Live Thread: Play-In Game, Cavs @ Nets
2022-04-12It’s finally here, the post-season and the Cavs are in it as they traverse to the banks of the East River to take on the Brooklyn Nets in the Cavs’ biggest game since the 2018 NBA Finals. All eyes of the NBA world will be on the Barclays Center to see if the Cavs can pull off what would be one of the great upsets in sports lore.
What will it take to upset the Nets? It starts on the defensive end with Evan Mobley. Mobley will have to be special tonight on the defensive end protecting the rim, rebounding the ball, and challenging outside shots on switches. The Cavs will go as far as Mobley can take them defensively. It’s obviously a tremendous burden to bear for a 20 year old rookie, but it’s in these types of games when Mobley elevates his game to superstar levels. No matter what transpires, this is the type of experience Mobley needs to test the limits of his game and become the NBA superstar he’s destined to be.
The game on the offensive end is clearly an easier task, that’s where Brooklyn struggles the most. But the question is whether Darius Garland and the Cavs’ offense can remain disciplined and consistently create and attack mismatches that will present themselves. Too many times the Cavs’ perimeter players have passed up on the simple play: a post up for Kevin Love, Lauri Markkanen, or Evan Mobley on a guard. The Nets will be playing a combination of Seth Curry, Kyrie Irving, Patty Mills, and maybe Goran Dragic or Cam Thomas. These are the guys who should be attacked every possession. Can the Cavs execute, and can they adjust to the Nets’ adjustments? The pressure is on Coach J.B. Bickerstaff to guide these guys through the game.
On Brooklyn’s side…
Looking at Brooklyn, the only real pressing question is with whom Coach Steve Nash decides to surround Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Conventional wisdom would dictate only Patty Mills and Nic Claxton getting minutes off the bench. But does Nash go with vets LaMarcus Aldridge or Blake Griffin instead? What about rookies Kessler Edwards or Cam Thomas? Nash trying to extend his bench or experiment could open a chance for the Cavs to exploit those matchups. But can the Cavs’ capitalize if it happens?
Stat to remember
This game will largely be dictated by who wins on the glass. The Cavs have a golden opportunity to generate second chance points given the Nets’ worst in the NBA defensive rebound rate. Unfortunately the Nets have a similar opportunity for themselves given a bottom 10 ranking for the Cavs. Who makes those hustle plays and creates the easy buckets generated by rebounding the ball? The Cavs lost the rebound battle by 14 last Friday night, that will have to change.
Tip off is scheduled for 7:00PM ET and will be broadcasted live on TNT, Go Cavs!
Levert needs to stop forcing stuff.. I hate it soo much..
Cavs need a wing so bad it hurts
6 blocks for Nets.. we have 8 more attempts than them but just can’t score
Kyrie going 9/9 is really pissing me off.
Definitely needs touched up.
somehow kyrie beat levert. weird
well… held them to 17 that quarter. but yeah we are out of our league without Allen
Kyrie is ridiculously good…..
on Offense
Kyrie cannot miss
Gotta touch him up.
Levert is terrible. That was an awful fast break. Dribbled too deep. Jumped to pass. Then gave them two points. Total @$$.
STEVENS BIG BOY PLAY!

but mostly giveth away
Omg levert
levert is balls
He has had some good passes.
Had a nice play the possession before. And then the steal. But that play cost us 4 pts. Could have cut it to single digits.
We blew a chance to get back in the game.
SHOOT THE BALL CARIS YOURE IN THE PAINT
GOOD GOD Caris you cannot have that. Do over!!!
We were down by 20. Now we’re down by 13. Keep up the pattern and we win by 1!
3 minutes till half and we are still in the 30s.
They somehow have only scored 10 points in this quarter with 1:12 left.

