Live Thread: Cavs @ Knicks
2019-11-10The young Cavs look to beat a beatable team in the Big Apple. The 2-7 Knicks are led by a team of power forwards that can all score, but not exactly defend. Rookie R.J. Barrett is the most intriguing as he puts up 16/6/4, 40% from the feeld, and 36% from three. He’s mired in a 5-21 shooting slump over the last two days, so he’ll surely be looking to break out. Barrett’s been starting at point guard (of sorts) as the Knicks used a big starting lineup of Nkintla, Morris, Randle, Barrett, and Taj Gibson to beat the Mavericks in Dallas 106-102, Friday. Putting the clamps on him early will be key, but he also seems like the kind of athlete who can give the likes of Cedi Osman fits.
The Knicks are led by our old friend Marcus Morris, who’s putting up 19 a night with a hot 59 TS%. They also have 3 other forwards, Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, and Kevin Knox who put up double digits each game. As for the guards, Dennis Smith Jr. is returning to health, and I’ve no word on whether he’ll play tonight. Frank Nkintla is coming off a solid couple of games after a rough start to the season.
Key for the Cavs will be running on this big lineup and executing against double teams and switches. Let’s see if Darius Garland can continue his strong play of last game and if Collin Sexton can feed off the double teams Thompson and Love will probably draw. Also key will be staying together on the road, which has been an issue. The Cavs can this one, but it could be close.
watched most of the second half of this game – sexton and garland look more comfortable than ever – Nance at times looks soft and then suddenly makes plays with energy and toughness…inconsistency is an issue – Clarkson is hilarious to watch in a ‘Brownsian way’ sometimes he looks super legit and other times I question why he’s still in the league – this Knicks team is poorly put together and Barrett looked invisible all game. Random Knicks were doing so much 1:1 there was no cohesion – Fizdale will probably be out of another job if that continues –… Read more »

Is the Nets coach still employed?
He won’t be for long.

Pretty brutal next seven game stretch. At least we get NY once in there.
TT owns Horford, so I’m giving the Cavs one of those games. We also play the Knicks again. Tyler Herro plays for the Heat so forget about a win there. I think we can steal a game from the Magic.
I have zero confidence our tiny lineup will have a chance against the mega sized Philly team that is one of the best defensive teams in the nba even if TT plays out of his mind. Philly still has embiid, who TT will be guarding. Plus Simmons and Josh Richardson likely swallowing Sexton and Garland whole. Philly just played a brutal west coast road stretch. Not surprised they came away hurting. Magic is 9 games from now. May even beat the nets 8 games from now. But we have Philly, Miami, Philly, NY, Miami, Dallas, Portland. Portland might be hurting,… Read more »
We shall see. If Garland could learn to shoot, this team could be something. But yeah. Philly is gonna wax them. Will be fun to see TT chesty with Embiid. Have a feeling Miami is gonna come back to earth a little.
Could be right on Miami. Maybe I am giving them too much credit.
Love is gonna out-perform his previous record and scorch Portland.
I think Garland knows how to shoot, but has a confidence issue. I’ve been impressed with his unselfishness.
The Sixers won’t take the Cavs seriously for one of those games and the Cavs will steal it.
Tyler Herro is the GOAT!
He does, but to me, it’s an issue of confidence and functional strength. He’s just not that strong it seems. Gotta hit the weights. Trae took a while to get going last year too though. I am still pretty mixed on DG.
That’s fair, but an issue of strength certainly isn’t a major impediment for a rookie. Coming out of the draft, I felt his strong point was his shooting stroke, so I was least concerned with that aspect of his game. He’s got a beautiful stroke, he appears to be overthinking it IMO.
Disagree. It’s the number 1 impediment for a rookie. Takes so much more strength to get your shot off and play off contact in the NBA. It’s part of the reason kpj impresses so much.
Did you just make that up? Garland doesn’t seem to have confidence with his shot, and he shows this when he passes on wide open looks. That shouldn’t be a strength issue. If he’s driving more to the basket, that seems to take more strength and effort than shooting wide open 3s.
We’re underestimating how bad these last two teams were. Washington and New York have the worst point guards in the Association, and for the Knicks the worst guards in the Association were hurt.
Oh I know. I said the other day Washington and NY should be wins for us. That feeling of how bad they are was confirmed by how they looked against us. Again cannot fathom how NY has two wins.
Any team in the NBA can win on a given night if you don’t take them seriously. The Knicks were super up for the Mavs cuz of zinger, and I don’t think the Mavs took them seriously. The other was against the Bulls who are crap, and Portis came off the bench for 28.
Forgot about the zinger factor.
They’re playing him in msg again on Thur.
Not sure these coaches challenges will be fruitful
In general? Yeah they seem silly.
I have not seen one reversed. I’m glad it doesn’t replicate the NFL’s policy.
Cavs and Nets now tied 4 – 5 in the battle for the 7th seed.

