Tonight, we have a heavyweight matchup with the Bucks taking on the Nets. We will also have Denver against Phoenix and Hawks versus the 76ers, who might be without Joel Embiid. We will also have the winner of Mavs/Clips taking on the awaiting Utah Jazz.
Per CtB tradition, we’re starting a new thread just so they don’t get too unwieldy to navigate… enjoy the show!!!

1. Bogdonavic is the Jazz’s engine.
2. So proud of Ingles (yeah OK, biased). The dude has made the absolute most of his talents.
3. If LAC lose the series, it will have a lot to do with Morris Sr and his boneheaded actions.
A Morrii will always screw you in the end. Can’t wait till these blights are gone from the NBA.

Late TO from Mitchell was poor, but they hang on. Big win without Conley.
Heck of a finish, the Clips never got a good shot to try to tie. I get that Sexton is some variation of the the Mitchell phylum as far as player types, but I just don’t ever see him getting to that level. And I’m not super high on Mitchell. Mitchell is much better at facilitating than I ever see Sexton, better defensively, and a way better shooter off the dribble. I just want to say, for the record, the idea that the Jazz are better with Mitchell off the floor is crazy. I do not care what the advanced stats say.
One positive aspect is that none of the teams left has won it all recently, and many never have. Philly in ’83 (Moses+Dr. J), Nets in 76 (ABA, Dr. J), Bucks in ’71 (Kareem + Oscar), Hawks in ’58 (St. Louis, Bob Pettit). Jazz, Suns, Nuggets, + Clips have never won it.
This is an indication of a well run bench/substitution pattern.

At this point, it’s safe to say that Giannis isn’t the guy. He’s more like a Chris Bosh. Good dude from what I can tell, and certainly a very good overall player, but he doesn’t belong in the conversation as an elite.

Would rather see a small market team win with a guy that signed long term after being drafted than a dual signing superstar team in a big market.
I agree with this take. However, I can’t argue that a bunch of talented, highly paid pros agreeing to join a team together to win a chip is a bad idea because 2016.
But LBJ probably doesn’t come back without some tie to Cleveland. Sure first pick. But by time he signed love deal hadn’t been done yet. Doubt any other superstar would have signed here in that situation.

Was in Jackson, MS in a hotel for work. Had my own victory parade around the parking lot screaming the whole time. The next day some of my non-bball fan coworkers remarked there was a crazy guy shouting nonsense outside in the parking lot.
Was at the in-laws having brunch. They aren’t basketball people, but allowed the game to be on the small tv near the table.
Poor people, they thought they knew me but saw a different fellow on display that morning.
2 weeks later a championship cap & a copy of the Cleveland Plain Dealer (champ edition) arrive in the post from our friends back in the Land. Didn’t even know they had our address.
I was in Grand Forks, ND by myself (too nervous to live thread and twitter LMFAOOOO) pacing back and forth in front of my TV… thinking about it makes me nearly as emotional as I was then, it was truly an inspiring moment. Will never forget the KLOVE stop… thank God he knew Steph wanted a three!!! if you think about it makes sense, he probably doesn’t have the type of control in Miami with Riley there… control over personnel/quasi GM/coach seems like the next step for a lot of the big time coaches. Also I guess he has personal ties to the area, think he went to high school and college there.
But yeah, the ownership stake is a biggie.
I think it’s weird…I’m not across their draft warchest, but this seems like bad timing in the Blazers timeline. I don’t think this season’s outcome was a coaching issue – they just don’t have the cattle to support Lillard. But if Spo has ties to the area, then asking for ownership makes complete sense – he’ll have a say in the hand he is dealt.
100% Agree Simmo, I don’t think they should’ve fired their coach, they probably should’ve fired their GM, especially because they weren’t willing to part with Collins or Simons to upgrade their roster.
Outside of game 5, where he kind of disappeared down the stretch, Kawhi played like the best player in the playoffs this series. Doncic with a ridiculous carry of the Mavs. No team should ever want to play him in the playoffs again.

Bud after the game saying they have a lot of depth, and “gotta keep (the starters) fresh”. So he’s giving washed scrubs like Teague minutes because of their ‘depth’, instead of playing Giannis 40+ minutes. (He also felt the need to rest Lopez huge minutes, when he is one of their better matchups)

Y’know, I don’t think they had to lose this game – just played stupid to get in the 10-12 point hole in the first place. Once Nets started playing downhill & the crowd got into it, that was that. I mean, I get having Tucker out there to guard Durant, but looking to him to score mid-range contested jump shots while Giannis was roaming around the 3 pt line?? That’s a special kind of stupid.
I think they’ll make some adjustments to play Forbes and Portis more. Had some outlier type things in terms of their poor 3 point shooting, Middleton and Holiday both being off, and Blake Griffin having an all-star type performance.
