Quick Takes/Offseason Open Thread Part Deux

Apologies for the slow pace during the offseason, but things should pick up soon…. here’s where things stand today:
1. Isaac Okoro strikes a deal
Restricted free agent Isaac Okoro became the last Woj bomb and final piece to the Cavs slop season by signing a three year, 38 million dollar deal to remain with the good guys. As free agency went along, the market spoke and decided that Ice was far more valuable to the Cavs than any other NBA team. As such, the Cavs retain a core rotation piece at only a slightly inflated price. If Coach Kenny Atkinson can unlock some more offense out of him, the contract could become extremely valuable in the near future. At worst, the Cavs have themselves the consummate regular season “innings eater” that is necessary to keep a good team afloat when the inevitable injury bug hits. Congrats big dawg!
2. Coach Kenny (and Spida) get their man

Coach Kenny Atkinson has appointed New York Knicks assistant Johnnie Bryant to the associate head coaching position for the Cavs, securing the services of the coach credited with Donovan Mitchell’s professional development. Interesting that like Atkinson, Bryant cut his teeth in the NBA as a skills development coach and worked his way up the ranks. IMO, this is a smart move given the relative youth of the team and the need to extract more winning production out of their younger players. Also, anything to show Donovan Mitchell that he’s the face of the franchise has to be considered a good move.

KAT is WAAAY overrated, IMHO. He is a #2-#3 level guy.
I think he’s properly rated. He’s a top 7 or so center, although near the bottom of that 7, and has a really useful swing skill that fits with basically any roster.
Basically a super sized K Love. no, he’s never been a great #1. But who thinks he is?
He is a PF in my book. Not a great defender, and kind of soft. Stretch 5. Though if you eant to get a bunch of 3s up, I get it.
Though he did show some gumption in the POs last year playing through some cold shooting.
IDK, I think I can get to 7 Cs before him: Jokic & Embiid, obviously. Davis. Wemby. Bam. Gobert. Zinger. Allen. Not by much, though.
Zinger and Allen?? That’s too far. Wemby you could take on potential and strength of his second half but his production isn’t top 5.
He’s definitely the worst defender among that group. But he’s also the best shooter. And I think playoffs are a different beast – as you say, he was fine to good last year, and he should be as good with NYK.
He’s probably the difference in a first and maybe second round series against a team with good size. Knicks paid a lot but it’s a good bet

The situation in Asheville and Greenville sounds like it’s improving, situation outside the cities remain dire, also water contamination going to be a big problem… but AFAIK everybody’s getting by, hopefully we see more rapid improvement.

the situation is so f*cked up that the only thing I can think of is to trade everyone of value and tank for this year and the next.

I think the Knicks were dumb here. Donte is Uber tough. Ben Werth, the best talent scout I ever talked to, loves Donte. Kat is kind of a head case. Really think this sets up Minnesota for an extended run.

Trading for Watson was a franchise-altering error from the jump, one that, no matter what they try, may be impossible to recover from.
why read this in The Ringer? this is exactly what we all said the day the trade was made. Things have turned out as bad as they could. those of use who are Browns fans can only wait for the Watson era to end. Other than having a meddling owner, one might hope for a soft landing. totally on this topic. If I was running the Browns, I would cut Watson, give Miles a year off for R&R, trade whoever you could, and tank for this year. They ain’t going nowhere until they get a decent QB and rebuild the O-Line. that is pretty much how I expected it to go when they made the trade.