wow that is…. even worse than the eye test. somehow
Can’t win just having guards and power forwards score.
Gah. Did Mobley just pick up his third?
I thought so. But it is only two.
Harland said 1st, but he is wrong.
Sweet dime and finish Garland to mobley.
Sweet drive Mobley!!!
MOBLEY WHAT A FINISH!
Lol. Your feed has been consistently ahead of mine by like 15-20 seconds all season. At least I know when something foods about to happen.
LMFAOOOOO
Gah. Okoro killing me.
yeah remember all that promise he showed last April??? geesh it has vanished
Yeah…another dude just not ready for this level.
Levert is shooting too much, and a lot of his shots are forced.. We need Garland to start attempting more shots, trust his more.
Most of his shots have been from 8ft though. He should be making them.
Gah. Drumm wasn’t close enough to dunk that. Go straight up.
3 on Mobley?
Nevermind.
ICE CLANK FEST
Nice dish Caris. They need to get Laur going.
Drummond is the crappiest okay player in NBA history…
He annoys me way more than he should.
WHERES THE FOUL?
DG only plays 16 minutes because if we are in it in the 2nd half he’ll play 24 more minutes
cut it to 10 by half
100%
Come on Lauri. Gottaa be stronger.
Big shot Lauri.

Durant just a cheat code man
Only Love stepping up among him levert rondo and markk…not ideal
Even with Drmmind and Brown out, we still cannot finish inside. KD/Claxton killing us.
No minutes for Moses so far.
has been out of the rotation pretty much sinc Ev came back
Cedi looking very tight on his shots.
Why is Rondo shooting that 3 .. ughhh
Cavs have held the Nets to 2 points so far this quarter. amazing defense.
If we could hit a 3, we’d be right back in it.
Caris plays so much smaller than 6’6″
Absolutely ridiculous the lack of any touch Levert has on those open short jumpers. I mean this is an NBA player, a ‘scorer’, making a lot of money…
Love absolute bailout three.
Love our best player right now.
Offensively at least.
LeVert has got to make that shot in the lane.
He has taken 5-6 wild/hopeless shots already.
Not a winning player.
He always looks like he’s forcing shots versus when Garland or Kyrie drives, it’s with intent and looks smooth.
Love somehow keeping us somewhat in this.
KEVIN LOVE BABYYY
WOW, Caris wide open over Kyrie can’t hit that in the paint.
1-8 man can’t buy a basket
Simmons dressed like a zoomer leprechaun.
😂😂😂
Unnecessary/dumb foul from Rondo there.
Nice little run here.
Lulled the Nets to sleep
Please just ignore Ben freaking Simmons. There’s a freaking game ongoing.
seriously so sick of that guy
Though I would pay a lot to see him too scared to dunk against the Cavs in a playoff game next year.
How are you out with a back injury and you haven’t played in a single game?!
Sort of
Love showing up!
Silver lining. We have 36 minutes to make up 20 points.
Why JB brought in the second unit is beyond me.gotta ride or die with the starters
well starters were utter shit so
LETS GO LOVE KEEP WORKING!
Mobley can’t take that foul.
19 points for Kyrie/Durant.. and 10 assists in that first quarter.. and Cavs 20…
they also did not miss
Mobley just getting worked on the boards

KLOVE post work good read Rondo
Just not good matchup and Cavs look overwhelmed already…yeesh
Take the A$$-whipping, remember the feeling when you play these frauds again next year.
100%
I think I will watch the USWNT play Uzbekistan.
I had to chuckle for this.
tooo much blocks on layups .. and no defense… a 12-0 run to end the quarter…. this is what I was afraid of..
71% for Brooklyn.
Literally everyone is making shots.
Lol….. Cavs are soooo outmatched.
Losing rebound battle 14-7, losing assist battle 11-3
Doesn’t sound ideal…
yikes that is bad. allowing the Nets to do whatever they want. again. is this a broken record???
The referees handed all the momentum to the Nets. The block in Markkanen that lead to a layup on the nets end, garland hacked that turns to a kyrie 3. There’s no way to overcome that. Fuck the NBA.
This game is almost over.
Not great Bob.
