[SEMI-BREAKING NEWS]: Cavs Reportedly Agree In Principle With Both of Their PF(F)s (Power Forwards Forever!)
2015-07-01First, Kevin Love broke the news that he was returning to Cleveland to take care of “Unfinished Business.” Then the reports filtered out that TT was going to join him. After a flurry of activity, @CavsDan wound up with a pretty massive shopping spree that saw him reportedly agree in principal with KLove on a five year, $110 million deal, and Canadian Dynamite on a five year, in excess of $80 million deal.
Here’s what Kevin had to say in his Player’s Tribune piece…
Kevin Love shares his free agency decision with The Players' Tribune. http://t.co/q4WB6zxNwe

And TT’s deal is reportedly also close to being finalized…
ESPN sources tell @WindhorstESPN & I that Cavs and Tristan Thompson are nearing agreement on deal that will pay the RFA in excess of $80 mil

No formal announcements have been made yet by the Cavaliers, but this is a huge day for this franchise and fanbase. We’ll keep you up to date on further developments on these deals, as well as progress with the remaining Cavs’ Free Agents (Iman, Delly, J.R. and, oh yeah that one other REALLY important guy who wears #23).

Kevin interview with the players tribune. Glad to hear him
Came home, went on Cavstheblog and saw the NOT SO breaking news and It really didnt come as a surpise that they signed but really surprised that it happen so quickly. Like those above, glad its all long term deals and on the first day of free agency just that we dont have to deal with the media insiders and rumors. I’m loving being a Cavs fan right now, we’ve got Kyrie, KLove, TT, Iman and basically Lebron for the next 4+ years, bearing health this is gonna be soooo fun. I’m really glad for the stability it brings being… Read more »
what a day. this couldn’t be going any better. I feel like Cols is our GM
Awesome tweet…
Shump Breaking News post is up…
Shumpert just agreed to return with a 4 year deal! How tall will his hair be in 2019?
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow…he owes Lebron some of that. Wonder what he’d be getting if he were still a Knick right now.
No way The Truth plays three more years…
Agree, but that will make the Clips much better, if they can keep Jordan. (may be a big if)
Very few in the media out here in LA believe that DJ will stay with Clips. Feeling strongly it will be Mavs or Lakers…
Wow… that beef with him and CPaul true???
DJ reportedly is extremely fed up with being the third wheel on the Clips, and doesn’t see that changing. He’d be the third wheel on the Lakers, but only for one more season. He’d be the second wheel on the Mavs…
Thanks for the scoop… I find it weird that Jordan cares so much about something so trivial as where the credit/attention is being place. But then again, he’s so stubborn and meat headed that he won’t shoot underhand free throws because it’s too “girly”. What a weak mentality.
Agree, but that’s apparently how he feels. Felt he was disrespected by CP3 several times last year…
HAHA… I can definitely see Paul being a jerk to him! Paul’s veneer of outstanding leader seems to be wearing off just a touch.
I don’t understand why he’d go to the Lakers….just stay with the Clips if he’s thinking of that. But maybe he doesn’t get along with other guys on that team, who knows…
Only reason I think he leaves is because that beef with CP3 is as serious as reported…
I suppose he and Kevin Love are a good fit together. Oh wait, never mind.
HAHAHA…. well done, MikeO! We should get a lot of mileage out the K Love speculation jokes! We deserve it!
Why wouldn’t he go to the Lakers? He’d be their premiere big man (at least until the next lottery pick). He wouldn’t care about taking shots from Kobe (for one more year), and could form a pretty good tandem with Russell…
I guess. I see the Lakers as a pretty terrible organization right now, and the Clips are title contenders. But he may see things differently.
Clips are not as strong a title contender without DJ though…
I agree… their title hopes will take a big hit… they had an average defense with Jordan… what will it be without him???
