Live Thread: Cavs vs. Bulls (#Bullish)
2017-12-21On December 4th, the Cavaliers took down the Bulls in Chicago to win their 12th straight on their 13 game winning streak. Two games later, the Bulls started an impressive win streak of their own, ripping off seven in a row, including wins over some of the better teams in the EC like Boston and Milwaukee. What’s changed for the bullish Bulls? Nikola Mirotic returned after missing the first 23 games of the season with injuries suffered from getting punched in the face by teammate Bobby Portis. The two must have patched things up, since they now anchor a suddenly formidable bench unit for Chicago. Mirotic, a known thorn in the Cavs’ side, has averaged 19.6 ppg over the stretch with 7.7 rpg, while shooting a robust 52% from the floor (49% from three). The Bulls have also gotten improved play from PG Kris Dunn and SG David Nwaba since he returned from injury.
All that to say, the Cavs probably shouldn’t be sleeping on the stampeding Bulls going into tonight’s final home game of 2017. Even though Chicago played last night (and the Cavs rested), none of them played more than 29 minutes in their win over the Magic, so they shouldn’t be overly tired. Despite losing a close one to the Bucks on Tuesday, the Cavs have still been one of the hottest teams in the League over the last month, and with no games scheduled until Christmas Day, they should have no excuses for not giving maximum effort. Speaking of bullishness, the second unit should be feeling their oats again tonight after they dragged the team back from a 20 point deficit in the fourth quarter against Milwaukee. They’ll need to work hard again tonight to counter what Mirotic and Portis have been doing off the Bulls’ bench.
And, one more reason for the Cavs to feel bullish… they finally got some 5-on-5 practice time in for Isaiah Thomas (with the visiting Canton Charge) today, and he seems to be champing at the bit to get back onto the floor in game action.
Guess the G League scrimmage went well. https://t.co/fnc9ntoMRy

Prediction: The Bulls run wild to an early lead, but the Cavs wear them out ultimately to rope themselves a 118-112 victory.
Catch all the action starting at 7pm EST on FSO… and as always chime in here with your thoughts…
Great D to end it!
Wade with another block!
Hey Bron makes two. Just no threes or fouls on threes now.
11 4th quarter points for LBJ…
Bron & Wade should not be in in foul situations.
Clutch FTs from Bron there…
No 3 pointers!
Bron shoulda gone for the dunk there….
Drew took Love out for D & we gave up a triple. Then Bron went iso-3.
Nonexistent help from tt. On that valentine drive. Terrible tt
Yeah, that was horrible.
Just his third game back, right?
Talking bout that specific play. Which is not really rust. I mean if there is no one in front of a guy with a clear lane and you are the only thing between an open layup or dunk, you cut the guy off. Bball 101
I’d still cut him some slack…
Does Larry Drew have the same skill at plays out of timeouts that Ty does?
Ugh!!
Five more points for each team and I hit my predicted score…

Least they made sure Mirotic didn’t get the shot off…
Man they gang tackled Mirotic there….
honestly though…the bulls could sneak into the 8 or 7 seed
Nah… they’re not this good…
I agree. They’re not that good.
It’s possible if Lavine comes back effectively…
Crowder has to minimally hit corner treys
Or not get 4th quarter minutes.
Wade saves another possession!
Been unbelievable on d tonight
Kevin just fell for the banana in the tailpipe…
Ugh!
30 for Bron…
Heck of a shot in the paint, Lebron…
LBJ getting closer to triple double…
Bet Mirotic is a huge douche in real life…he just has the look…
He’s a convicted felon, isn’t he, Marty?
Holiday with a superb shot over James. Pressed the bulls are playing tough. Reminds me of those old thibs teams that refused to die.
Impressed
That Korver sjot from the corner at 94-94 was a 3, I thought. Can’t believe they haven’t looked at it.
LeBron with the slo-mo breakdown of Valentine…
Feels like the Bulls are shooting 50% from three, even though they aren’t anywhere near that…
Love looking strong!
Could have used that last night. Thanks, Ty.
Love with a very tough and much needed contested three. Been outstanding tonight.
Love gettin fourth quarter mins!
Ty Lue not coaching…
hope he’s at least watching
Sounded like he was pretty sick…
Calderon, Crowder, Korver, Bron, Love to close.
there’s some of unicorn in Markannan
He’s probably going to be good…funny how almost every Bulls fan hated him on draft night…
They all wanted the kid who went to Dallas…
Dunn is looking good this season, too…
More butterfingers. More 3s. Korver this time with a chance for 4.

Chicken nuggets!
Korver with a TO then a 4 point play.
Only 2 on that?
Dunn also traveled there… lot of missed calls
finally a rookie mistake
Total travel by Markkanen… at least he threw it out of bounds…
Was Korver fouled on that 3 shot?
wade won’t likely win 6th man of the year cuz he’s not gonna stuff the stat sheet a ton, but he will have earned it by season’s end
Kev back in…
Wade may have lost a step on offense, but he’s still got terrific defensive instincts
Is valentine good or is this a fluke game? Like him coming out of college.
Typically not that good…
He can hit open threes, not much else…a defensive zero. Most Bulls fans dislike him.
Bron with the butterfingers & a triple.
Plenty of contact on that Wade drive… still no call…
Wade was fouled and no call
please actually play kevin love this quarter
LBJ handle is off tonight
Holiday took like 5 steps on that breakaway…
If Wade’s more proficient three ball sets up those kind of fakes, then it’s a bonus…
Can’t let that head poppin caveman camp under the hoop.
Too early for LeBron I think… Larry Drew panicked
really thought korver was going to block that mirotic alley oop layup. a step too slow
Mirotic really has a punchable face.
And we let them right back in.
Can’t leave Mirotic open from corner…
If he goes on a tear I just may puke…really hate his game…
7-0 run to start the fourth…
Let’s go ahead & blow them out & put IT in.
Flash flashing those hands
Damn, Cedi. Another Wade steal and …
Wade with like three steals this quarter…
Wade, defensive player of the year, sixth man of the year.
