Live Thread : Cavs @ Knicks
2017-11-13The Cavs continue their road trip tonight as they take on the Knicks who are 4-1 in their last five games. Kristaps Porzingis is currently playing like an MVP candidate and it will be interesting to see how the Cavs defend him. Their rebounding woes were very apparent against the Rockets and tonight Lebron’s nemesis Joakim Noah is making his season debut after serving a 20 game suspension for PED use. The Knicks embarrassed Cleveland earlier this year crushing the Cavs 114-95 with Porzingis scoring 32. Although this isn’t a nationally televised game, the Cavs should be able to get up for this one with Noah returning and realizing the Knicks are no longer a cake walk.
Frank Ntilikina will also be one to watch as he has been playing great defense since getting his footing early in the season. He also may be playing with a chip on his shoulder after Lebron trolled Phil Jackson saying Dennis Smith Jr. should be a Knick. In an ideal world, this seems to be a match up that Ante Zizic would get some burn as the Knicks do not have dynamic PGs to blow by him on the PnR and they could use his fouls and energy to deal with the Knicks front court. I also wouldn’t mind seeing some euro on euro action with Cedi going against Ntilikina, preferably with the Cavs up 20 in the 4th and Lebron resting. This seems unlikely, I expect a close game with Lebron relishing the moment of returning to MSG and playing against Noah. Cavs win 111-107.
Welcome back to the NBA Noah!
I do appreciate Kanters criticism of leadership in Turkey. His criticism of LeBron well… meh!
We need a clip of LeBron skipping the length of the court after his go-ahead 3.

Thanks, Evil! You beat me to it.
Different perspectives…
I love the look at IT dancing around after the shot. He looks kind of like a mascot that gets to set on the bench with a team. I am totally waiting for him to hit the floor!
This will do…

It’s comical that Knicks fans are booing LeBron.
They’ll regret that next summer… /s
No one can beat a LeBron/Kanter duo!
The BIG 3 of LeBron Kanter and Ntilikina!
Too bad Jackson didn’t trade Porzingis…they can rebuild around him…
Alright watching the 2nd half now.
LeBron ALMOST screwed that up by missing both freebies. Knicks were resigned to their loss though.
IMO, LeBron talked smack on purpose to fire the Knicks up because he wanted to challenge his own team. Almost backfired. Good God, is Crowder in his own head. His bad offense single handedly stunk up the quarter for Cleveland in the third. Thank God Cedi came in and brought some energy. Then Bron and Korver took them home. Wade had some nice D but you cannot put him on the floor with Green and another non-shooter.
IDK on that first part… I think he just wanted to take another shot at Phil…
As Cols would say, “I’m sticking to my narrative.”
Cols wouldn’t say that, he’d just do it…
Cols doesn’t have the word “narrative” in his vocabulary…
He always used to accuse me of sticking to my false narrative.
He must have been quoting someone…
I think Nate meant Cols is “Stinking to his narrative”.
Leslie Jones got some Vintage Wade shoes after the game…

lol 43 points in the 4th
Why don’t the Knicks play Hernangomez anymore? Is he injured?
cus they found out he’s on my fantasy team
lol
IS THIS OUR FIRST WINNING STREAK SINCE OPENING NIGHT!!!?????!!!!!!!!!!!
Is NOMAD there with em?