Plus, he could try and stick it to the Clips four times a year…
How would he do that? CP3 made him a career lol. He never had any offensive move aside from the alley-oop. Highly doubt he would be able to develop enough to be considered a threat on that side.
Pretty sure I said “try” but whatever man… If you don’t think Russell or Clarkson can throw a lob to the big man, then you’re sadly mistaken… And I’d like to see CP3 drive the lane on DJ…
Where is Cols?
One would think he is so high right now that Willy Nelson would need a stepladder to pass him the joint.
Yeah, I think that’s the problem… He was already barely able to type on the last thread when the KLove news broke…
True comedy…
The good news is they will be in the lottery again. Fly the Lakers flags high!
Now THIS I agree with…
Love Brandan Wright, great player.
I’m not sure I agree with this. Millsap is a nice player, but is he a $20/per player? At his age?
And of course, not to be outdone on the scale of outrageous tweets…
Seriously…LOFL
TT a bargain at 5/$80 when compared to this Millsap deal…
Maybe I’m crazy, but that seems like a steal.
Yep. Agreed. Tyson Chandler light if you ask me.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS FELLLLLAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Worth a read…
Is it mean, or does Love to have a very genuine smile? It rarely seems forced.
Is it *me* … stupid typos.
dude has a pristine set of chiclets.
Okay, this is officially getting out of hand in the desert…
If the Suns somehow are able to land LMA, along with Chandler and re-signing Knight, won’t they HAVE to clear some cap room? Possible swap of Haywood contract for Bledsoe?
Dare to dream…
Lot of home cooking this year…
Have a feeling Cavs will wind up just matching whatever deal Iman can scare up…
If the Cave think what he gets is too much, I’d be curious who they would go after to replace him.
I don’t think they will think that. I think they just don’t want to negotiate against themselves on another player (the first being TT). They had no choice with Tristan, given how he played and who represents him. They will let Iman go out and see what the market will bear, then match and resign him. Not concerned.
That’s what made the Pointer pick in the draft perplexing… has a similar game as Shumpert. They forsook shooters for an athletic specimen who plays great D, and little offensive skill.
Yeah, but Shump is ostensibly a starter (unless they swing a deal for someone like Bledsoe or DeRozan) next season. Pointer is a deep bench guy (if he makes the team) that can be groomed in the mold of Iman…
I agree that Shump’s the presumptive starter. To me, the draft pick seemed to be leverage against paying Shumpert something ridiculous. Which means to me, that there’s a limit to what the Cavs will pay, and that they could conceivably let him walk, granted the chances are minimal as you suggested.
I don’t think there’s any way they drafted Pointer to be a replacement for Shump. If Bron had no use for Wiggins as a rookie, he definitely won’t have use for Pointer. Not a chance they let Iman walk IMHO.
I’m not sure that Wiggins was of no use for LBJ… I think that was more about getting a top 5 PF in Love, which is worth the sacrifice of Wiggins because you can get comparatively athletic guys like Pointer late in the draft on a cheap, non-guaranteed contract.
I think the chances are minimal that they let Iman walk, but I can’t rule it out entirely either.
See… I told you they wouldn’t let Shump walk…
Yes, you certainly told me! HAHAHA!!! What was I thinking??? I’m just glad they were able to sign him to a seemingly reasonable deal!
My pleasure, U-Dog . . . CtBers . . . and Cavs fans everywhere! I’m just as excited as you are! Do me a favor… Reach into your pocket and help someone else out today! You’ll feel good.
Thank you, Dan Gilbert!
So, with DeMarre Carroll bolting to the Raps and Millsap potentially going to the Magic (not to mention Pero Antic going back to Turkey and Elton Brand likely purged for cap purposes) who exactly is going to be playing forward for the Hawks next season?
Hawks picked up Splitter. Splitter goes to the 5 while Horford moves to the forward spot.
Like I said… lol
Horford a natural 4. Been playing out of position for years.
