Live Thread: Hornets @ Cavs
2016-02-24Two nights after a loss to the Detroit Pistons that was as ugly as their win over the Oklahoma City Thunder was impressive, the Cleveland Cavaliers welcome the Charlotte Hornets t town. There’s a pretty good chance that LeBron and the gang come in highly motivated for this one. Besides wanting to get back on the right track after Monday night’s debacle, the Cavs will also be looking to avenge a February loss to the Hornets in Charlotte.
Look Cavaliers to be aggressive early on defense after an extremely sluggish effort against the Pistons on Monday. Slowing down Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lin will be essential for the Cavs as they have struggled to contain both in the past. Unfortunately, they will continue to be without the services of Iman Shumpert, who remains on the sidelines with a strained shoulder. Mo Williams is available after missing the last two games with Chondromalacia, but somehow I’m skeptical he’ll help much with defense.
Another thing to keep an eye on is the impact Courtney Lee and Channing Frye have for the Hornets and Cavaliers, respectively. Both men are obviously role players for their teams, but with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist out for the season, the Hornets will need much more from Lee than the Cavaliers will from Frye.
Be sure to turn in tonight at 7:00 on Fox Sports Ohio as the Cavaliers try to get back to their winning ways, and be sure to share your thoughts here at Cavs: The Blog!
Also kemba Walker has really developed his game.I used to hate his game thinking he was too much of a scorer without a 3 point shot. Man hes corrected both those. True point guard. Chris Paul lite (maybe ultralight). Not that good in the pick in roll but good passer, defender and shooter.
Something I’ve noticed is that on a lot Irvings 1 man fast breaks that they are one man. JR Smith, Delly, Shump or JR really should be sprinting and spotting up in the corner (I mean LBJ would be nice too but I just dont see that happening). Too many times its 1 vs 3 and no one in spotting up
I’m maybe warming up to the idea of Kevin Martin. I’d prefer Joe Johnson, but that seems unlikely. I think his 3-Pt % would be better with us. I don’t know how much PT he’d get here, but I guess it wouldn’t hurt to have more shooting.
Did anybody just see that blatant moving screen by Draymond. Cost the heat the game.
Everyone does it including the Cavs….
What I saw however was Whiteside not stepping up on a PnR with his man, and letting the best shooter in the history of the NBA shoot an open 3 with the game on the line.
Lol even the announcer on ESPN said ” did you see that moving screen by Green, worse than Garnett”. Get that attention out there and put it in the refs minds.
Great game tonight by the wine and gold. Loved the production from Frye.

The only thing Varejao has gotten right is setting screens for Curry.

Varejao forgot to call out the screen or Curry didn’t hear it. Whiteside almost broke him in half.

Varejao’s propensity to foul all the time also hurts GSW offense quite a bit

Varejao has been even worse than I thought he’d be. And it’s in ways that “learning the system” won’t help.

I watched him in CLE
Watching the Warriors playing the Heat right now and it sure looks Andy is, let me put it gently, TOAST. True, he has been there a couple of days, but he looks so slow and un-intelligent, which stands out on such an intelligent team like the Warriors.
That’s funny since Andy was one of the smarter players on the Cavs. Either it’s a function of moving to a new team, or the Cavs collectively can’t hold a candle to the Warriors in basketball intelligence, despite LeBron’s huge hoops IQ.
WE ALL MISS THE “EVIL ONE “—HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH HIM AND FAMILY !!!
Absolutely. He brought a lot to the CtB. Hope all is well.

Frye doing his job tonight.
Yep been good tonight and getting playing time. Like the one play where he put it on the deck and got fouled going to the hoop. His shot has been on too.
Might not convince the Andy super-fans though
Well, we are trying to win a championship sometime soon. Even with the salary shedding and tax savings, numbers say Frye was better, and this game he certainly looks great.
You must have missed the outrage when Frye went 1-3 in 9 minutes last game.
Well I think the wound was still fresh for a lot of people, so I chose to ignore it. I will not lie, I am still scared of him possibly getting time and playing well against us in the finals. However, price of the trade. I think Frye improves us more than Andy improves GS. I would be concerned about him giving the warriors our plays, but as we are, most of the time it is fairly clear what we are running so I am not to worried about that. Additionally, we could still institute some new stuff by playoff… Read more »
Several off ball cuts to the buckets that have led to layups or dunks tonight by LBJ and just now by moz. I love it. That is what I want to see all the time. Move to the bucket even if you do not have the ball. Move your butt to open a passing lane.
Delly, so good.

6 more this month. 8 more total.
Cavs left maybe 10-15 points with those shots that spun out in the 3rd.
