Live Thread: Cavs at Raptors
2014-12-05Sorry about the late post. The Cavs are missing Mike Miller, the Raps have lost DeMar DeRozan for a few weeks.
The Raptors are the second best team in the NBA according to SRS. The Cavs are ninth. Cavs lead 18-13 with about four minutes left in the 1st quarter. This would be a signature win if they could pull it out
Let’s TALK
Still disappears too often to be a Rodman but so young that he can get there. Improving facets of his game each year.
He’ll disappear on a team with ball dominant players. And because of his size he’ll just scrap for dear life against some of the monsters at his position. I’m just happy he’s not a sulker on a ball dominant team. He doesn’t think twice if he has no stats because they only passed to him three times on a night.
Jabari is soon much better. Not even a contest.
Can you please explain why Tristan Thompson is the current roster’s best kept secret? He literally controlled the game for large stretches of the game tonight. He is Dennis Rodman with manners. He is also Charles Oakley with manners. Also…he talks to himself on the bench so much that it makes Lebron wonder if he’s half insane…and then he goes out and takes over. He is earning himself some serious money.
Also maybe mention that Jabari Parker is a better player than Wiggins?
Poor George never did switch over to the game thread. I think he likes ranting alone into the abyss of old threads.
I also liked the 28 assists on 41 buckets and that Cavs out-rebounded Raps by 9 in the second half.
Tom – we need a JV v TT reference in your recap. Maybe tonight is the night the JV fans fully allow TT into their hearts.
I’ll allow it. Fatalist in me might have to bring up TZelles night
Zells with his best night as a pro. 24 and 14 on 10-11 shooting. Caveat that it was against the awful Lakers though…
I’d like to see more James Jones. He can shoot. At least give him 5-10 minutes.
What I liked:
Kyrie setting defensive tone
Winning in hostile environment on road on 2 nd night of back to back
Blatt and his rotational experiments
Hearing about the Mandela tribute
What I didn’t like :love and his matador defense. At least put your hands up to distract the shooters vision
I think dion got punked by Lowry or Amir Johnson
The minutes load Kylie love and lbj are getting
AC and Fred are real homers but not in Sean Elliott’s league yet
Loves defense has been world better than Lebron’s it like the dude has never rotated before. And looms like Kyrie Irving did last year after he was involved in a screen
I liked James Jones too.
Man, this team is great.
Whelp. We are obviously now the best team in the East. And people were worried…
I started watching after the 1st quarter and thought Kevin Love has been sucking at 3s, but when I looked at the stats he was a respectable 3-8. I guess I missed all of his makes. What I liked: Cavs hung in there and didn’t blow the lead. Really happy about Tristan Thompson, He was a bit overwhelmed as a starter the last few years, but is a luxury off the bench. Awesome dude. Awesome haircut. He and Love were killing it on the boards. Also loved the overall defensive effort. What I didn’t like: Dion’s inability to finish. This… Read more »
What I liked: Kind of a lot in this game, but energy and effort throughout. It seemed like everyone hit the floor tonight, even KLove, defensive energy was infectious! Canadian Dynamite’s domination on the offensive glass, LeBron finding his stroke in the second half, Kyrie’s sick finishing at the rim… What I didn’t like: Amir Johnson’s stat line. 27/7/4 from another average at best player. Seems to be setting a trend that someone has a big night that’s out of the ordinary when the Cavs come to town. Who am I kidding, this is the first time this year I… Read more »
Amir had a fantastic game and has long been among the league’s most underappreciated players. There’s no shame in him having a big game especially when he was uncharacteristically nailing triples.
I agree. You can’ t lock down everybody. Vasquez and Ross had pretty bad shooting nights, so it evens out.
@Nate and John: A solid player no doubt.
SIGNATURE WIN!
TT WILL SAVE US ALL!
I’ll be writing the recap tonight.
GIVE ME YOUR:
WHAT I LIKED, WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE
I liked Leb, Marion, Love, Irving, and Andy V.
I liked Thompson and Waiters
I didn’t like:
Still no Ray Allen.
LOL. Love the Ray Allen line. To all the Cols Haters – this is proof he has a sense of humor about himself.
What I liked: Everything I saw in the first half with the exception of letting Amir Johnson get off for 17 points. Loved LBJ’s awesome passing, that KLove was on from the perimeter from the start, all of Andy’s energy in the first half and (from what I gathered) TT’s energy in the second, all the defense that seemed like a terrific carry over from last night in the fourth quarter, and JAMES FREAKING JONES knocking down threes like they were NOTHING in the first half. Just an awesome step forward. What I didn’t like: Having to miss the second… Read more »
Irving team MVP to this point of the season. Maybe Top 5 candidate
I didn’t like that Lebon still doesn’t know how to dribble and keeps throwing stupid passes.
Canadian Dynamite!!!
TT always comes up big in Canada.
TnT! Canadian Dynamite!
All EAST defeats avenged!
Triple double-doubles. nice. Time to let them back in the game yet?
