The Cavs take on the 4-3 Pacers at home tonight. The Pacers are coming off a comfortable 18 point win against the Kings less than 24 hours ago. Yup, the Cavs get to play fresh against a team playing the second night of a back-to-back. This game really is Cleveland’s chance to start righting their early season performance issues.

Indiana is a team the Cavs shouldn’t struggle against. The Pacers take just 24.7 3s a night which is 26th in the league. That’s good because the Cavs are allowing teams to shoot 40.7% from beyond the arc so far this season. They’re also letting opponents jack 34.1 long balls per game. Both of those numbers are bottom three in the league.

And, as of now, Indiana’s shot blocking and 3-draining big man, Myles Turner, is out for this game due to the concussion protocol. In his only game played this season, Turner hit one 3-pointer on his way to 21 points, 14 boards, and four blocks.

Victor Oladipo has come on though and will definitely be a challenge for the Cavs. He’s shown the ability to jet up the court off of quick outlet passes, and he is 13th in the league in scoring with 23.9 points a night. He’s also shooting 45.7% on deep balls this year. He will shred the Cavalier’s perimeter players in isolation and will run the pick and roll a decent amount forcing Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson to make some tough decisions.

Still, the Cavs can load up on him and have a great chance of making this game a statement win. Yes, I said statement win. The Cavs are at that point right now.

If Cleveland can get out of this game healthy, show a dedication to at least running on close outs in their haphazard defensive trapping scheme, and consistently work guys open off the ball, tonight will be worth watching. I’m picking the Cavs 113-103.
