yet…
https://youtu.be/FD796H08J7w
If the Cavs don’t use the Brooklyn pick to acquire an asset that will help them beat the Dubs in the finals, then they’re out of their minds. There is no guarantee the Cavs will ever be back to the finals, let alone have the opportunity to compete for a championship. They will never have anyone as talented as LeBron, so if they’re not all in then they’re stupid!
You’re going to have to pry it from @CavsDan’s cold dead tiny little hands…
Superman is not available, so why blow the future for nothing?
It’s fun winning 20 games a year right?!?!
Fun watching Nick Gilbert wear his bow tie…
Fun watching a loaded Rizzo on national TV. Now I can get behind this trade.
Not true… Dwight was a FA this summer… he’s in Charlotte now…
Depends on LeBron. And what we can get. And how bad Brooklyn is. If James won’t commit (and he likely won’t), then the Cavs would be stupid to spend a pick that could net a franchise level player to appease a guy who is leaving. Especially if all we get is a short term rental.
Not.
Pretty much:
https://twitter.com/JasonLloydNBA/status/903105767821254656
They could and still may flip the pick for short term help if they think it will really help their chances of keeping James. Of course since we don’t have any other high value trade assets we will would probably be burning it for short term help that might not be worth the pick, if by some miracle the cavs luck out in the lottery a fourth time in ten years.
How is LeBron even going to find IT on the court if he makes it back? That’ll take an awfully low corner bullet pass…
http://media.thehoopdoctors.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/little.jpg
Those bullet passes will be pretty sick for the fans catching them in the teeth.
Nah, LeBron is good with bounce passes!
Very rare to see a crosscourt skip bounce passes. Defenders would basically have to be looking at the scoreboard.
Even a bounce would probably go over his head…
Healthy IT versus gone for most of the year IT is a huge difference… should’ve held out for a 1st rounder. Gilbert too scared of losing that Brooklyn pick IMO.
I sincerely hope IT’s hip isn’t as bad as the reports suggest.
Don’t the Cavs sponsor a wheelchair basketball league?
It would be pretty pretty pretty cool if Dan sent Kyrie out with a Comic Sans Thank You letter… then of course shot IT out of a cannon.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCjPO1Sd3Vw
These are great. Thanks E.G.!
I would have backed out of the deal and let Kyrie sit the next two years if he wanted, and watch his millions go down the drain.
Yep, didn’t buy the sitting out. But if he did imagine Helicopter Dred screaming at Dan and LeBron during games.
Agree Nate. If they weren’t willing to nix the trade they shouldn’t have held it up in the first place. A 2020 second rounder is basically a bag of jockstraps. Altman looks stupid, I think. They should’ve backed out and let Boston sweat it out. I understand a lottery pick is a nice asset, but it does nothing for winning a title and it does even less to keep Lebron where he is. As much as I think Kyrie is a royal douchebag for all of this, the FO looks stupid. Gilbert is brutally incompetent.
Second rounder in other hands could be lucrative… for instance, two of the guys the Cavs just got back for their number one overall PG were second rounders… of course the Cavs don’t have quite as much luck with second round picks (sorry Killer Shrimp!)
The Dubs have recently done quite nicely with late second round picks.
Dray I’ll give you… the others the jury is still out…
Thems the Dubs. They have a track record of great scouting and have hit on basically every pick for the last 10 years without having a top 3. Curry, Thompson, Green were all picks that were higher than many had them. We don’t have a track record of finding gems without number 1s.
Although I guess Green slipped. Still they got him.
JoeyB: get help.
For those feeling despondent, this **https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t91ypNncvAk** will improve your mood. Larkin Poe will be at some event in Cleveland in a week or so. They were with Bob Seger in Detroit a couple days ago.
No one should be feeling despondent, yet. If we learn IT is out until January or February, we should be wary. If we learn he is out until march, we should be pissed. If IT is out for much of the season or a few months in the early part of the season and LBJ begins to get ancy about having more help, that is when we get despondent. That is because it would probably lead to either us trading the Brooklyn pick for pennies on the dollar for short term help, or the cavs refusing to trade it and… Read more »