Yeah, I guess it’s just my roundabout way of saying that I do not think the Hawks will be anywhere close to the record they achieved this past season…
Millsap is apparently returning …
They just resigned Millsap for 3/$59M…
Kind of thought they should have kept Carroll and let the Magic pay Millsap $20 million a year.
Couldn’t. Didn’t have demarre’s bird rights.
And, that’s the Truth!
Kinda figured Pierce would end up there. Seems like a great fit for both sides
I knew I liked SI for a reason…
And that’s news how?? What were we in the second half of the season when the three of them played together, 33 and 3?
Media showing how sharp they are once again.
Eh… rather see that than the opposite (e.g. “Cavs overpay for everyone” or something similar…)
Okay, I get that. Those articles about Gilbert’s payroll will start in 3….2…..1…..
You needed to start that countdown about three hours ago to correctly cue the mothership… lol
So the Lakers couldn’t impress LMA, but the Suns could? SMH
Wow, the Suns landing LMA and Chandler??? That would be ridiculous.
Love how stupid the national media is. Blatt fired. Love leaving. loLololololol.
The narrative around Blatt completely insufferable. I hope the Cavs go on a championship run for the rest of the decade just to stick it to all the idiots getting paid to smear Blatt.
Brandon Knight signs long term with Suns…that may help in making Bledsoe more available
Okay… just why?
Has Derrick Williams EVER been good in the NBA?
LOL
And sources say, Chandler Parsons was there afterwards to pick DJ up and whisk him away to a late lunch…
And therein lies the problem… they just don’t have a strong basketball plan (Grumpy ain’t no PJ or Riley)
HAHA.. how does tradition or off-court business & marketing help you execute plays in game on a basketball court?
Ludacris!
The only part of Love returning that surprises me is that he didn’t do a one-and-one contract to opt out and get the bigger payday next year.
It is somewhat surprising… on the other hand, considering Love’s bad experience in Minnesota with not getting a long term contract, maybe he truly values security and loyalty from the team to commit to him. He’ll still be young enough to receive another substantial contract after this one.
I kinda want to say the injury factor played into that, but I also think he was just sick of people talking about whether or not he would stay. Cleveland is the perfect fit for him, and he should have one more big contract after this.
Concerning fit… I think that’s the biggest factor. Kyrie’s a stud who’s gonna be around for awhile. TT is around to do the dirty work. I think Blatt has a little more clout with the players than last year, and should be able to put everyone in a better position to contribute.
Not to mention the best player in the world at his peak for another 2-3 years, conservatively speaking.
We should all be grateful to him if it turns down the volume on the nonsense. Love’s contract = a public service!
Even more, now other FAs know there’s a core in place… it’s gotta help recruiting. No more uncertainty for the next 4 years at least.
Yes, good point. Makes it easier to pitch players on the mini-midlevel exception and veteran minimums.
The PSA shouldn’t be minimized, however!!! HAHAHA!!!
Agree, but he’s been a pretty genuine guy his whole career. After the shit in Minny, he probably LOVED this season. The media made more out about the fit thing. He’s repeatedly said he wants to win and Cleveland gave him the best chance of that, with security. Market doesn’t matter anymore. This is such a fricken relief.
So as much as TT is going to be overpaid I’d rather have him for 5 years at 80 million than Milsap at 4 years for 80 million.
I would totally agree. TT has more size, a lot younger, better rebounder, and had the look of a developing offense at the end of the season. About the only thing Milsap does better is the jump shot, and TT doesn’t need that on this team.
I was most impressed with his offensive improvement. I don’t think his little baby hook got enough attention. He didn’t have that last season. Plus he has proven four times over that he’s a hard worker who will improve if their is improvement to be made.
Can’t agree more, JMay. That little baby hook is exactly what I was thinking of in terms of developing offense. Looked like he can go both hands with that shot and also looked like he developed some quick moves to make sure he could get the shot off. We also saw Delly improve on both sides of the ball. We saw K Love find his groove and develop defensively. I think Kyrie has developed his sense of court vision and playmaking for others. It’s been great to see the guys on an upward trend as the season goes along. The… Read more »
This is an excellent point!
