Preseason Live Thread: Cavs @ Knicks (Mark II)
2020-12-18One last preseason tuneup. Excited to see Cedi, Javale, and Sexton get some run, and one more game in MSG.
#Cavs going to try their small-ball starting lineup tonight:
Darius Garland, Collin Sexton, Isaac Okoro, Cedi Osman and JaVale McGee.
Andre Drummond will not play. No injury there.

Sexton / garland Cannot start/ play that much together—- starters — Garland/ Ice/ Jedi / Love / Dre ———— was on the Thon “ hype “ train 1st game / not sure anymore—- being exposed of why he hasn’t stayed on any team I would almost prefer keeping “ Love Lite “ he brings more all around basketball skills to the table
Sort of prefer Bolden to Thon. Bit stouter. Shown some nice rim protection. Dirty work guy.
Thon’s outplayed Bolden IMO… advanced stats say Maker’s a far superior passer and rebounder, and they both can’t really finish. But I agree, Bolden is definitely a bigger dude. Also Bolden’s played with Canton for a year I think.
The first game Maker played twice as many minutes and outplayed Bolden. Bolden has better better in the other three. Of course Maker has more of a track record as far as actual time in the nba. But that track record isn’t very good. Bolden has shown nice rim protection with multiple blocks in multiple games in preaseason, and I think he might be a better finisher, if just due to his size. Certainly outshot Maker in 3/4 games in preseason. I want rim protection for once. Maker shoots 43% for his career from the floor. That was similar in… Read more »
I also don’t have confidence in maker shooting 3s.
Two quite interesting things (IMO) from last night: 1. JB’s post-game comments regarding the starting lineup. He has continually said that “impact on winning” was going to be the barometer for playing time. Now he’s said that the best five “as a team” will play, and not based on individual performances. I think he’s laying the ground work for benching Garland, Sexton, or both. I think there’s a real chance they start Cedi at the 2, and Okoro at the 3…. if I were to guess. 2.Chris Fedor just dropped a bomb (IMO) in his last article, saying that Sexton… Read more »
I still remain unconvinced that a team can play two 6’1″ guys at the same time in the NBA and not get boatraced more often than not. At least unless one of them is a marginal MVP candidate.
it’s not even about their height… it’s that they are just plain bad at basketball, albeit for different reasons.
And now Windler and Exum are healthy, Okoro’s looking great, Cedi’s looking better…. no way if I’m Love or Drummond do I want to play with the kids instead of actually competitive players.
welp, pretty much nothing to glean from this game… as JB said, weren’t competitive, weren’t unselfish.
stevens just give it up… Dotson was there.
Very cool tribute to Fred McLeod…. RIP
Dotson found the range finally.
Dean Wade, rough start, but kept at it… good stuff.
Matthews!!!! hustle! great ball movement.
John Michael just called Dean Wade “Dwyane Wade”. It was just a matter of time till one of them did that.
Cavs are not defending the corner 3 at all.
BALL MOVEMENT!!! Randolph 3!
goodness Quickley has been devastatingly good the past two games… just killing the Cavs.
40% of ref challenges were successful last season?
I think that is pretty notable supporting their value.
DOTSON TO WADE!!! great cut and finish Wade!
If Cedi does not start, then all this talk about competition is obviously BS.
If Gilbert wants Okoro to start, then bench Garland.
Yes!
Wade found the range finally.
great onball defense Wade!!!
nice passing, Okoro’s now struggling with the jumper.
bad defense Cedi and Okoro…. getting sucked in and leaving the corner open.
GIVE AND GO OKORO BOLDEN!!!
my goodness, we cannot inbound the ball.