I’m sure him needing season ending surgery will break sometime during First Take tomorrow…
I think the Brooklyn pick is gone mid year for someone like Anthony. We will now probably have to use it to get more pieces. IT isn’t tradeable at this point. So that pick becomes one of the few assets we have to pick up some more help for LBJ. I wouldn’t assume LBJ is automatically coming back if I were the cavs, especially with this deal. That will probably force their hand into using the pick for 75 cents on the dollar.
Cavs can trade their own 2018 pick if they keep the Brooklyn pick.
Somehow I have a feeling the Brooklyn pick gets shipped for something dumb. If LBJ is unhappy midseason, I think it is gone. No guarantee he will be. But if IT is out for an extended period and LBJ ends up being the lone useful (rose and Calderon don’t fit that description) ball handler, his minutes and workload will jump significantly in the early part of the season.
Anthony?
I wouldn’t do it for that, but I could see a nervous front office do it. Unless they know LBJ is gone already.
Anthony Who? Or Who Anthony?
Melo
The only Anthony I’d trade the pick for…
http://images2.onionstatic.com/onion/2915/0/original/800.jpg
If only…
You have lost your mind.
I would think twice about trading Shump for Anthony. He has screwed up EVERY team he has played on. How do you think LeBron would like never touching the ball?
I wouldn’t do it, ever. I could see the cavs doing it.
@CavsDan will not surrender that pick until LeBron whispers in his fuzzy ear that he’s staying…
You may be right. Though I shudder to think of LBJ wanting more help from flipping the pick and the cavs denying it to him…
Honestly, if Leslie Alexander weren’t selling the Rockets, I’d be looking at Dan Gilbert to cash out this year.
He should’ve sold it last summer. Would’ve been be perfect time.
Do you have a reason to think he is selling? Or have you joined the Hate Gilbert Fantasy league?
Is that a thing? What’s the buy in?
If you question Gilbert’s track record as an owner, you hate him. You don’t get it.
https://youtu.be/VQIhEbpdYWM
I will pay money if DG introduces IT in a wheel chair… then of course shoots him out of a cannon.
I’ll pay money if DG takes a hike
It’s such a double edged sword. No one pays the bills he does.
Him paying the massive bills has actually strapped us into some really dumb contracts. Need an owner who knows management more than one who is just spotting massive bills.
Not really true. Cavs are pretty much over the cap with Kyrie, LeBron, and Love. So the other contracts don’t really impact our inability to sign other players, not already on our team.
You guys are all in need of mental health evaluation. LeBron would not be back without Gilbert going to Miami and promising to open his wallet. He totally has, and you guys are all sniping because KI is an idiot. What the heck more could Gilbert have done?
Taught Kyrie Chemistry, Biology, Calculus, AP French…
Not traded an All Star for a gimp…
You might not have heard, but KI demanded a trade.
Last time I checked, Eric Bledsoe, Malcolm Brogdon, etc didn’t have a debilitating hip injury that might still require surgery…
To be fair, it isn’t altruistic, as some articles I have seen show James coming to a team basically doubles or triples the value of the franchise. Gilbert knew this of course when he promised to spend. Every owner knows this.
Agree 100% with Raoul. Most agree this was a good trade. It is just a lot of the staff & frequent posters are still in love with Kyrie even after he broke up with them. They irrationally hate a player who outperformed Kyrie over the 82 because he doesn’t perform in the playoffs, forgetting he dropped 53 on the Wiz with no help. Or they claim he’s useless vs the Dubs despite the Cs holding GSW below their scoring average with him on court. If you point out Rose averages 28 ppg vs GSW it doesn’t matter. I prefer rational skepticism over irrational hate thank you very much… and you seem to be the one with the irrational love for a tiny PG with a bad wheel…
Raise money for houston. Can we have DG and Felder get out of a clown car?
I’ll trade our 2020 draft pick plus Semih Erden to make it happen.