One thing just struck me: The similarity in the first line of KLove’s first person essay and LBJ’s in Sports Illustrated. “I am coming home,” and “I am going back to Cleveland.” I like the symmetry even if it was unintended.
This is what Jim Buss will whisper hoarsely to himself as he rocks back and forth under his desk in the dark…
I actually think he’s going back…. ConnaugTRON, Mason Plumlee, Gerald Henderson were solid pickups. Still have Lillard… Only place I could see him going is the Spurs.
What’s interesting is that I’m not sure any team in the West has really improved… I think we may have a GSW vs. CLE final again!
OKC will have “improved” by getting KD back, though.
Definitely… for me, in the west it looks like GSW, MEM, OKC, and SAS.
Not to mention Kyle Singler… okay, I tried to keep a straight face…
HAHA… what? Don’t hate on the Duke players! He’s the reincarnation of Mike Dunleavy! HAHAHA!
AWESOME…
Must have that shirt.
Think I want that as well.
That’s an older shirt. I got it last year.
Didn’t realize, but I’m still 100% buying one…
Awesome. Except I don’t quite get why he doesn’t have eyes. Is there something I’m missing?
The eyes cost extra I guess…
Or maybe there’s just no “eyes” in “team?”
Love it.
So… Cavs/Spurs Finals 2016?
The Spurs will be will be really scary if that happens..
Scoop of the day!
I can’t tell if this is legit… but Aldridge retweeted it so…
And now, so did Woj…
Well, the Lakers probably didn’t focus on the basketball because it’s atrocious… HAHA!
Or they were like… “So, it’s easy… you get shots off of all the rebounds you get when Kobe misses…”
HAHA… that’s funny because what you just posted is exactly what I had in mind when I said “atrocious”!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!
Yeah, not surprised they focused on ‘non basketball’ attractions. He’ll love being a Spur.
Kevin Love 2: Power Forwards Kick Back
Why Tyson, why? He should have gone to a stable contender or at least a stable rebuilder.
Kevin Love’s decision proves two things: 1) He’s a man of his word, and 2) The media just doesn’t listen
You are exacty right EvilGenius. It was so nauseating reading the PD – particularly Fedor and Vardon – constantly trying to stir up controversy. Just this morning, you may have seen the PD ran an article that Love was meeting with The Lakers, and quoted a Chris Broussard report. The PD rarely doesn’t its own reporting and Broussard is rarely correct or as plugged in as he would like people to believe. Brian Winhourst is shamed by this too, since his league “antenna” as he called it had Love leaving Cleveland virtually all year.
Yeah, gotta agree. Fedor in particular was stridently leading the “Love might leave” charge. He was eating some crow on 92.3 The Fan just a little while ago though…

In Dr. Dre’s classic “Still Dre” he quipped “guess who’s back,” and then proceeded to lay down some of the finest lines man had saw since 2 Live Crew’s O.P.P. I really hope, in the poolside meeting with LeBron, Love said, “Guess who’s back,”” and then proclaimed all of the monster things he was going to accomplish this season. Also, watch this video and picture Kevin Love and LeBron James in the car instead of Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre. That version needs to happen. Anyways, that’s my interpretation of this news after listening to nine hours of Dr.Dre radio… Read more »
I hate to be THAT guy, but I believe it was Naughty By Nature that did O.P.P.
You sir are completely correct. Change that song to 2 Live Crews “Me So Horny.” I was only 1 when OPP came out and -1 for MSO. Whenever I hear those songs they both trigger my, “what was going on in the country to let those things make it big” reflex.
HAHA, totally agreed! The Ying Yang Twins “Whisper Song” can go in that category!
Classic Dr. Dre track right there… I remember reviewing that album for my school newspaper hahahaha!!!!