Six point swing. Ouch.
no no no! yes! Sun even shines on a dog’s ***, Dion.
Anderson Varjao in that silver warmup jacket… suggestions so far include 70s pimp in the castro, Brazilian astronaut, the tin man…
I tried so hard to find a pic of that
Nate, I agree. I’m significantly less frustrated by tonight’s game. Love the energy the Cavs brought tonight.
This is a superior game.
Psycho T sighting!
If Love could just jump and contest a shot, our d would be so much better.
TT could get 3 assists a night by just getting an offensive rebound and finding the open man for 3
These Kyrie layups are incredible
good move by LeBron there. Nice job by Kyrie stealing that rebound
wow Amir Johnson for three.
LeBron lifting the pivot foot in the post.
All I want for Christmas is old LeBron back
Bill Belichick would cut LeBron and start Todd Philcox at small forward.
Got to run to a dinner. Hope second half goes well. GO CAVS!!
Good news = 16 assists on 19 baskets. Bad news = being outrebounded by yet another team.
Good news = holding Raps to 38% shooting so far. Bad news = 7-13 on FT. Ugly.
Toronto has that dangerous energy, and I keep waiting for someone like Ross or Patterson to go off from deep, but if Cavs can keep up the defensive energy and LBJ can start hitting some shots (or passing to Kyrie for shots), Cavs should win this game.
yes the Cavs are going to have to dig deep. They can win this game but have to keep the energy up the whole time.
It should be a good test of their progress so far. Thanks to JJ, finally outscoring the opposing bench tonight. Need to keep it that way and not let Lou Williams or Patterson go off in second half.
Could have been a better end to that half, but overall I’m pretty happy and encouraged. Aside from the 17 points from Amir Johnson, Cavs have played good D. Great to see James Jones go off!
they did play better D. Nice to see JJ, yes.
Seem weird LeBron can’t shoot anymore?
Similar to last night with LBJ. His shot motion looks fine, but his shot is just a bit off. He wound up hitting some key shots late last night, so hopefully that happens again tonight.
Was that a makeup T on Dion or something? What did he do that was so offensive?
he let Kyle Lowry punk him again
Wonder who would win in a Lowry/Waiters cage match?
Nice pass Dion!!! Now THAT’S more like it
yeah that was sweet.
UNLEASH THE KRAKKEN
Man, LBJ can’t even hit a tech free throw tonight, yikes
Just when I say that, he hits a three
And that’s why you don’t want Lowry on your team. He just gets too mad and gets technicals. A lot.
What he just did to Waiters will haunt my dreams for a week. Cavs are so soft
Has to be a tie between Matrix and Antawn Jamison for the strangest looking shot ever on Cavs team
Honorable mentions: Eric Snow, Chris Dudley
Good point. Those were some odd ones too
Glad they changed that foul call. I was about to lose my mind
Cavs bigs have to get Johnson into foul trouble.
Amir Johnson LITERALLY has half of Toronto’s points tonight!
Meanwhile, George is losing his mind again on the Mike Miller thread. Ranting about Blatt not playing James Jones before this.
tell him to come over here
I did, but I think he either can’t see past his rage at Blatt, or he’s afraid of getting slammed for his rage on this thread.
I hate Kyle Lowry so much. And if he was on the Cavs he’d be my favorite player. Not sure what that means
He’s just got that “junkyard dog” scrappiness about him. I think Fred said it best that he acts like the biggest player on the Raps even though he’s one of the smallest.
Did Jonas just throw his mouthpiece? He should get a tech for that. AC agrees
Kyrie with the bright yellow version of the mid-tops tonight
Amir Johnson night at the Air Canada Center apparently
Great veteran move from James Jones! What a revelation… Where has he been?
Loved Fred screaming for James Jones and cutting off what Magic was saying. Just awesome
Considering the old magic hour show I bet he didn’t mind the slight
LoL That’s great!! Missed it.
Tom, did you see the LBJ between the legs pass to Dion that led to Dion’s pass into the corner for Matrix? That was a lot of fun!
Did not. Just got here :(
I’m sure it will be all over SportsCenter tonight
It was a stupid pass, but yeah it might be on sportcenter because it’s lebron
Great ball movement tonight! JAMES JONES AGAIN!!! Mike who?
My 6 year old said “who is the large guy?” Meaning Magic Johnson.
Then said “will #1 keep making 3’s?”
I said I hope so boy do I hope so.
+1 to that LOL!!!
JAMES JONES AGAIN
JAMES JONES sighting! Nice three James!
Good look from Dion to James Jones there
Fred and AC interviewing Magic right now. This should be good and devoid of hyperbole (tongue firmly planted in cheek)
Pretty solid first quarter from the Cavs. LBJ shot still off, but he’s making great passes tonight. Love on fire from perimeter. Kyrie not as involved, but couple of nice plays so far. Andy bringing the energy tonight. TT with a terrific rebound and dunk to end the quarter. Dion missed a couple but decent ball movement and D. Solid interior D so far. Amir Johnson getting the Quincy Acy treatment tonight.
