Live Thread: Cavs @ Hornets (#WatchTheStingers)
2016-02-03The Cavaliers flew into Charlotte yesterday for the second stop on this quick road trip tonight against the Hornets. It’s actually the last time the wine & gold will be away from their own hive at the Q until the 21st of the month, and one of just three remaining road games for all of February (well, everyone that is, except for LeBron, Tyronn Lue and the Cavs’ coaching staff who will be traveling to Toronto for All Star Weekend). On the surface, this looks to be a fairly easy buzz through the Queen City for the King and his men… especially given that the Hornets’ starting PG, Kemba Walker, will likely have his wings clipped for this one with a knee injury.
Charlotte may also be without Nic Batum (toe), but will have a few members of it’s colony back with Jeremy Lamb and the fully healthy Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. The Cavs would be wise not to look past this Hornets team, even without a healthy Walker, however. Charlotte certainly still has the ability to slow the Cavs in transition and protect the rim. According to ESPN stats, they are second in the NBA with 38.5 points allowed in the paint per game and are among the top 10 with 11.8 allowed on the fast break. Even when the Cavs swatted them 95-90 in a win at Charlotte on Nov. 27, both teams had just six fast break points each, and the Cavs owned only a 40-36 advantage in the paint. Of course, Kyrie Irving didn’t play in that game, and without Kemba to stay with him, points may be a little easier to come by.
On the Cavs’ side, LeBron himself was reportedly dealing with the after-effects of a stinger (of a different kind) that he suffered during the third quarter of Cleveland’s overtime win against the Pacers on Monday. He is expected to play, although Matthew Dellavedova has been called a game-time decision by Coach Lue, as he’s apparently been dealing with a sore hamstring for the last week. If Delly can’t go, expect to see some rare Mo Williams action. And, on that topic… while the Cavs really need to work on shoring up their recently honeycombed defense, this may not be the game we see it completely jell with the potential change in the back court. Still, they should be able to push their winning streak to six games.
Cavs likely starting lineup includes: Kyrie Irving, J.R. Smith, LeBron James, Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson. And, for the Hornets: Jeremy Lin, Nicolas Batum, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Marvin Williams and Spencer Hawes.
Game time is 7 p.m. (EST), and the action can be seen on FSO, or heard on 1100 WTAM.
Prediction: Cavs take a few stings, but outrun the Hornets 108-101.
Commence buzzing…
Lue is losing this team. Waiting for the Windy insider poop scoop.
Yeah Spencer… you’re a real tough guy with that man bun…
i never thought jr would be my favorite cavs player
LeBron missing box out…
The Hornets announcers are busting on the Cavs, saying the offense looks the same as it did earlier in the season: lots of standing around and isolation
Show some pride, Cavs… jeez
how many o boards does lebron give up a game ? smh
Kidd Gilchrist with his 54th offensive board of the game…
Our overall defense is just terrible. Is Moz in the doghouse or something?
Meanwhile, Curry scores 25 in the first quarter. 9/10, 7/8 from three.

letting Spencer Hawes and Frank Kaminsky do work is no way to celebrate Black History Month
Hornets looking to emulate the Pacers and give us the game back
Hornets trying to help Cavs get back in the game…
Just came home. What in the world happen to Cavs?
Groundhog Day…
Be thankful Kemba is out tonight…
If that was the play drawn up during the timeout… I’ll eat my hat…
Why isn’t Moz on Hawes?
I wonder if they know that the other team already knows they are going to run a high pick and role…
Wasn’t yesterday supposed to be Groundhog Day?
Also back to walking the ball up into, the half court. Do not think they have tried to get the ball quickly into half court set once tonight.
With AV out… Cavs have zero presence in the middle…
Now they just look like trash, the whole team. Not playing good basketball…
Gonna need a dose of MFQ…
This hornets game should silence anyone who thinks Delly’s plus/minus numbers are meaningless.
Well I have really not seen much to like the past few games. Offense looks terrible, no off ball movement whatsoever. It is all iso backdown, or one pass cross court kickout for CONTESTED jumpers. Yes I am outing myself as thinking one pass and shoot jump shots is not really great ball movement. Most of the time those shots are at least partially contested and the resulting assist is due to a guy making a shot with a hand in his face as opposed to a guy making a shot because it was easy. Need to move off ball… Read more »
Shump is seriously terrible this season. Lazy passes, overrated defense, no jump shot.