Bench advantage 54-16!!
Back to 500!
Knicks were doing an awful lot of preening – hahahaha
Especially Kanter and Hardaway which I just don’t get given how mediocre they both are…
If they were smarter, they’d be good.
They might be the best second and third quarter preeners in the league.
All-time best preening was Mo Speights with the baby bottle
Hall of of fame premature preening.
Historical
wow, that is a great comeback from cavs, wished I would have seen it.
From box score 25/26 shots taken by the JR, Korver and Frye are 3pointers. What, they were never taught pump fake.
The fourth quarter was the only one worth watching…
Come’on, its like a movie where the first 70% is setting the stage for an action packed ending.
Pump fake and escape-dribble sidestep to an open 3.
lol. I can’t imagine those three players left open 25 of 26 times at the perimeter.
They weren’t open a lot of the time. And those guys can’t really drive.
Frye and Korver are catch and shoot players, don’t see them creating their own shots. JR Smith can do step back, fade aways from 3s.
To clarify a number were pump fakes and then decently contested shots or decently contested shots with a sliver of an opening. That is really all those three need. Sorry, I should have said kind of open with a tiny window to shoot. Only a few would likely be classified as easy or moderately easy l shots for an decent NBA shooter.
Knocks are a potential 7-8 seed in the east. That’s kinda sad. Cuz they need a lot of work to matter. They played so far from scouting reports in the 4th it is like they were the Cavs for 3 quarters
Channing Frye… +20
I wish Lue would figure out how to run an offense… but credit to him for pulling Shump, Love and Crowder when he realized they were sucking…
I wish I knew how much of it is Lue and how much is just having a team with LBJ on it. I mean there is a pattern in his career. Rings so….
Agree with John B on that. A team with LeBron is vastly different than one without.
Good point.
We have a lot of guys who can be hit or miss. Everyone but James, really. Korver as well. Love goes AWOL some games. JR. Rose & Wade. Shump.
I thought Crowder would be consistent. Hasn’t been. Yet some of that is new surroundings & teammates.
Point being, we shouldn’t stick to a set rotation religiously. If a certain guy doesn’t have it, go to the next guy. Credit to Lue for giving Frye & Cedi run. Finally.
Nice to pull one out.
Oh…nvm EG beat me to it…but Cedi’s minutes were super useful for LBJ
No Love or Crowder in the fourth right?
Can’t recall seeing them.
I don’t think so. Frye got his run.
Zero subs in the fourth, and maybe the last couple minutes of the third. That long review near the end that went the Cavs way was huge, cause it gave everyone a rest.
What is Korver shooting on 3s in the 4th? It has to be over 50%.
Lue finally gives Frye some PT. Wade with a good 2nd half.
Shump didn’t score. Holland. Cedi. The other 2 way guy. If Calderon canmot play now, why in the world did we cut RJ?
Denver thinking the same, If RJ can’t play, why did they cut Jameer Nelson.
Wade with a mostly terrible second half, and a good final five minutes.
The Knicks are not a good team… and I’m glad the Cavs finally woke up…
Hilarious comeback there…Knicks had chests puffed out and then allow such a historic comeback at home no less…i know it was a goofy win and should never have come to that, but sometimes wins like that for contenders like the Cavs can spark a team. Hope Cavs run more offensive sets and drive to the hoop, felt if they did that more Kristaps would’ve been gone from game via fouls….Lebron mostly effed around and nearly got triple double. Hats off to Korver he caught fire when it mattered. AGain just think Cavs hit 3s in the fourth that they missed… Read more »
Underrated aspect of this game… Cedi playing minutes to give energy and effort, and help give Bron rest for the fourth…
I’ve called him a stiff but he did solid tonite…maybe 5-7 min a game could help the rotation moving forward
I don’t believe the Cavs had a turnover in the fourth… after 21 through three quarters…
So Cavs got in that hole because Crowder is terrified to shoot open shots. He was painfully bad in the third. 4 on 5 bad.
He’s really not good unless he’s driving these days…
What happened to his 40% shooting from deep last season? Maybe when IT comes back Crowder can get more comfortable.
He has to be wide open with a lot of time to hit threes at a consistent rate as most decent three point shooters do. He got wide open in Boston. He doesn’t here, certainly not as wide open. People think guys who shoot 40% automatically can shoot like that no matter the time they gave to shoot. They can’t. We have been spoiled by three guys that don’t need quality shots or time the past year and a half.
I’m baffled by how infrequently they put him in the right corner. That’s his spot.
Right Corner and left wing. Those are his spots.
Considering how little it seems guys actually have designated spots to go to off even simple actions with this team the last few years and this year, I am not totally surprised. Plus they often have a Jr or korver filling those spots.
Last season was probably a fluke…he’s more of a 33-35% three shooter for his career…
True but guys often have career years when they get into a system that maximizes their strengths, eg Steve Nash becoming Steve Nash all of a sudden in Phoenix. Good player before D’antoni, mvp after his system.
Lol. Knicks feeling their oats in the second.
Cavs had trouble hitting shots but then hit those same shots in fourth so it was definitely law of averages
I guess. The only reason being they have three guys who can hit rushed contested threes, two of which they play regularly. They played solid d too though.
I was at that game they just showed the stat for: back in 2006 huge comeback against the Celtics. Joe Tait listed that game as one of his all-time favorites.
Not bad d. Awful o for the most part mitigated by guys hitting difficult threes in the fourth. Overall, a nice change of pace. Reminds me of mike brown 1.0. No creativity on offense, solid if not spectacular defense.
Mood…