Pfft. Ainge wins the standoff again. Not surprised. People always give in to him.
Can’t fight stupid.
I feel like as badly as Gilbert is getting outplayed this summer, we should take a trip to Jack Casino.
Gilbert outplayed by who? Been shooting himself in the foot repeatedly
Cavs should’ve walked just to bone the Celtics.
Would have loved to see Ainge stuck with a lame IT.
Yeah, that would have been smart. You guys way overvalue Irving. This is the best deal out there, by far (and I do love me some Kris Middleton). Agree that we looked stupid & petty dragging it out. This was the best deal out there & Boston knew it. Plus, we had zero shot to beat GSW as constructed. Now we at least have assets to improve with at the deadline (our 1st or Brooklyn’s). And more depth. Top 10 last year: James, Irving, Love, JR, TT; Korver, RJ, Deron, Shump, Frye. Only Echilada after + JFJ, D Jones, Felder,… Read more »
If they use the Brooklyn pick to improve the roster with a borderline all-star and pick up a legit playoff PG, then I’m on board.
Cavs/Celtics negotiation recreation (warning explicit language)…

Classic ?
lol……… exactly
I bet Dan Gilbert believes since he’s getting draft picks they’re all #1 overall.
Too bad for Dan they can’t all be studs like Anthony Bennett…
All his number ones (GumDropBear excepted) seem to do better after they leave…
I think Dan Gilbert got all googlie-eyed again when Ainge mention draft picks.
More like this…

2018 Finals in one picture…
Pretty much!
Draymond: “I can barely reach down that far!”
Cavs front office fail so hard
They didn’t even take Ainge down to the deadline?!?
Just a terrible off-season
Maybe IT can be back for the playoffs when he’ll be deemed utterly useless.
Like 53 points worth of useless. IT being useless in the POs would be news to them. Gotto go, the Kyrie worship around here is a bit too high. The objectivity a bit too low.
On 41 shots. Where will he get all those shots?
Never worshipped Kyrie. But he’s a top 15-20 talent. Sorry IT is not, Crowder is not, Semih Erden (Zizik) is not, Anthony Bennett (Brooklyn pick) is not, Kay Felder 2.0 (2020 2nd Round pick is not). NOT!
I don’t even like Irving that much, but he’s about three levels above Thomas when he tries. And that’s a Thomas not hobbled by a bad hip.
How many of those 53 did he score after he aggravated his hip?
Who gets cut for Wade? Do they find a way to move shump?
It sounds like most teams want compensation for taking on Shump, like a first round draft pick.
It would be ironic if they traded the Brooklyn pick back to Boston just so they would take on Shump.
Or back to Brooklyn…
They’ll be able to sign Wade with the injury exception they’ll get once IT needs season ending surgery…

They wanted someone to top the Brooklyn pick as an asset, and no one did. I’m beyond excited to see Crowder next to LeBron. He’ll draw the Shane Battier role. If Wade joins this will be a very Heatles lineup.
I don’t see wade’s lack of shooting as an improvement over 3 and d guys on our roster that can. He isn’t the player he was in Miami to make up for that defensively either. Big name, diminished game. That is his story now,
Can we shoot IT throw a cannon to introduce him at the press conference?
????
If IT sits on Kay Felders shoulders he’s almost as tall as Kyrie?!
See how mean they used to be to him in Bahstahn…
Now to complete this offseason the Cavs bring back Earl Clarke.
6 years of Kyrie.
Good thing you caught that, I was going to riff on the “Seven Year Itch”.
Well… this was a banner day for Cleveland… cut loose Joe Haden so the Steelers could pick him up, and hold out for a whole second round pick three years from now (to go with the other two second round players they got for their former All Star PG)… at least the Tribe swept the Yankees in NY for the first time since 1989…
It was a bummer to see a guy with haden character leave. I get that he’s not that good anymore, and isn’t part of the future aspect.
Watch him pick Kizer twice opening day…
I think Cavs should have taken a harder stance especially with having other suitors for Kyrie. To put that 2nd rounder into perspective, warriors bought second rounders last two years for 2-3 mils. Not sure for Dave G would have done if he were still GM. Interesting to see what a good coach and an offensive system will do to Kyrie’s game. Kyrie, an ex champion, would have to be willing to be coached. For Cavs, they might have to be serious about moving brooklyn pick at trade deadline to compete this year for a young and emerging player(just to… Read more »
My guess is the other suitors were not lining up. No one knows if there really were any.
I would not move the top pick unless it is someone likely to give the Cavs a 50-50 chance in the finals. That seems to be a long shot.
You do whatever you have to to keep Lebron. That is the knock on this trade. If IT can’t play and even if he can, you probably have to move that pick now. We will get pennies on the dollar for it. Shame, but we won’t have enough to convince him to stay in all likelihood without spending it now on more pieces that will not be worth its value.
KD sez Bron stayin’… and we know how good his word is…

Lol, nice. Though in all seriousness, if I thought KD had any connection to LBJ’s camp I would be ecstatic. I haven’t heard that they are close though. Still, I guess it can’t be bad to hear that right, even if it is complete speculation?
So you think LeBron will be impressed with a dumb trade?
Dunno if he would be impressed. It might get him to sign on another year if it gets him some help in the very short term. I don’t think he cares much about the long term prospects. He is trying to have the absolute best shot at winning this year and next year, period.
I hope Bill Simmons regrets losing that Nets pick till his dying day.
This is very tough me. I was a huge Kyrie fan. I will Never understand any of this. Very sad
I would be a much bigger fan if he was not an idiot.
Word. I hope he decides to sail around the world & falls off.
