Live Thread: Cavs vs Knicks

Well, Cleveland stood pat today, choosing not to to ship anyone out, and instead hopefully add some insurance in the buyout market. The Knicks also chose to stand pat, but it was more like standing on 15 when the dealer has a seven showing. So after half a season of drama, Carmelo Anthony leads the the unchanged Knicks into the Q. The Cavs are, of course, missing J.R. Smith and Kevin Love while the Knicks are missing Joakim Noah. Courtney Lee is expected to return after an illness and try to infect the Cavs’ roster.
It will be interesting to watch whether the Knicks are enthused to all be back together, or if they’re already coasting till April. Other things to watch: will the Zinger be Zung by his NBA Skills Challenge victory? Will Melo be competitive? Is this the start of the Phil Jackson death march? And will the Cavs start transition to “playoff mode?” If I was a betting man (and I’m not) I’d bet the house on Cleveland beating the spread.

I don’t know who would be in 9 man playoff rotation. I feel like Derrick Williams and RJ fall out of rotation with additions of Deron Williams, Bogut/Sanders. That may be why Derrick Williams has not been signed through the year.
They need playable depth — people get hurt or in foul trouble. Remember Dahntay Jones and his two minutes of glory in the Game 6 of the Finals.
Matchup dependent, I’d say:
Starting V + Deron & Korver for certain. Mix & match for the rest: Shump + RJ + D-Will + Frye for the other spots. Liggins + our C the other actives. Felder & JFJ inactive.
If we get healhty (Love, JR, no more injuries), this is the most talented Cavs team post-Return, easily. Of course, GSW is improved as well.
GSW doesn’t have the depth though

Well, they haven’t done it yet. They’d have to waive someone (Mack, most likely). So we could get him for free as a consolation.
The James gang off the pine: Korver 11/2/3 (4-9; 3-7) plus a steal; RJ 10/2/0 (3-4; 2-3); Enchilada 8/1/1 (3-4, 2-3). Perhaps Lue plays more than 8 guys in the 2nd half.
Just imagine when this team has JR & Love back, and possibly the other DWill and Bogut…

James for a little longer each game. Ditto Kyrie. I think it will take a while to figure it out. Shump will play less. Frye vs. certain teams. RJ/Enchilada could turn into 1 guy playing all the minutes or them playing each a little less. Once we hit March, there’s schedule congestion. James & Kyrie will sit some games & that will open up some PT.
You literally can only dress 13 though. Who doesn’t dress?
