Playoff Live Thread: Cavs vs. Raptors, Game 1 (#TimeToWakeUp)
2017-05-01[Yawn…] …is it the second round yet? Seems like the Cavs have been off and resting for a month now. It’s actually been eight days, but that’s technically more time off then they’ve had collectively since October. They had similar downtime for the All Star Break, although both LeBron and Kyrie were working that weekend. Given how much this team was in need of some extra time to rest, recuperate and actually have a practice or three together, you’d have to believe the extended break was a positive development for the Cavs (especially given the number of vets they number on the north side of 30, not to mention Kyrie’s achy knee).
They may need all of that rest for the road ahead as well. Even though they swept their way through the first round against the Pacers, the games were all fairly close. And, their round two opponent is (on paper anyway) an improved version of the team they faced in last year’s Eastern Conference Finals. The only team, by the way, to take a game off of them before the Finals. This is not to sound the alarm, however. The Raptors earned a few days of rest themselves by finally dispatching the upstart Milwaukee Bucks in six games instead of seven. Maybe even time enough to help Kyle Lowry get his wrist healthy. Yet, though they’ve added Serge Ibaka and PJ Tucker to help with their scoring punch and defense respectively, they’ll still need transcendent games from their two All-Stars and some luck to even extend this series as far as last year’s.
Both teams struggled with holding leads against their first round foes… the Cavs due to defensive holes and the Raps due to stretches of stagnant offense. The Cavs averaged a franchise post-season record 112.5 points per game against Indiana, but gave up almost 109 points per game on the other end. Toronto’s series against the Bucks was much lower scoring, with the Raps averaging barely more points (93.8) than they allowed (93.2). So, the real difference in this series is likely to come down to whether or not the Cavs can elevate their defense, or the Raptors can get their offense going. Which is why the key matchup might actually be between shooting guards J.R. Smith and DeMar DeRozan.
As far as Game 1 goes, though, Toronto typically has a hard time winning them. The Raps are just 1-11 in series openers in the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Cavs are 15-1 at home in the playoffs since 2015 (the only loss coming to the Bulls in Game 1 of the Conference Semi-Finals that year). As long as the Cavs don’t decide to sleepwalk through this first game, the odds are significantly in their favor.
Probable starters: Cavs: LeBron James, Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, J.R. Smith, Kyrie Irving. Raptors: DeMarre Carroll, Serge Ibaka, Jonas Valanciunas, DeMar DeRozan, Kyle Lowry.
Prediction: The Cavs answer the bell, stay woke and run away with a 115-105 Game 1 victory.

Spurs getting whooped. They’re offensively challenged.
Spurs are poorly coached for this game.
Aldridge is no Duncan and Parker is old and manu is old and and kawhi is 2-3 years away from being Lebron as a scorer and will never approach Lebron the facilitator. Spurs are built to succeed in the regular season
Let us not forget what the Spurs did to OKC in game 1 last year & how that ended.
True…But it isn’t as if the Spurs destroyed the Grizzlies either
Hope there’s an instacap coming cuz this one was fun!
It’s up!
26 assists, 83% on FT’s and just 12 TO’s.
Great game from the Cavs. Let’s hope they keep it up.
How’s the tension in the island?
Sending positive vibes bro
It’s a huge mess Bro! I’m seriously considering moving to the states ???.
Dahntay always gets ejected vs Toronto.
TT was a whopping +33 tonight!
I was expecting the Raps, with their upgraded offense, to give the Cavs a better fight. But it just didn’t happen… And we screwed up a LOT.
We only had 1 TO in the 2nd & 3rd quarters combined.
Not only TO’s. There were plenty of times where the Cavs made the wrong play or took a crappy shot just because they were ahead and we’re feeling good. Just lots of missed opportunities.
Agreed. Lot of showboating & unnecessary highlight seeking plays.
it seems like the Raptors are not a good play from behind team. The 2 games they lost against the bucks they fell behind early and never came back.
this was the game dahntay jones became our starting SG
They already don’t like him from last year when he punched Biyombo in the jewels…