Absolute dominance in the 4th by the Cavs. Sure we’d like to see 4 quarters of it, but 8 new players and a pretty terrible set of rotations means I’ll take it.
Sure cavs stunk most of game but that was hilarious comeback
I know the Cavs might not deserve this win… but man I’m so glad they shut Kanter, Hardaway, Frenchy Long Arms and FlopZingis up!
Especially Kanter…
I like Frank
He’s no Dennis Smith Jr…
Or Jason Tatum or Kyle Kuzma.
Does that last one give Bron a triple double??
Think he finished with 9 rebounds…
My bad, it is a triple double per Windhorst…
The box scores on ESPN and NBA.com show LeBron with 9 rebounds — perhaps subject to revision.
Yeah, but Green tipped it back to him on the second FT miss and Bron grabbed it… so 10?
Apparently calling it a team rebound, so no triple double for Lebron…
Ugh…
C’mon Bron… hit at least one…
Best quarter in Kover’s career!
A season changer? Or fool’s wine and gold?
500 so this is probably where we will be until IT gets back.
Thank god for the oldest guy on the team.
Amazing comeback, but does not excuse the first three quarters of completely listless play…
Just needed three quarters to sweat out the toxins from the night before.
No…but it does feel really good as a fan. I’m sure it feels even better as a player. Sometimes confidence does more than competence
Knicks need to fold haha
Dwade just made up for every problem he caused
Mr. Fourth Korver.
Yiiii!!!!!

So great.
Huge Wade bound after James goes playground.
Hey! Cavs get the board and get it in Korver’s hands for the free throws!
Dwade with a “vintage” rebound.
VINTAGE WADE!!!
MR FORTH KORVER!!!!!
+1000 I Love it!
Haha nice
Man Courtney Lee showing he’s dumber than Courtney Love…
That was a Shump foul…
What dumb foul by the Knicks. Thank God.
Honestly…we have a worse record and have played terrible so far this season…this would be an upset at the moment
Cavs got lucky.
Nah that was cavs Ball.
Disagree. Hit Frye’s fingers on the way out.
https://twitter.com/JasonLloydNBA/status/930267285654302720
If it takes this long to review, then there isn’t clear enough evidence to change the call.
Gonna be Knicks ball. Hit Frye’s finger.
https://twitter.com/mcten/status/930267751758860288
This better not go the Knicks…
If someone wants to understand the difference between pre circa 2002 defensive rules and post, watch that last possession. That wasn’t even a traditional zone or a box and 1, but no one but the mavs even use trad zones. Lots of teams do that, which is a quasi zone/man hybrid. LBJ still made them pay though.
Tony Brothers and his crew will find a way to screw the Cavs on this call…
They always do…
Ok now just hold ground.
LeBron to City: Drop Dead!
http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/fox-news-sunday/sites/foxnews.com.on-air.fox-news-sunday/files/ford%20to%20city.jpg
Cavs might need 45 points in the fourth to win
DWade is so washed that when people say Vintage Wade the picture I see is a Wade that sucks.
He’s been ok in the 4th…sucked bigly earlier…
That’s half the joke man…
39 point quarter so far for the Cavs!
Helps when guys hit contested threes.
Haha the Knicks
Cavs flipped the switch in the 4th…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5y_cl3WIO6A
LeBron for three!
You’re no Dennis Smith Jr. Frenchy Longarms!
Loved that steal…two can play that game…
