Wow. That’s a development. I’m a bit baffled by this move, but maybe it’s a chance to see Dean he can give them anything before they cut bait. Maybe they need Cedi to back up the point . Maybe they’re sandbagging Love to try to get a win versus the Rockets tomorrow. Who knows? Delly, Love, Nance, Prince, Drummond all out. Maybe one will be back tomorrow. Until then, go Wade!

To me, best part of the game-winning play was Sexton’s assist. I was 150% sure he was going to hero-ball it on the last play. Such a positive sign that he’s truly evolved as a player that he recognized the attention he was drawing, Stevens’ cut, and that everyone on the Hawks was also pretty sure he was going to take the shot, too.
Great to see everyone celebrating together on the sidelines afterwards, a reminder that the camaraderie and cohesiveness of the early season is still there, bubbling beneath the surface.

just watched the highlights, this looks like a really fun game. I could hear that final broadcast call for a while – ’10 seconds to go – it’s Sexton – Sexton, chased by Hill — off to Stevens — oh HO-OH, MY! — Lamar Stevens, the rookie out of Penn State! — no timeouts left for the Hawks — Trae Young — and it’s over!’ (as Kevin Love emerges from the sideline with his arms up a la June 2016)
Our starting backcourt going for 11 TOs was not great. ATL is injury ravaged. Trae is deservedly NOT an all-star.
But we competed. Stevens is an NBA player in every way except for shooting. That was a confident play in that situation. So sick of jumpers at the buzzer. Go to the hole!
Windler got his stroke going. JB figured out Cedi cannot play the 4.

Agreed — also good thing Hawks had to call TO with 19 seconds and put in Gallinari, although even if he had challenged the dunk you get the feeling that Stevens just would have jammed it over him anyway. This was a little bit like that road win over Brooklyn last year when Alec Burks improvised for a game-winning dunk. Cavs getting the W this time more with the young core (Okoro looked really good in the highlights, obviously Windler also), 43 minutes by Garland, etc. Hope Stevens can develop further in Cleveland.

love it, Stevens has been a really nice positive this year!!!!
I’ve a slight bias towards Penn Staters, but Stevens was a natural leader in college. I didn’t think his game would translate to the NBA. I saw a Nwaba comparison in an earlier post, but he is more the opposite of Nwaba: he is not as good an on-ball defender but can work within the scheme, and he is isn’t a stand-still shooter but will take shots off the dribble and welcome contact. The fact they are using him this much isn’t a positive, but I am glad he is finding a place in the league.
His defense is really good, 71st percentile in defensive EPM… above average block rate, which speaks to your observation about off ball defense and above average rebounder.. And on offense, at least he doesn’t turn it over.
He’s not an NBA player yet, but he’s pretty close…. if he ever figures it out on offense, he’ll definitely stick around 4 or 5 years at least.
It’s also a small sample size. This is definitely a game he can build on. One thing is certain–he won’t pick up bad habits on a bad team.
What a fun ending! Glad I tuned in tonight.

Phils was a guard/wing. Stevens is a bigger dude. He’s a 3/4. More of a 4. Both have that toughness/junkyard dog thing. I get it.
I’d note that all the bench guys were positives on +/- tonight. 3/4 +10 or better.

even if we would have lost I still would be happy (now I’m thrilled!). Cavs simply played a much getter game of basketball… still lots of warts and growing pains but you at least saw some complete effort by 1-9 in the rotation