After those early TOs, Kyrie didn’t have any after the first quarter.
What was with the ejection? I didn’t have sound on…why wasn’t it just a tech?
Two techs I think… one for taunting Poeltl and then one for coming back at Powell after Powell got in his face about it…
Ohhhh… thanks
Two techs on Dahntay (one on Powell). No explanation of the second one on Dahntay. Maybe just kept talking too much.
Quick whistles to keep crap from escalating.
Kyrie had 10 dimes… I’ll take that for a dollar…
Gotta love Dahntay…

Probably would have been nothing if Powell hadn’t reacted. Not sure what Dahntay’s second T was for.
Only in NBA is tech foul called with twenty seconds left
this game ended with the best possible ridiculous shit
Joe Haden cam…

That’s what happens when you go full court press.
Seriously… I was just one point off on the final score… eerie!
Best offense in the NBA
Worst fourth quarter offense in the playoffs.
Best third quarter offense though…
Dahntay also yelling in the turtle’s face and getting ejected… classic
Cavs play to the competition EG.
Dahntay shows up the Raps for pressing the Cavs late.
Dahntay can still GET UP!
I really should go to Vegas with my game score predictions…
So, are the Cavs just better this round, or are the Raps worse than Pacers?
We were bettet. Low TOs. PG13 can make James work. Raptors have no one to slow James down.
No rj… Interesting
Frye dunk!
We mever let them get close in the 4th.
Derrick Williams with a block
Enchilada!!
It seems the Cavs are just not impressed by the Raptors at all.
Between the early pass off the glass and the beer thing, I wonder if the Raps will feel dissed.
They’re just afraid…
Dahntay sighting!
Kyrie works on his handle…

Not sure who predicted but really think this is gonna be a sweep nothing impresses me with raps they are same team as year ago
Well the game one raptors are the opposite of the tnt Bulls.
Why does Lebron ALWAYS have to play 44 minutes per game especially when the CAVS are winning by ALOT?
He just had 8 days off…
Word. Plus, make sure they dont get close.
Don’t want to give Toronto any rhythm. I get it.
Still no RJ.
I think RJ is being kept in a glass case until the Finals
Cavs having fun in the second half. Highlight reel game
How we feeling CEE THE BEEEEEEE????
Kevin With a great game tonight
Big three all with great games…
That was sick from Kyrie.
Another angle on the beer thing. Check JR’s reaction…

Cavs so loose – having fun with their big lead
Kyrie with some uncle drew there
Pacers put up more of a fight than this…
Kyrie just juked Powell out of his gym shorts!
Uncle Drew in the house!
DANCE ON EM YOUNG FELLA!!
Powell hits Kev in the nuts. Foul on Kev.
Nailed KLove in the jewels… then Powell almost airballed a FT…
He uh…fully encountered kev’s LOVE. Takes a bit to shake it off
https://twitter.com/Bottlegate/status/859214100798332928
So hooking Love in his man parts is ok…
If you can get all the way around, it’s legal.
Lol
Wtf with the nut grab!?
Hit em with the SPIN MOVE!!

TNT going with the “7th Man” weird…

I used to use Degree antiperspirant… then I saw Steph Curry endorsed it… I no longer use Degree antiperspirant…
????
The Cavs played great tonight but got to better in 4th quarters with the offense IMO.
They’re one of the worst fourth quarter offenses in the offs.
They’ve been better in the last 3-4 minutes.
Ok bron it’s fun to watch you make shots and all but keep the guys in rhythm
Lowry and derozan rather quiet ibaka had his first half and tucker and Powell in 4th but that’s been it
Great drive to the hoop by Deron. Thought he was going to hold up for everyone else, but no.
Now more than ever I feel like I’m watching a living legend with LeBron. Gotta savor this as long as we can.
+1M
He operates on a completely different level
There ya go, Dwill.
Great anticipation steal by DWill and nice bucket in transition…
Cavs having fun
Nice flop PJ…
Lebron jumper fallling with ease– unstoppable
LeBron made Tucker look about as big as Kay Felder on that drive and finish.
Nobody beating LeBron tonight… #energized
As good as Deron was last series, he has been kind of s***y tonight.
Delon Wright has been pretty physical with him…
LBJ hitting the timely buckets…
Delon Wright playing DWill tough…
We can’t let Powell get open 3s. He, Tucker, & Ibaka have all played well. And we are still ip 16. Not a real good start to the 4th. We should considet D-Will2 for Frye with James at C. Or RJ for Frye.
