Live Thread: Cavs vs. Clippers (#HomeSweetHome?)
2016-01-21Three of the five members of “The Hoopers” will be on the court at Quicken Loans Arena tonight, as “Dad” and “Mom” will square off against their “Son” (“Grandpa” and “Baby” will be otherwise occupied). One of the stranger advertising campaigns of recent memory that joined two Clippers (Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan) with one “Cavalier” youngster (Kevin Love), will undoubtedly rule the commercial breaks when they face off tonight at 8pm (EST) on TNT.
For Love and the Cavs themselves, this game represents the start of a four game homestand in the aftermath of Monday’s holiday massacre. Hopefully, some home cooking, along with the palate-cleansing domination of the Brooklyn Nets last night, will get the wine & gold family back on the right track. The Clippers present a more adult-sized challenge, having won 11 of their past 12 (including going 10-1 minus their All-Star PF, Blake Griffin). CP3 has been downright paternal, guiding his Clipper clan to the fourth best record in the West, while teaming up with his brother-from-another-mother, J.J. Reddick to form one of the best backcourts in the league lately. And, speaking of mothers… DeAndre Jordan has been able to drag down nine straight double doubles (even without a wig and a dress).
This is an important game for Cleveland to re-establish their home court dominance against a quality Western Conference team. If they can defend well, share the ball, and keep turnovers to a minimum, they should come out on the winning end of this “family affair.” And the Hooper’s “son” can show he’s grown enough that he doesn’t ever need to hear about the “Hawks and the Hornets” again. Prediction: Cavs help Kev stand up to his “parents,” 111-102.
Against my better judgement, I was listening to Simmons and Chris Ryan on Simmons’ all star ballot podcast. TONS of expected snark and smoking hot takes on the Cavs, Love, Lebron, and other teams and players. I had to stop listening. I can listen to his NBA podcasts when he has someone on with legit smarts who calls him out on his nonsense, but Ryan was basically like a giggling college bro…horrible stuff. Just fair warning. At least Lowe’s pod with Thorpe was good, even with the Love trade speculation.
Yeah Simmons likes to take shots at the Cavs, and Monday’s game was a perfect opportunity. I’ll avoid all the national pods for awhile.
ESPN and TNT are all showing tons of vines of how CP3 crossed over Delly. But they also failed to show how CP3 missed the shot afterwards.
The Delly Effect.
Delly tripped up CP3 by intentionally falling, making him miss a wide open look.
That was in retaliation after CP3 was hanging on Delly’s arm like a monkey bar. Paul knew it too
People did the same thing back when Lin crossed LBJ. What’s the point?
There was a weird play Lebron wound up on the floor which look like a cheap shot from Paul in the 4th. If anyone saw that let me know.
Yeah people were speculating he got hit in the nether regions.
#Cavs now 30-11 at the halfway mark this season. Last year the #Cavaliers were 21-20 after 41 games.
Kyrie Irving says Kyle Lowry deserves the All-Star starting spot. Says he personally doesn’t feel he belongs in the game this year. – Haynes
Classy. And also correct.
CLEVELAND — Before the Cavaliers hosted the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday, Cavs coach David Blatt unleashed a rant during his pregame media availability session, taking exception to coverage of his team since their 132-98 loss to the Golden State Warriors earlier this week. “I hear a lot of far-reaching conclusions and, personally, I don’t like it, but there’s nothing I can do about it because I’m not the one that’s saying or doing those things,” Blatt said. “I think this team has done pretty well dealing with the adversity that we’ve had. I think this team is in pretty… Read more »
Loved this! Blatt is amazing.
Pop does a great job of using his entire bench. He also rests players against crappy teams. Wish we could do this… That being said his core group has played a lot more minutes/years together.
Marnonovic on the Spurs is one ugly looking dude!
Boban is….. unique! He also has put up some amazing numbers, albeit mostly during scrub time; His per 36 averages are 25 pts and 14 rebounds.
David Blatt should have a shock collar on LeBron and Kyrie, and any time they go into ISO-overboard, he should shock them.
Since everyone decided Love was a terrible defensive player because of that one Vine in which he looked lost against GSW, I assume everyone will now conclude that Delly is a terrible defensive player because of the Vine where CP3 crosses him over so bad he falls.
Delly has been secretly bad the last month or so. I hope he gets it back together.
No way, you think Delly’s been bad! I’m utterly shocked!
Was this a box score Cols response?
Anyone can get crossed on. Few look like they have no clue what’s happening. It’s only one play, but damn, Kev played it like the ball was invisible. Like your pet dog when you fake throw his toy.
Notice who got the rebound on that missed shot? Delly.
Yes I did. He doesn’t always do the right thing, but he’s always trying.
“Another All-Star performance by @kevinlove…and he’s been doing that all year.” – Coach Blatt
– Maybe Blatt will get him on the All-Star team?
David Blatt says “we let the ball find Kevin more..he looked for the ball more and we looked for him” – McLeod
He was great. Irving needs more time.
Its funny – Love was 4-10 tonight, played solid team D, inhaled rebounds. He does that pretty much all of the time. Yet the way people respond to it seems to vary wildly depending on whether we win. When we win and he shoots 4-10, everyone thinks he is great. When we lose and he shoots 4-10, people think he is not “fitting in” and being passive. He is like a Cavs’ fan Rorscach test.
He does sometimes seem, er, disengaged or something. But, yeah, you’re right, he’s usually great. I was expecting a beast, as I think a lot of people were, and he’s not that. Skilled, subtle, smart… that’s more his way.
Agree. I was disappointed with him for much of last year, but then changed my perspective and really began to appreciate what a unique combination of things he does, how smart he is, etc. Tonight he was 3-6 AND had 16 rebounds against a very good team. That is a unique skillset.
I think he can be more efficient offensively still.
He got to the line a ton. 4-10 and no free throws is a lot different than 4-10 and 7-8 from the line.
Completely unsurprised to see this team respond after GSW loss. Such a tough team mentally. LAC had 3 days rest, we were on back to back, traveling late last night, and we just dominated them. Great team.
Yep. Cavs are tough. I’m ready to just write off that game. Nothing else in this team over the last year says the Warriros will do that again. Fluke.
Stop all the think pieces and trade columns. This team is still great.
Except the Warriors have only gotten better than last year.
So have the Cavs. 41-7 when Love LeBron and Irving play.
That stat goes to last year. This year the Dubs are much better. I think we could grab a game, but they’d likely destroy us. However, things could change by June.
I think its better than that. More like 46-6 or something.
Since the trade the Cavs are 44-7 in games that Lbj, Love and Kyrie play, but that includes playoffs.
No Blake makes this an asterisk game for me.
Do you have any asterisks next to these games as Kyrie is healing or was out. Good game and win.
Good game, but the asterisk is because Blake is their best player. If LeBron is out, then the cavs get an asterisk.
Clippers were 10-1 without Blake before tonight. 17-13 with him.
Maybe the Cavs can get him straight up for Kaun.
It would probably have to be Blake and CP3 for Kaun!
LOL. Kaun + Mozzy + Trade Exception.
Don’t see why now…better to have a reliable bench presence than a starter dragging you down…if I’m the Cavs, I make that deal…
Why *not*, that is…
Solid win. Hopefully a mental note is taken by all players to move the ball and hustle.
Cole shoots like a trebuchet
King with one of his most unselfish games all year. Only saw two dumb shots all game.
Good things can happen !!!
12 assists, no TOs.
Super game by the King. Commentators made a lot of the fouling, but really it was when LBJ came back into the game in the 4th that the game turned.
Stevenson stinks!!!!!!