Argh completely missed the game.
A good one to replay?
YES! VERY FUN.
Yes, all fun. Wire to wire Cavs.
Definitely watch. Not sure we will see as dominant performance from the Cavs for quite awhile, or at least until we play them again. Fun both to see our guys play well and to laugh at how utterly disorganized the Knicks look on both ends.

Mathematically, the Cavs are now on pace to win 36 games.

Ha! So sick of the browns. They should move again which might force the diehards to focus on the two Cleveland teams that have done things in the past 30 years and are deserving of being the city’s primary focus. God knows the Indians could use more attention and attendance.
Too bad the Indians and Monsters weren’t worked in to this tweet.
KPJ’s j has a long long way to go.
More than any other 19 year old rookie?
For a guard/wing, yeah. I don’t like his release mechanics.
Seems nitpicky
His shooting elbow is way out to the side to start his motion. Tough to be consistent like that. I mean I would guess he is shooting in the low 20% range on jumpshots this year. Before tonight, 20% from 10-16 feet, 33% from 16 to 3pt, and 20% from 3. Feel like very few good consistent shooters have shooting elbows that start that angled. I mean Varejao had way crazier elbow position and so did Noah, and both were briefly ok pick and pop jump shooters from 16-20 for a season or two. Obviously not great examples of consistent… Read more »
Cavs back in the 8 seed!
Fun. Wish we could play them every night. Can’t fathom how they have 2 wins. They shot poorly, but just looked totally disorganized on both ends.
Seriously. They only had a 27 point 3rd quarter because the Cavs gifted them so many free throws.
Surprising news, a team made up of 587 power forwards that take turns running an iso offense isn’t very good.
Courtney Gaines gets inside for two.
That was fun!! Great game!!!
Nice dump off Garland, nice finish Cook!
Porter’s eyes got so big when he realized that ball was coming to him.
Much rather see that scoop than the floater from Darius
Has there been any news on Windler recently?
He’s doing individual workouts, but they’re babying him, with is smart.
Thanks!
Hes wearing ripped skinny jeans a black turtleneck and a sport coat.

GARLAND STARTING TO LEARN THE GAME / PACE —-STARTING TO RELAX MORE —-I CAN LIVE WITH 12–15 PPG—5-8 APG
Garland just missed TT, probably should’ve gone high instead of low with the dump off.
Hans Klopek is in the game for the Knicks!
Sexton! 31!
Sexton had it on the drive, gotta finish that…. HE GOT IT!!!
31 for Sexton!

Ha!
Thas gotta be a clear path
That’s clear path.
Knicks seem to love Randle as a jumpshooter…I can’t argue with that strat assuming their goal is the high lottery…
Fantastic lob!
GARLAND TO TT!!!!! NICE PICK SEXTON TOO!!!
Nice toss, DG!
GARLAND DRIVE AND FINISH!!! CLUTCH!
Sweet scoop by Garland!
Damn.. a touch pass to TT would’ve worked from Love.
Fiz brings Greer in. What a brilliant adjustment to… Play a guard.