Busting out as a rap artist, though…
Cavs are a mess.
Apparently… nobody can handle the ball except Delly…
Andy needs to play the rest of the game…
The American Patriot is beating us…
TT is sucking the life out of my night…
The Cavs collective spirit is a terd right now
AV!!
Jesus, Mo sucks.
I miss Delly. Mo is trash
Travel after dribbling to nowhere, then playing 10 feet off Lin. Yuck, Mo.
Mo could at least score when he filled in for KI. Moz couldn’t possibly be worse than TT tonight
What an atrocious quarter of play…
Cavs are -31 over the last two third quarters. It really is like 2009. Wasn’t that the year of the atrocious third quarter in the playoffs?
JR playing hard on both ends…
Only bright spot that quarter…
Andy and Mo on the court though… like it’s 2009…
This seems like Deja Vu all over again from Monday…
Holy cow don’t hey miss Delly on offense, defense, and the D Boards.
You forgot the /s…
I honestly think they miss Delly more than KI as far as missed games….not trolling, either.
Meanwhile Steph Curry is freaking 7 of 8 from three IN THE FIRST QUARTER!
lue called a timeout about 7 possessions too late
Yeah. The “you dug your own hole” philosophy should be applied sparingly.
Very fitting, Evil.
Unbelievable 37-20 on the boards. TT terrible defense in the paint
Is Lebron is trying to show up MJ?
Come on Lue…lets see some zen master magic
Mo actually played a little D on Lin that time…
Past two games, the Cavs have looked an awful lot like the Blatt Cavs…
Noticeably more galvanized, though…
Not to mention spiritually connected…
Doing things the Cleveland way…
Something’s missing!

Back to walking it up…
Fast pace is looking good…. for the Hornets.
I love LeBron and firmly believe he is our best chance at a title. But that outside shot is a joke. He’s just throwing it up there now, like he doesn’t want it in his hands.
LBJ gets to 16th all time the hard way…
The Cavs can’t get a stop……
Good stop by Andy that time tho…
HOORAY! AV!
Thanks Linsanity…
Andy V sighting!!!
Andy V good help defense first possession
JR was wide open at the top of the key… Kyrie decided it was better to go one on three…
29-18 rebounding advantage for the hornets.
Wow we are making them look GOOD!
TT laying out the welcome mat in the paint right now…
Where the heck are shump and Delly??
Delly is out tonight with a bad hammy…
Gracias. Just joined game at 3rd quarter
Defense leaves something to be desired right now…
LBJ just tied the Big Ticket for 16th all time…
So much for coming out strong in the third quarter.
Wall outplaying Curry so far: He has 1 assist to Curry’s none. ( Curry has 20 points with 3 minutes to in the first).
Same effort we saw last game in the second half. Total lack of movement off ball on offense and total lack of defensive purpose. Cmon guys
Lue using the timeout to stop the run tonight…
JR smith is sooooo frustrated w refs not caring if he gets shoved or kicked or clipped…his restraint is actually rather impressive
KYRIE IS MAGIC!
Latest whistle I’ve ever heard…
There’s a three from Kyrie…
Coach Boylan has an obnoxiously large nose.
If Love hits a couple more of his open looks this game would be a blow out.
Maybe, but the Cav’s are 5-10 from 3. If you go by should’ve, we should have hit about 1.3 less 3’s so far, so we should be up 4 less points.
Here’s a first half number for you. Zero, that’s 0, turnovers. They have REALLY cleaned those up; Since Lue took over the Cavs have 64 turnovers in 6 and 1/2 games, or 9.8 per game. Small sample but stunning nonetheless.
And 16 of them were against the Pacers…
I also like that LBJ and Kyrie have zero three point attempts so far…
Lebron yea, but I want KI to get to work on his; He’s too good a shooter to take that out of his game.
But it’s always a good sign if he’s aggressively taking the ball to the hoop…
All it takes is 2 minutes and the Cav’s gain control of the game. Now let’s come out strong in the 3rd.
