Live Thread : Cavs @ Knicks

The Cavs continue their road trip tonight as they take on the Knicks who are 4-1 in their last five games. Kristaps Porzingis is currently playing like an MVP candidate and it will be interesting to see how the Cavs defend him. Their rebounding woes were very apparent against the Rockets and tonight Lebron’s nemesis Joakim Noah is making his season debut after serving a 20 game suspension for PED use. The Knicks embarrassed Cleveland earlier this year crushing the Cavs 114-95 with Porzingis scoring 32. Although this isn’t a nationally televised game, the Cavs should be able to get up for this one with Noah returning and realizing the Knicks are no longer a cake walk.
Frank Ntilikina will also be one to watch as he has been playing great defense since getting his footing early in the season. He also may be playing with a chip on his shoulder after Lebron trolled Phil Jackson saying Dennis Smith Jr. should be a Knick. In an ideal world, this seems to be a match up that Ante Zizic would get some burn as the Knicks do not have dynamic PGs to blow by him on the PnR and they could use his fouls and energy to deal with the Knicks front court. I also wouldn’t mind seeing some euro on euro action with Cedi going against Ntilikina, preferably with the Cavs up 20 in the 4th and Lebron resting. This seems unlikely, I expect a close game with Lebron relishing the moment of returning to MSG and playing against Noah. Cavs win 111-107.

He is a guy that allows you not to have a system like LBJ. We need a disciplined defined system offensively because we aren’t good enough defensively to compensate for his loss without an offensive system.
I don’t think the cavs practice offensive sets or defensive schemes. Nobody seems to know where they are supposed to be on offense.
I ask how Isiah’s return helps at all… he must be wondering just how badly Ainge screwed him…

Well if you can’t beat good teams even on national tv when you’re motivated, you barely win against the worst team in the league, and get blown out by 500 teams, you just can’t be very good. That is what the pattern indicates.
There are no offensive sets… there are no plays… there are just guys going one on one and jacking up bad shots…

Kanter isn’t a shot blocker. This looks like a game where they are dazed and confused. Read into that what you will. I have several times below.

Let’s be real. I don’t think anyone has control of an LBJ team for the past 3 years other than LBJ. You would need a coaching legend. It got us a championship. It certainly makes things harder than what they need to be though.
Every team in the league should watch this game as a primer on how to defend the cavs offense. Just have three guys closing off James, with the two closer to the bucket far enough away to recover but close enough to wall off the paint.
This is a putrid pop-a-shot game plan…

Crowder starting to make the same difference he did early in the year. If we can just put 3/4 of the guys together…we’re better than 9/10 of the league. Just need a few more actual plays to find a rhythm with.

Despite the difficult back to back threes, this is one of those games where it looks like the cavs are making everything up as they go on offense es.
