It was a sad day yesterday in the Miami Valley as Dayton Flyers Center Steve McElvene passed away. Mark and I discussed the Cavs play so far in the playoffs and Mark doubled down on his prediction that the Cavs would be the last team standing.
This is a really good blog, and I love seeing these weekly segments pop up. I’m from Dayton, and for anyone who doesn’t know, it’s one of the best college basketball cities in America. They regularly sell 8000+ tickets for crappy 16 vs 16 matchups in the First 4. It’s really all the city has to rally around, and it’s been passed down for generations because older people remember when UD was a powerhouse program in the 60s. Losing McElvene is like losing a family member for the city of Dayton. My eyes still sting when I think about it.… Read more »
Thanks for the kind words, MJ 45. What a tragedy, Steve McEleven’s passing…Sounds like he was a great kid with a very promising future, on and off the basketball court.
That’s a great comment too: “this stuff is really supposed to be fun.” It’s not life and death. Let’s enjoy it!
Hey guys, if anyone’s interested Cleveland’s got a new World Champion. In MMA to be precise. Stipe Miocic is the new UFC Heavyweight Champion
Hope he can hold on to the belt long. Go Cleveland. Please let the Cavs follow the step!

Well done, but man, that’s a lot of emotion to digest in 90 minutes.
Feels like in my lifetime, Cleveland had 2 teams that were the best teams in the league in the regular season. The 95 Indians and 09 Cavs.
The ’95 Indians definitely. They had the highest winning percentage in the majors in four decades (since the ’54 Indians, who also lost the World Series). They won 10 more games than the Braves.
I might add the ’86 and ’87 Browns to your list. They were as good as any team in the league, with peak Kosar (before his arm injury in ’88).
Yeah I know those Browns teams really hurt. I was too young to remember.
Especially that 1986 team… Nobody was beating them if Elway hadn’t pulled off his miracle…
The Kardiac Kids of 1980 probably belong more in the class of the Miracle of Richfield Cavs and the 97 Indians…
“C’mon Cavs, gotta make it happen” — still one of my favorite songs.
Contrast the heartbreak of the Fumble with the nausea of watching the Indians blow a lead in the bottom of the ninth to the Marlins. Hearing the names Mesa, Counsel, and Renteria still make me queasy.
For me, the Byner fumble was the most painful moment. Bernie with his arm around Byner, I think I was crying back then. Almost crying now. Oops, not almost. I’m happy to see Ernest Byner on this show. It seemed like he was too ashamed to show up on any show in the past. He shouldn’t be. He played great. It was just one of those things.
UNFORTUNATELY I PROBABLY WON’T SLEEP TONIGHT REPLAYING ALL THOSE GAMES/ MOMENTS OF BEING A DIE HARDED CLEVELAND ” BELIEVELAND ” FAN ——-GO CAVS IT ENDS THIS YEAR !!

HEY IT’S SAT NIGHT U ALL OUT PARTYING OR ALREADY SLEEPING—WOW JUST LISTENING TO BYNER AND MARTY TALK —IF THAT DOESN’T TOUCH A NERVE —YOU ARE DEAD —-HOPE EVERY CAV PLAYER IS WATCHING THIS ——MAN TALK ABOUT MOTIVATING !!
Yeah, I had the same thought about the Cavs watching it. It might help, dare I say, galvanize them in a tough spot.
ARE WE ALL WATCHING ” BELIEVELAND “——THIS IS THE YEAR WE END THE FUTILITY !!—-” ALL IN THE LAND “
PRAYERS FOR STEVE MCELVENE AND FAMILY !!
